UX 2.5 OTA Update

I tried skimming this thread but i know most people are talking about the sound changes. My biggest issue is my car will no longer wake from app any more. It used to take 30-60 seconds buy after 2.4.x it would wake much faster - maybe 10-15 seconds? I loved it as I often used it to open the doors and trunks for my kids.

With 2.5.0 my app NEVER wakes up the car, even after retrying and waiting 5+ minutes. I’ve tried logo reset and restarting my phone and app. Anyone else have similar issues?
The update completely broke mine. My mobile key had always worked 80% of the time, but after one update it was near perfect.
This 2.5 rendered it useless. I tried the fix to re-add the mobile key and it helped a bit. It now works as in opens the doors 50% of the time. But always requires me to enter a PIN.

I think this is the most important statement here. I know we have a lot of owners here in the San Diego area. Is there anyone amongst us who is dissatisfied with the new sound? If so, let's get together and listen to each other's cars. See if perhaps there is something wrong with yours (mine sounds great). This is going to be the only way to decide whether it is in the ear of the beholder or an actual issue.
I finally got to hear the new sound this morning. It is wildly different than what it was before the update. I'm not an audiophile be any means, but I like the old sound better. I had the general volume louder, but no matter how loud I got it before, the sound was very smooth. I don't have the correct audio vocabulary to describe the new sound, but it sounds harsh when you turn it up now. I was able to turn the other sounds down, like turn signals, which had gotten very loud. I'll second your suggestion.

Save here.

I think it is a problem on their end. Restarting the phone, resetting the car, these kind of things won’t help. This happened once before and they were able to solve it fairly quickly. Frustrating, I know.
I’m now on 2.5.0 and my app wake up works just as well as on the prior version.

Hm, that's a good data point. Thank you very much for your experience. I need to contact Lucid about a recurring door seal issue anyway, so I'll ask about the app wake-up feature in case they need to do some hard reboot other than logo reset.

I had an opportunity to to listen to the updated audio with non Atmos tracks, It definitely is very BOOMY and requires that the bass be turned all the way down and the soundstage be moved more to the rear as others have posted. I expect that Lucid is listening (ironic) to customer feedback and will update the turning and hopefully give us more than an 3 band equalizer. I presume that they are using DAP (Dolby Audio Processing) seeing as it supports Atmos. They really should get some of their sound engineers in to evaluation AQ tuning.

Generally speaking, I agree. As far as I can tell, That’s not working right now. I think the problem is unrelated to the software version of the car and a function of a problem with their servers.

Please listen to “Whip It” in Atmos. To me it’s simply awful and illustrates the harshness of the front speaker. It is unlistenable because it’s literally piercing and such a huge disappointment compared to pre 2.5. Many of us have had the exact same observation, so it seems like a systemic issue. At anything other than low volume it’s unacceptable. Fleetwood Mac Atmos illustrated the same deficit. If the sound stage remains as is, so be it , but there will be many many disappointed individuals .
I just listened to "Whip it" by Devo Atmos Tidal. HORRIBLE!!! As soon as the vocals came on I lasted about 10 seconds. Voice track way way too high and hot. Like being yelled at through a megaphone. It's not a question of volume as the general music level was dramatically lower than the vocals. I listened to the track from time to time prior to 2.5 and it was a solid track that showed off the abilities of the sound system. Something is very wrong here. A bug for sure.

Maybe there was a component change during production and older components didnt take the update properly. Either that or just something wrong in the update for certain cars in general. I have a 2023 Touring manufactured 11/22 delivery 12/22.

It's seems to work quite well on my wife's iPhone. I wonder if it's an Android thing

That is how I feel , but others have a different opinion. Like you I find the vocals ( on this particular track ) absolutely harsh , like yelling through a megaphone. There is too much emphasis on that center speaker, it overwhelms everything else, and not in a good way .Prior to 2.5, it was one of my favorite tracks. I have a 2022 GT, delivery 9/22. I have a few other tracks that I think have the same issue, which I will get around to sharing , hopefully tonight. I certainly don’t want to be critical of others who enjoy the new update; I am hoping small modifications can be made, to satisfy everyone’s taste. If not, that’s OK too.

Weird, it works okay on my Sapphire.
On the GT-P it takes 10 to 25 minutes, no exaggeration, numerous attempts.

Do you use the same phone for both? Android or IOS?

For those unworthy infidels that don't like the new audiophile-grade sound, try this:

This - obviously - reduces the boomy bass. Some like the boom, I don't, so your setup might vary, just like your mileage. However, this

View attachment 24627

I think it's more important, because it does 2 things:
  1. It calms down the the front woofer, so you're hear less boom, and the same time makes the rear subwoofers more present, so you start to "feel" the bass.
  2. It dilutes the front-center channel, that spews out hot-mids, so you get less gramophone in your $100k+ car of the future.
  3. If you think the new volume steps are too abrupt, this will help with that too: it will take more scrolling to increase the volume.
So as long as you're ok with a more "spatial" sound (the stage is not on the windshield anymore), this might work. Disclaimer: I'm listening to crap music, on crap BT connection, and my left ear is slightly bigger than the right. I also don't have rear passengers.

I'm fine with this setup. I still think the pre update sound was better, but I can live with it.

Good luck.
Excellent suggestion! I would never have thought to try this. Mine was previously set to dead center of the car. This sounds a lot better on XM and Spotify. It doesn't work for Tidal Atmos tracks, since that takes overrides the car's balance settings.

Nice idea, but it won’t work with Atmos; which is really my only complaint with the sound. I am only part infidel😜😉

Or, if there are specific tracks or specific sources that sound fine, while others are problematic, perhaps we can compile a list here, and send those off to Lucid so they can confirm and do further testing and tuning?

In addition to Whip It, the following tracks in Atmos sound very off to me, especially at mid and high volumes. Specifically, the vocals have that very harsh tone many of us have been alluding to. There are others, but in my opinion, these four songs are good examples(At least to me). I think it’s important to listen to these with the volume at least 40 to 50% up, because the higher the volume the worse it sounds.

1) Go Your Own Way, Fleetwood Mac
2) Try not to breathe , R.E.M.
3) Monday Morning, Fleetwood Mac
4) Shape of You, Ed Sheeran.

Sounds like I’m in the minority, but I’m really enjoying the sound update. Before the update I felt the Atmos tracks were only subtly different than non-Atmos in making use of the upper and rear speakers. Now I’m picking up much more differentiation among center, upper, and rear. Overall it is much more of a surround sound experience to my ear than it was before the update. I’d be curious to know how the audio engineers (eg @Bunnylebowski ) feel about it. I’m certainly no sound expert, but it’s a positive to my ear.
I still need the latest tape fix done but to my ears it’s louder than before, it sounds like when you put a limiter on a track where you make the quieter sounds louder, maybe that’s what they did is implemented a limiter into the DSP?

I think you’re on to something there, I’ll check it out tomorrow but I suspect Talking Heads Psycho Killler is also going to sound harsher with this update as it was in your face thumping before the OTA already. It’s sounding more to me like they implemented some type of post-amplification limiter or normalization algorithm to increase the volume of quieter sounds when you have the volume lower. The issue with Dolby Atmos (this is a music industry/engineering problem not a Lucid problem) is that until very recently it was challenging to verify loudness matching between Atmos and stereo masters. My friend who’s an audio engineer and Atmos mixer was part of the software development team for this software called Immersive Master Pro they debuted at the AES convention last month that should make this problem disappear, as you’ll notice currently some Atmos mixes are far quieter and inferior to others. I think whatever Lucid has implemented in their DSP is helping those lower volume mastered Atmos tracks at the expense of the appropriate volume mastered ones. Solutions to audio issues are hard to implement in any format, so I think it’s cool Lucid has made it a priority as well, but I’m not surprised if it’s revealing some new issues here and there.
