Why bother with Lucid?

And Grey VINs, And silver paint, and 20” wheels, and the Touring deliveries, and Apple car play, and Dream drive pro, and the new GT-P, etc. etc., etc.

I’ll swear, Peter is sounding a lot more like his old boss Elon every day!

Yeah, I totally get it. Peter = Elon. Which leads me to wonder...

If Lucid is no different than Tesla, why bother with Lucid, a Tesla wannabe? And with all the repeated disappointments and delays and obfuscations and ineptitudes and broken promises and inadequacies and repeated failures in software, communications, and paint for God's sake, why are you all still even in for a Lucid? When there's plenty of choice amongst luxury EVs that are actually in production with >400 miles of range, insane horsepower, and cool interiors (at least when they can find white carpets). There's obviously NO DISCERNABLE DIFFERENCE between Lucid and Rivian, Fisker, Tesla (the ones without yokes), Polestar, Hummer, F150 Lightning, Mustang, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW, Lordstown, Canoo, Faraday Future, or Aptera (an incomplete list at best), so why bother with Lucid?

Why bother with a company that can't even paint a car grey! Or even spell GRAY like real Americans do! Why give $140K to a company that can't make the doors work correctly and can't install Carplay like any old Hyundai or Chevy? Just because it's a miracle of range, acceleration, and handling?

Why not vote with your wallet and give up on a car that will be delivered in the next few months so that you can get in line to purchase an EV that won't be delivered until 2023 or 2024? It would be far better to reward the EV companies that are always accurate and forthcoming with their timelines and make sure their cars are delivered on time with all their promised features and at their promised price rather than Lucid. Like Rivian! Or Tesla! Or Mercedes! Or BMW! Or Aptera!

Why bother with a company that has actual consistent human beings as every customer's point of contact? Or has the executives in charge of design or marketing or sales or digital write personal emails or make phone calls to address customer complaints? Why would you even bother with a company like that when you can deal with Elon directly? Or GM Customer Service?

And now that Peter's cashed in all his Lucid stock, he'll be too busy making brilliant educational videos and trying to buy Snapchat rather than making sure Lucid is churning out cars as fast as possible to counter an insane burn rate. He should take a cue from Elon and just sleep on the factory floor like every rational CEO would. After all, Peter is sounding more like his old boss Elon every day!

*Sarcasm off*

No one needs a $140K car. It's a luxury item, literally an indulgence. And opting for a Lucid means getting the whole package: A car that's arguably the best ever made along with all the pains and failures in communications, processes, software, hardware, etc. that come from purchasing V1.0 (V0.9 for the DE :D ) from a start-up which is trying to manufacture an incredibly complex machine in the midst of all the chaos caused by these pesky little packets of RNA. This is what we all signed up for, and anyone who expected otherwise should think twice about that real estate offering for a bridge in lower Manhattan.

I'm not trying to make excuses for all of Lucid's failures. They've made many unforced errors and have significant communications issues both internally and externally. And there's plenty of evidence of misguided, unnecessary optimism in their timelines. But largely thanks to people on this forum, they've become more responsive and transparent and perhaps a bit better?

So, as we all face repeated delays and issues with these luxury cars, remember the wise words of Vincent the hitman in Collateral who said, when all his expectations for his perfect plan went awry, "Now we gotta make the best of it, improvise, adapt to the environment, Darwin, shit happens, I Ching, whatever man, we gotta roll with it." Chill out. Your cars are on their way.

it's one thing if they took all your money and not deliver the product but they are only holding on to your deposit money and i'm pretty sure they would refund you that money if you explain why you want to cancel (color delays).

My Mercedes remote start app doesn’t work when it’s cold outside. Sometimes the “comfort entry” seats go the wrong way and don’t go back to my memory position when getting into the car. If you say “Hey Mercedes” to MBUX and ask for directions to Whole Foods it has several times tried to send me to California from Rhode Island. And the lane keep assist will sometimes forcibly brake the front tire and steer me back into my lane I’m trying to merge out of if I’m crossing a white line even though I have my turn signal on. And the trunk has fallen on my head hard twice when I was parked on a steep driveway. My 30k mile car also stalled in the interstate last week due to a fault in the gas cap where it cracks and can suck air in if you screw it on correctly. So if a company that’s been building cars for 6 months has a few more problems than the maker of my current car that’s been building them for 100 years does, I’ll accept it.

My issues all stem around communications. I can't complain about software until I have a car to complain about. I really just want it, and expect it, to do some of the basics, lock/unlock, functional Nav, functional stereo... Are there some things I wish it had, sure, but it doesn't (yet) and I will just have to deal with not having SiriusXM or a way to open/close the garage door that made sense. I will, most likely, just use the SiriusXM App on my phone through BT. I will just use the clicker until they push an update to make HomeLink more usable. There are ways to make this work. I am sure someone riding in the car will ask why I have that clicker on the visor and I will tell them that it is easier to use that at this point. I am sure Lucid would rather that not be the case, so I am sure they are working on it. All of these little issues are certainly not where Lucid wants to be right now and they have every motivation to make the corrections/revisions all of us as asking for. I am a driver and not a rider, so many of the DDPro features are not as high up the list as they might be for some. I do not drive enough to give them the value they might have to others. I don't complain about range. Anything over 300 miles and we are probably taking the wife's SUV anyway. I just need it to get to the Mountains and, maybe the beach (3.5 hours).

The "grey delay" is starting to stretch out and worry me. Those of you who did not order grey or silver really cannot know the disappointment and frustration watching those that ordered the same month you confirmed get VIN's and their cars. We are very happy for those that do, but deeply wish we were the one's talking about when we were picking up our cars or having them delivered. We still have no sight of that and, quite frankly, it is taking longer than it should and I am sure Lucid feels the same. I really wish they could give me a date I could rely on, but they haven't and can't.

The above is not written with anger, more with resignation. It is what it is. It doesn't mean I have to like it or pat Lucid on the back for a "job not done". I hope it is just another bump in the road, a road expected to have a few bumps.

I think it's a valid point, as the competition increases with other luxury EVs, the things that are missing in the Lucid Air do tend become increasingly disappointing. For me, the lack of blue exterior color choice as well as multiple software related deficiencies (e.g., CarPlay, sentry mode, dash cam, etc) are a concern. Just hoping Lucid gets it act together sooner rather than later.

Well, I don't have to be happy about everything to buy something, do you? Are you? Or do you just want me to cancel because you ordered the exact same configuration?;);)

It does not do Lucid any favors to sit around and say how great they are and pretend there are not things they should have or can do better. They will never produce the car we think they can, and will, if they are not pushed. Peter Rawlinson has made the statement that he wants Lucid compared to the Mercedes S Class. If that is his benchmark, we need to let him know where he falls short of his own yardstick.

I reserved a Rivian R1S on February 15, 2019. The vehicle was going to be delivered in late 2020. Then Spring 2021. Then Fall 2021. Then I got an email telling me my "Rivian Guide" would contact me no later than Thanksgiving 2021 to discuss final order configuration. Then I got an email saying my R1S would be delivered in May/June 2022. Then Rivian hit me with a $18K price increase. Then they backed off in the face of mass cancellations. Still no contact from my "Rivian Guide". Still no answers to the two emails I sent them months ago. Still no idea when -- if ever -- I'll get this vehicle.

Yeah, Lucid frustrated me with repeated production delays. It didn't help that switching my color choice occasioned a delay that Lucid assured me would not occur. But, end of the day, dealing with Lucid has been a cakewalk compared to the constant delays and total radio silence from Rivian for the past three years.

Take a look at the Tesla forums to see what's been happening with people trying to get their hands on a Model S Plaid. No cars for test drives. Long delays. Virtual blackmail to try to force the purchase of FSD (which has bumped up to $12,000). Etc.

Mercedes EQS? Better be willing to pay tens of thousands above MSRP for a lumpish car with no rear headroom, no frunk, and an interior from the video arcade in a casino.

You know it’s highly likely those issues won’t be fixed by the time you receive your car. And range doesn’t appear to be important. And the frustration of waiting while others ahead of you get served first and of poor communications comes across in your posts. So, seriously, why Lucid? I’m guessing the test drive was really that amazing, wasn’t it? And you know that in the end it’ll be worth the wait.

I’m going all in on Faraday Future. Definitely expect delivery this year. Production starts Q3 2022! And this time, they’re serious! 😂

We all know how you feel. You say so many times a day. I’m not unhappy.

my wife is fighting double breast cancer. That is a survival issue. That is a loved one. That is something worthy of emotion. I need her, I don’t need a car. I might want a car, but not need it. It is an object. Chill

It's trying to tell you something - you just aren't listening. Come join us where remote start will always work and your car already knows where Whole Foods is.

Perspective, thanks. A very close friend of ours has Stage 4 breast cancer and has had it for 15+ years. That month I mentioned we would be out of the country in another thread is with her and her husband. He/They have been some of our closest friends for the last 37 years.

One of my closest friends just went through 5 rounds of chemo and a double mastectomy; her surgery was two weeks ago. She’s 36.

I’m really sorry to hear about your wife and I wish her a quick recovery, though we both know how not quick and not painless the recovery usually is.

If she wants a survivor to talk to, I know my friend would be happy to chat. Let me know if I can help. <3 I wish you and her peace and as much calm and comfort as possible.

You lost me with Lucid, a Tesla wannabe…

This is exactly my experience with Rivian. Looking forward to actually receiving my GT within a few months, while my R1S will probably be 2024 at the rate they are going. I’ll take the Lucid “problems” all day.

Haha yeah if they’re gonna be a scam company at least make something that doesn’t look like a Pontiac Aztec. And the interior is soooo tacky with screens covering everything. Sticking an iPAd on everything isn’t luxury, fools.
