Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Touring

As a Touring reservation holder, I'm kind of bummed to hear it's the least popular option. I was thinking it was nicely placed between the high-end models and a more value proposition in the Pure.

As we wait to hear about Touring availability, I've been keeping an eye on the dropping prices for used GTs. Even though I have my reservation at the lower price, at some point, when considering the longer range, fully-optioned GT vs. the original price Touring+options+tax, the GT may be looking like a better option.

I wouldn't be too upset that Touring is the least popular. We each have made our decisions based on cost (what we can afford) and available options (what we don’t want to live without). Personally, there is no way that I can afford a $150K car so the GT is our. I really want the glass roof, the heated/ventilated seats, and the (hopefully) increased functionality that will come (someday) from the DDP.

Based on all of the above the Touring makes the most sense for me and I am lucky enough to be able to stretch my budget for the 110K cost. For others 80K might be a stretch and the Touring options may not matter. At the end of the day, we will all end up with an amazing car. As far as the used GT goes, I suspect it will be quite a while before the price will drop down to Touring range.

And Rivian just recalled literally ALL of their R1T's and R1S's because of a faulty, and potentially deadly, steering wheel manufacturing defect. I can continue to wait for my Touring. Speedy production alone isn't always the best strategy. There needs to be a balance of speed, quality, and SAFETY in manufacturing.

Lucid’s recall was for a wiring harness that meant the speedometer and displays may go black, but did not otherwise affect the driving at all. The tow hook recall was similarly not life threatening.

Rivian’s recall was for “insufficiently torqued steering knuckle fastener [which] could cause excessive wheel camber, or, in rare instances, a separation, affecting the driver's ability to control the vehicle, and increasing the risk of a crash.”

The latter is clearly more potentially deadly than the screens going out, as the former did not in any way affect the driving at all.

Not shitting on Rivian, but it is quite honest to say that the Rivian recall is for a much more serious issue.

I believe they still know the original date, and will go by that, not by this "confirmation" date. The emails they sent at the time of confirmation in August stated that confirming would not effect your place in line.

I do find it odd they no longer show the original order date on the web site, though. Nor the configuration you chose at the time of the original reservation. But I'm confident they still have that stored somewhere on their end.

I'm in a similar situation. My original reservation was 9/14/21 and now it shows my 8/22 confirmation date...

I have changed to quantum grey since seeing at at test drive. To fill in the rest: 19" aero, glass roof, surreal pro I think? is there a maybe button (wink), and no stealth.
