UX 2.5 OTA Update

Could some of the folks overtly displeased with the audio capture sound snippets? I am not sure if that will be sufficient to capture and still be reproducible on a cell phone.

Great idea, but I don’t think it will capture the essence of the “problem”.

Sounds like I’m in the minority, but I’m really enjoying the sound update. Before the update I felt the Atmos tracks were only subtly different than non-Atmos in making use of the upper and rear speakers. Now I’m picking up much more differentiation among center, upper, and rear. Overall it is much more of a surround sound experience to my ear than it was before the update. I’d be curious to know how the audio engineers (eg @Bunnylebowski ) feel about it. I’m certainly no sound expert, but it’s a positive to my ear.

I just tried taking a video and it really doesn’t come through. If any of you like ska, play the song Automatic by Less Than Jake. When the heavy guitar comes in around 1:05, I can’t hear anything else except it. It wasn’t like that before and it’s not like that on any other system. Yes it’s a loud distorted guitar but this update just emphasizes it to a crazy degree.

Do keep in mind, just because you have 2.5 and you have had the tape service done, this does not mean you have the "new" sound.

My car had the tape service done yesterday, for instance. My car still does not have the improved audio. I can tell, because it sounds exactly like it did before I did the tape service.

I have heard the new sound on another Lucid, and it sounded good to me. Certainly not what anyone would call "unlistenable."

All sorts of things could be going on behind the scenes here. It's completely possible some of you have had corruption in the downloading of the new sound feature, leading to the package not performing properly.

Whatever the case may be, remember to report everything to customer care. And don't assume everyone else is hearing what you are hearing. I guarantee most of us aren't.

Please listen to “Whip It” in Atmos. To me it’s simply awful and illustrates the harshness of the front speaker. It is unlistenable because it’s literally piercing and such a huge disappointment compared to pre 2.5. Many of us have had the exact same observation, so it seems like a systemic issue. At anything other than low volume it’s unacceptable. Fleetwood Mac Atmos illustrated the same deficit. If the sound stage remains as is, so be it , but there will be many many disappointed individuals .

The people that are unhappy, report pretty much the same pattern: boomy / bloated bass, hot mids from the center channel, echoey.

Got it. But you do see that not everyone is reporting that, right? Which means this isn't happening to everyone.

It's got to be some sort of bug on certain cars, is what I'm suggesting. There's no way our ears are that different.

I totally believe these folks hate the way it sounds. I find it hard to believe their cars sound the way Lucid intended.

Or, if there are specific tracks or specific sources that sound fine, while others are problematic, perhaps we can compile a list here, and send those off to Lucid so they can confirm and do further testing and tuning?

I think it depends on what songs one listens to. Instrumentals and some vocals on Atmos sound fine, but others, depending on how it’s mixed , have that harshness we have been alluding to. My observation is that it is vastly vastly inferior now. I still have the option of course to listen to many other things that don’t sound bad, so that is what I intend to do. The minute I played certain tracks for my wife, she also noted how degraded it was. Maybe we will be lucky and it will be a car specific issue, but I doubt it.

That is a great idea. I have sent them some of my complaints. I think they can mess with it so that the increased bass will satisfy people and the mids and highs can be re-engineered ( if that is the correct term ).

Let's get a list going, then, and send it off to Lucid. Sounds like Devo's Whip It is one candidate.

I'm happy to drill through my whole catalog once my car actually does the audio update for me. Hoping this weekend.

There's no reason we should live with it sounding that bad, if it truly does sound that bad. And especially if it's only happening to some cars, they will need it reported.

Thanks for getting this going. I will get a more comprehensive list of songs tomorrow, that I think sound weird. Again, it’s understandable that this is subjective, so there will be many opinions. That’s why I love this forum; always helpful.😊😊😊

I can honestly say it’s everything I listen to that sounds bad now. There aren’t just specific songs. Some are egregiously bad, yes. But overall everything has that harshness to it now, and this is non-Atmos I’m talking about

I haven’t noticed that as much, but I will pay closer attention .

So for those that don’t like the audio update, complaints seem largely isolated to Atmos tracks. I’ll have to listen more to the Atmos tracks I’ve got. I will say, listening to SXM and non-Atmos audio, the sound is improved to my ears.

What source are you using? Carplay? Spotify?

Maybe more of us can try to replicate what you are doing exactly.

My SC performed the TSC for the speakers today. Bass is now smooth and deep. Very happy with the update! Definitely no need for a separate sub for me anymore.

Edit: I use YouTube Music over CarPlay.

With so many different tastes, I think a more comprehensive equalizer would help. I’d also like the equalizer to be tied to sources. My talk radio EQ settings would be quite different than music.

Here’s an example from BMW:
