It depends on the track. Overall I think it’s awesome, no doubt the bass is fuller and extends lower, in fact all the audio “jumps out” from the speakers more. A great example is this Leonard Cohen track, You Want It Darker, it was mixed to hype the bottom end of his voice and before you’d lose that with the bass, but now the low end is clear and assertive for both his voice and the bass. https://tidal.com/track/66024824?u
The problems I’m hearing are more in the mid 3-5khx range of some tracks, like I love this Star Wars metal cover band Galactic Empire, but because of right where the guitar is in the spectrum, there’s some definite harshness in that range that makes me want to turn it off. https://tidal.com/track/69549377?u
Over all I think the update is a big improvement, can’t complain about bass anymore our loudness and I do think the sound field overall is more forward, but I think they need to reassess what this fix is doing to the center channel for Atmos tracks as it’s not correct, and the mid range needs a little adjustment for stereo tracks.
Definitely enjoying listening to anything non-Atmos and some Atmos still sounds good. A few more software modifications and we will all reach audio nirvana.
