It would not surprise me if they deliver nothing but Grey for a while. They had a big backlog. The way they seem to work I would bet any other colors will not be delivered for a long time. If rbbarry's rep is telling the truth, he will have reserved 3 months after my Red Santa Cruz 21" but will get his Grey delivered before my red.

They may just allocate a sprayer for Grays. It may slow down production of other colors but I don't forsee it stopping production of other colors.

Yeah, if folks stuck to their guns on color (Grey, Silver, Red), wheel and interior(Santa Cruz), they had a long wait on their hands. I am surprised that Lucid's operation apparently only has one paint facility, thus they get on a color and deliver way out of order sequence.

If I am not mistaken the entire building that is being used for assembly now is the paint shop.

And the painting is crazy complex too. Primer dip, paint booth, buffing/inspection/correction. Lots of moving parts, literally. Painting is no easy thing.

That is the question. Can they deliver more than one color at a time? I don't have the answer, but they seem to go in color streaks, or perhaps it was just that there were a lot of reds on backorder?

They certainly can, it just depends on how they sequence the builds/batches. The production bottleneck depends on how many colors can be painted at the same time in parallel or if the sequencing is very tight. None of us know how many paint booths they have, or if their paint equipment can do multiple colors.

I've dealt with some massive ops scaling before in my time, but manufacturing cars is an entirely different universe :)

They’re currently delivering three colors at once so they certainly can.

UPDATED AS OF APR 14, 2022

Neighbor cracked rim on a 21" S Class wheel so I decided to modify the order from a 21" inch wheel to a 19" wheel. Was told switching was not a problem as there are plenty of 19" wheels available so change should not affect delivery date; informed official confirmation on order change could take a day. Official confirmation received within 1 hour. Discussed other aspects of the order, see changes to last update (approximately Mar 23) in bold italics.

Nice to see they’re providing a fairly exactly VIN assignment date vs wide range of “mid to late April.”
If it is real, yes. However Mid-March, they suggested my VIN asignment was in the next couple weeks and they would make the 4 month benchmark (May 6). I believed them and late last week, I started the financing process. That will expire 5/20, so I must start over because only weeks later, they are asking for another 2 months. If they really are that disorganized, it makes me nervous about their ability to plan.

I guess we will wait and see. I am betting a nickel that after the next week while they get through what was already in process, we see almost all or all greys for a good while.

I wonder if that is a new policy/methodology that will be implemented across Lucid or if it is an interpretation by the DA? I guess time will tell. The tighter they can make these dates, the better, as long as they are realistic and they can stick to them or do better.

As far as grey goes, my DA promised me he would contact me as soon as he knows that a VIN has gone out for a grey car. I have yet to hear anything from him, but am quite hopeful given the other feedback.

al....and the availability of bi-directional is always one quarter away.
And Grey VINs, And silver paint, and 20” wheels, and the Touring deliveries, and Apple car play, and Dream drive pro, and the new GT-P, etc. etc., etc.

I’ll swear, Peter is sounding a lot more like his old boss Elon every day!
