Why bother with Lucid?

I reserved a Rivian R1S on February 15, 2019. The vehicle was going to be delivered in late 2020. Then Spring 2021. Then Fall 2021. Then I got an email telling me my "Rivian Guide" would contact me no later than Thanksgiving 2021 to discuss final order configuration. Then I got an email saying my R1S would be delivered in May/June 2022. Then Rivian hit me with a $18K price increase. Then they backed off in the face of mass cancellations. Still no contact from my "Rivian Guide". Still no answers to the two emails I sent them months ago. Still no idea when -- if ever -- I'll get this vehicle.

Yeah, Lucid frustrated me with repeated production delays. It didn't help that switching my color choice occasioned a delay that Lucid assured me would not occur. But, end of the day, dealing with Lucid has been a cakewalk compared to the constant delays and total radio silence from Rivian for the past three years.

Take a look at the Tesla forums to see what's been happening with people trying to get their hands on a Model S Plaid. No cars for test drives. Long delays. Virtual blackmail to try to force the purchase of FSD (which has bumped up to $12,000). Etc.

Mercedes EQS? Better be willing to pay tens of thousands above MSRP for a lumpish car with no rear headroom, no frunk, and an interior from the video arcade in a casino.
Model S plain is not hard to get anymore. The Model S LR with 19’s is harder.

Off topic but that is seriously cool. Maybe they get their inspiration from Kusama?
Yeah I wonder. You could walk into that room and each light had a proximity sensor and would change color when you approached. Maybe Lucid could incorporate that tech to get their doors to open 🤣

I just checked the Tesla website. Depending on color, they are giving delivery dates of June/July for most colors.

What I was referring to, though, was what Tesla was doing a couple of months ago with the Model S. Upon order, you were given a delivery date range for a car without FDS (which relatively few buyers are choosing). Then you were notified of a significant delay unless you were willing to add FSD -- for $12,000 -- to your configuration. Adding FSD to a car requires only activation of hardware that is installed in all the Model S's, so it should have no effect on production times or sequences at all.

unless you DON’T want the LR with 21” wheels. 19” pushes you out until Nov-Feb,
