Software issues versus daily driving

Neither have I. The problem, though, is that one does see the problem when using the mobile key (as Alex so well described) . . . and using the key fob instead of the mobile key blocks the facial recognition program from changing driver profiles to that of whomever gets behind the wheel. (The service tech told me that carrying both the phone and the key fob confuses the car, thus causing some features to become inaccessible. However, I have to carry the phone for other reasons so don't have the option of just carrying the key fob.)

So you have a choice:

1. carry the key fob to be sure you can get into the car, but lose other functionality that is provided only when using the mobile key, or

2. leave the key fob behind in order to retain other functionality, but carry the key card with you in case the mobile key won't open the car (which it often won't).

I will use DreamDrive very seldom and can wait a bit longer for those features to start arriving. But I need to get into the car every time I drive it. At this point I won't leave home without the key card, key fob, and mobile key (which I carry for other reasons) all on my person, as I don't have much confidence in any one thing giving me the access to the car that it is supposed to.
Honestly, nobody should have to think about these scenarios every time you decide to take the car out. It's really nuts.

Let me ask you this, what functionality is lost just using the safer key fob approach?

The key fob works just fine. I use the key fob now and carry the valet card in my wallet. I can either unlock the car from 50+ feet away by double-clicking the key fob or just walk to it and it unlocks when it senses the key fob. I did set up a profile to use with the IPhone so I am not sure which device the car detects first.

Why can't you just unlink your mobile key for now. Doesn't the app still work to unlock even if it isn't setup as a mobile key?

I might try that. However, owners shouldn't be having to experiment with workarounds for something as basic as unlocking car doors several months after the car hit the market.

The only one I'm sure about is the facial recognition, as I don't use a lot of the software features regularly. However, the service tech who delivered the car back to me told me that having the key fob and the mobile key in proximity to the car at the same time would confuse the car and cause several things not to work. I didn't ask him what, as I had already decided to stick with the fob, already having been through the drill having periodically to wake our Tesla up before we could enter it with a mobile key.

My brother has the same issue with his Tesla Model 3 occasionally failing to recognize his mobile key. The fact that ten years after the Model S went into production, neither Tesla nor Lucid can get doors to open reliably with mobile keys tells me that this technology is not yet evolved enough for automotive applications.

More helpful information, thank you.
From reading all of these responses, it seems that the most prudent thing to do is exclusively use the key fob , and forego the mobile key, at least until the software works better?

So I believe you are saying you have your mobile key (iPhone) on your person as well as the Key Fob and you are not experiencing the problems hmp10 has been having? Does your facial recognition still work once you enter the car? Are you having any screen freezing issues?

Correct. It's probably why I was experiencing much less frustrations comparatively because I have been using the key fob from day 1 exclusively.

To be fair, I've never seen that behavior using the key fob
Does that make a difference? Key fob or mobile key, doesn’t it seem to indicate a problem of some kind with the doors or the software? Or are you thinking the two problems can in fact be unrelated?

I think, if you are up for it, try only using the key fob and see if you experience the same issues. It's not our job to test these things out, but like many others here, we are glad to do so, up to a point.

I’ve never used my mobile key — wdn’t know how to. But I always have to carry my phone. Maybe I ought to delete the Lucid app but that might mess with my Bluetooth, right?… However, the car has deleted my profile anyway and therefore my Bluetooth link as well.

Yea if your profile doesn't exist on the car I don't think it should be an issue unless your phone is setup under someone else's profile?

That will be my plan , unless or until , this apparently very frustrating issue gets sorted by Lucid. Again, another hearty thank you for all the invaluable information you have shared.

…and why aren’t we informed about the associated limited functionality?

No, phone and car are in my name.

I had issues when I used just the Iphone where the car handles would pop open and then quickly close. So I just carry the key fob for now. Facial recognition works. If I use the Valet key I need to enter a five digit numerical code before I can drive. I also noticed that the Lucid likes to remain in the sleep state and takes 30 + seconds to wake up and connect while the Plaid seems to be on 24/7.

If facial recognition worked, you would not need to enter a PIN to drive!

The last thing I would want is to have facial recognition for the valet.
My point was that you said, "Facial recognition works," and the fact that you have to enter a PIN to drive means it is not working! Unless facial recognition works for you and not the valet? In my case, facial recognition does not work in any case (key card, mobile app, key fob), although sometimes, I get a green checkmark saying it was successful.

Facial recognition works great for me. It will never work for the valet card *alone*

My expectations for this car were not vs a Tesla, but vs other luxury sports cars in this price range. Customer care and service have been awesome. Performance, range, and driving, I love the car. The software is improved from 1.0.4, but still has a long way to go. I make many compromises in my expectations so I can enjoy the car. Boot time is excessively long, lock/unlock is inconsistent to be kind (with the key fob in your pocket), preferences for lock/unlock don't exist, Homelink implementation is awful, Cameras / park distance get a D in my grade book. Audio controls are virtually unusable while driving, Nav is not good, there is no way to "turn the car off", no comfort access. Lag when changing screens is still way too long. Common occurrences like returning to the car for a forgotten item confuse the proximity lock/unlock to no end. Standing next to your 185K car waiting for it to decide if it wants to unlock and then after waiting a "firm" to the full indent press of the handle still having no response, is beyond frustrating. I am waiting for the next update to try the mobile key again. So far the mobile key has been so bad its not worth the frustration. I use the fob which is less bad. If I press the handle when locked, unlock immediately. If I press an unlocked handle, lock immediately. Every time, first time, and immediately. That's not the bar to be a great luxury car, that's the bar to an entry level car from other manufacturers.
Hopefully Lucid is monitoring these forms and taking the feedback seriously.

The valet card pin code is an interesting choice, as now we need to share the pin with the valet when giving them the key fob. I’d prefer the car to be able to drive say 5-10 mi up to 30mph without pin
