Electrify America is enraging EV owners

Anyone have any movie trilogy recommendations? Arrived at the Quartzite Loves EA station an hour ago and think I've got at least a few LOTR films between me and the additional 50 miles of range I need to charge in order to get to LA (and any of its dozens of EA stations).

Y'all crazy for traveling and needing to stop at Quartzite. The Air is one of the few cars that can skip that station altogether

He has a pure, don’t forget. You have a de with more range.

I'm still almost positive you can make it from buckeye to Indio in a Pure

Depends on what speed and conditions though! (although on second guess the most extreme low weather you get is a bunch of clouds)

I'd rather drive 55 than get stuck at Quartzite for 2 hours

Actually have a GT loaner, which makes it even less excusable since I'm just barely short of range. Should have topped off in Phoenix and, indeed, skipped this nightmare. A lesson I'll not soon forget, as I'm sure the AGT a few spots (~1 hr) behind me will agree with.

Also, just witnessed an IONIQ5 cut off a Niro EV directly behind me because the little old lady behind the wheel of the Niro ran into Love's for bathroom break and took all of 3 minutes to return. Mind you, it's taking about 30 min average per car to charge i.e. zero rush, so the amount of cosmic and karmic shade IONIQ guy is absorbing can't be good for his aura. Yes, I stopped in Sedona and learned a thing or two.

I don't think any of the EV buyers have been given informed consent when they bought the cars. No discussion of risk of being stranded or delayed for extended duration due to the current state of the charging infrastructure.
From my back seat, all I can see is EV owners are left to fend for themselves by leaving the house at 6 am like hydbob, or patiently waiting around like AirPlur, or spending time mapping out charging options as if we're going to a battle, which was what I had to do, much to my dismay.
This really takes a lot of fun away.
Just my opinion.

Hah yes. That specific stretch of the 10 was my very first trip in the Air. I got to Quartzite and didn't want to wait an hour. Looked at distance to Buckeye and was like...sure I can make it. Pulled into the station with 3 miles left, almost crapped myself. But lesson learned, totally possible to make that drive hah.

It can, and will while roadtripping for a couple more years. The tradeoff is getting to drive a better car everyday. It's why having a home charging setup is so important.

EA should buy a bunch of Lucids and use the vehicle to vehicle charger.

Charging at 9 mi/min. is faster than waiting for the one working charger to become available.

I think my house rate is 22 cents per kWh... I should charge $1/ kWh to cover wear & tear. Working on my sign.

Every disaster is an opportunity.
Our fully loaded home rate including tax, delivery, etc. from ComEd is 14 cents per kWh in NE Illinois, it makes no sense to wait in line while Uber and Lyft drivers are going for 125% in there Kia's and Hyundai's.
The few road trips that I've done have been to locales where a belching diesel rolling coal is way more popular than one of them battree cars, finding an empty charger hasn't been an issue LOL

Gotta say love sitting at a red with some of them noisemakers next me thinking they're going to boot stomp my battree car off the line

My least favorite EA station (which is saying somethin'), but there aren't other options so you just have to plan for a long wait and a very slow charge (sometimes single digit).

Unfortunately, not North to Las Vegas on 95. You have to stop at Quartzite and then again in Searchlight.

Now if Kingman was reliable, I could stretch to a single stop there and make it in my Touring 20". However, Kingman is notoriously problematic.

I've literally had to change charging stations because I was pulling 6 kW at Quartzite. Imagine waiting 40 minutes in 100 degree temps, baking in the sun only to have to wait another 20 minutes to change chargers. When I changed I was bouncing between 20-36 kW. I took as little as possible to get to Searchlight, which was wonderful both times.

I have always been able to charge in Kingman but always slow with broken chargers. I would expect based on usage EA can easily tell which are the critical sites to maintain. Its unfortunate that sites like Kingman and Quartzsite go multiple months without repair.

"Almost" is a tough standard when, if you're wrong, pushing a 5400 lb car is your next likely option;)
It is a 219 mile trip. Yea totally doable

3 hours, 10 podcasts (s/o Smart Mouth), 2 virtual HR compliance trainings, 6 servings of flaming hot funyons, and 3 extended commiseration/bitching chats with fellow EV owners later, we charged (86 kWh station-restricted) the needed 300 miles to make it to Pasadena! Ostensibly! And then lost 80 miles of range and had to add another 30 at the whatever premium outlets! Nonetheless, I feel like each of those kWh we added in Quartzite was a rite of passage (hazing?) into this crazy world of semi-early adopters, and was a memorable part of our 2-week roadtrip/initiation into the culture.

Extroverted and want to make friends? Drive a non-Tesla EV across the 95 with insufficient range during holiday rush hour! I think we were all one (additional) broken charging station away from busting out our collective holiday leftovers and having a potluck in the Love's parking lot. My remaining Terry Black's brisket (s/o Goldbelly) would have definitely been a winner.

Which has me thinking, specifically on behalf of my introvert passenger/wife, I think we need some sort of indication that someone is un/available for conversation while queueing/charging. We all have different ways of coping with EA, and while some may prefer a crying shoulder from a stranger, others would sooner hide themselves in the frunk to avoid any human interaction during such an emotional low-point of their holidays. Maybe hang a tie around the rear view mirror? Or, if college memory serves, does that mean something else...
