UX 2.5 OTA Update

While I was charging today at EA, I sat in the back trying to do some work. Now I understand what many here said about the overbearing bass in the rear seats. It's terrible, drowning everything else, overly amplified to the point of distortion. And I keep my bass setting at -3. Good thing I don't have rear passengers, beside the occasional bed bugs.
So odd the variations we are seeing here. I have not had that experience, I think it sounds great. Hopefully they iron this out soon. I think the best first step would be to make a more comprehensive graphic equalizer so we can control it better. So many different musical tastes, some of which don’t require heavy bass. I also hope such a graphic equalizer is specific to source. For example, I don’t need heavy bass when I’m listening to AM talk radio.

I just noticed audio unpauses when you roll the volume up. Has this always been a feature?

Just adding to my forum traffic in other places that is all 🫡

Next time I'll drive down to SD I'll ping you, maybe we can meet and exchange opinions. I would be amazed if you would enjoy the way it sounds in my rear seats. When it plays a track that is heavier on bass, I can barely make out the music from the boom. 😢😢😢

For the people now complaining about “too much bass” where are your EQ levels set?

As soon as I got the update, I set bass and treble to 0, and then backed the mids to -3 or -4.

If you still have your EQ pumping up the bass because the old system was flat, you may want to consider readjusting. I find the bass is plenty at 0 now.

In Luci the base is so extreme that it sounds like the front passenger speaker is blown but definitely shouldn’t be. Only started since the update.

We need to have a San Diego get together and listen to each other’s systems… See if there’s any differences

Turn the bass down. I have mine at 0 now too. Also play with the balance setting. I moved it a little towards the back of the car, which made everything sound better.

Yeah I just don’t get it. I can put my bass all the way to the right and it doesn’t sound as bad as people are describing on here. No track from any source sounds like any speakers are blown. Wild there is such a wide range of experiences. A get together is a great idea. Lucids, Lattes and Listening 😎

My bass is excellent at zero. However after testing multiple Atmos tracks there is absolutely something wrong with how they are handling the center channel. My friend mixed this track in Atmos which is a full double bass and he set up the mics specifically to feature the center channel to sound like you’re right in front of the bass getting the entire frequency range the instrument can do, while using all the other channels for room/reverb. Prior to this update it sounded fantastic, now there is almost no bottom end, supporting my point that they messed up the crossover for the center channel. https://tidal.com/track/307330079?u

It almost sounds to me like what is happening is a band pass filter is being applie to the center channel instead of a high pass filter. A high pass filters allow frequencies above a certain limit to pass through, so they could split out the low frequencies to the footwell woofers, but a band pass filter creates a bell curve cutting off highs and lows to favor mids with a sharp peak in the 2-5khz range usually. What makes me think this is how unbearable certain tracks sound in Atmos now with featured center channel vocals, such as REMs Try Not To Breath. Michael Stipes voice is very ill suited to enhancing those mid range frequencies. https://tidal.com/track/131051354?u

I hope the team working on it can fix it. INXS Mediate now also sounds so harsh in the center channel I have to turn it off. So the bass is great now for me, non-Atmos tracks are mostly great (although I do notice some phase cancellation moving my head closer to the center of the car), but the center channel for Dolby Atmos tracks is not right.

Excellent break down as per usual Bunny!!

It's at -3, so it sound ok in the front. In the rear, even at -Max, it's still overbearing.

Yes to all of this!
While the regular Tidal tracks sound better, 2.5 adversely effected Atmos tracks badly

Hi, everyone.

I have a HUGE issue because I have the Base NON Pro system and the Bass has been pumped up wayyyyy to much for it to handle. I have bass on the absolute Negative Minimum, the lowest setting and i am getting huge distortion to the point, I would not be surprised if the speakers blow out. The only way I can listen to certain songs is to have the volume just above ambient noise so you can barely hear it... Not cool on my $135k car lol. They just need to dial the bass back to where it was prior to the update as even that was already too much.
Thank you!

Hey, we got a new member in the "too-much-bass" club :)

How is your car $135,000 without surreal sound pro? Just wondering.

How funny would it be if Lucid came back and said they actually never changed anything and we were all just experiencing a placebo effect? Apparently 100 different placebo effects 🤣

I agree with this assessment . Tracks that used to sparkle with exquisite vocal clarity, like Rush's Red Barchetta in Atmos, now sound muddled and dull. I find that non-Atmos rock tracks also have muddled treble and midrange. I hope the team will fix it soon.

I wrote this to one of the Lucid reps. Not sure it will matter much. Just my two cents.

Hi, I was wondering if you can pass this along to the powers that be. I am completely happy with the Surreal Sound Pro. I bought my Lucid a year ago. I have dialed the system in perfectly for my taste. I only stream Vinyl wav rips (direct from my tube preamp) thru a thumb drive. The system has the right amount of bass for me and the correct mids. Therefore I have avoided getting the recent UX2.5 update. I don't need thump for hip hop or to shake my car with bass response. I already cut the bass with my EQ. I prefer a natural bass . Is there a way I can skip this update and continue to enjoy the system the way it is and what i am used too? Please let me know. Thanks. David

Late to the party with the sound upgrade as I just got the TSC done today...

There is a LOT more bass - did not know the car was capable of that. I turned down the bass slider quite a bit. Most importantly they've evened out the bass response down to lower frequencies than before. I don't think higher frequencies sound muddled. But it's clearly no longer a "studio monitor" type system.

I'd guess in a future update they'll allow us to turn the bass down more, to match more or less what we had before. The extension down to lower frequencies is really welcome, and would improve the sound even at lower bass volumes. Overall, glad to have the update.
