What did you sacrifice for a Lucid Air?

Sacrificing loads of space for hauling people and items (including a tow hitch). My XC90 will be missed. However, what I am gaining in my opinion is luxury and no more reliance on gas / oil changes.
(Oh... also sacrificing a fair amount of money that could be used for solar panels... just another delay for those to be installed I guess).

Sounds like your radar detector saved your bacon. What do you have and how is it set up?
Uniden DS3 in the left windshield lower corner connected with clear command hooks because the suction cups that came with it wouldn’t stick, then I hid the power cable with 3M cable clips underneath the steering wheel and behind the pilot panel. Low fi solution but it works. It’s not too much of an eyesore.

Super cool!

Just curious what people are letting go of / sacrificing / selling / delaying for their Lucid Air? Or if you decided to not get an Air, what did you get instead (doesn't have to be another car and can be intangible items)?

My next expense would've been a bathroom renovation. It's nowhere close to the price of an Air, so not only I'm delaying the renovation but I would also be letting go of enclosing my home's patio area.

Mercedes S560. Will never buy German cars again.

When and if my Air ever gets built and delivered I will drive it for a while and if dependable will sell my SL550. At this stage in life my wife and I stay within 200 miles of home and I do not need 2 regular drivers. Will miss the SL but the Lucid seems fun enough….

Gotta admit... that's a beaut. My wife loves MB... I have personally never purchased one for myself (was close on the EQS, but Lucid out did it).

IMO just dont be in a rush to get it, let them work the bugs out at the very least this Trunk/Frunk issue.

Super cool!
I didn’t want to pay for the stealth drug smuggler install where they take the car apart and hide a real pro unit, but this little ol DS3 has saved me thousands of dollars in tickets, never got a ticket in my life and never drive anywhere near the speed limit.

I had one of those stealth radar detectors and jammers in my old R8 and I was more concerned with getting a ticket for the system.

I feel attacked 😂

(But I love my install - it’s just so…. clean ❤️)

Why? If installed well, they’re basically invisible. (Also, good luck trying to figure out which sensors are the 32 stock sensors and which aren’t)

(This all assumes it had the “turn off after 5-6 secs” capability all the new ones come with)

CHP in CA Know when they are being jammed. They can pull you over if they choose and cite you since jammers are illegal here. Small likelihood of this happening but not worth the risk in my opinion.

Impossible to “know” you’re being jammed unless it’s always on. The guns throw an error, similar to when the gun is simply aimed poorly and misses, and then the jammers turn off within a set time limit at which point the guns read a speed.

Also, jammers are only illegal if they are *on*. Having them isn’t.

They *can* cite you, but would have to prove it was turned on. This is why you can buy a car with them and import it with no problems as long as you don’t turn said jammers on.

Of course, if the jammers don’t turn off after a few seconds and allow a reading, that’s a different story.

Also, it’s *much* easier to wait for the next speeding sicker than deal with all of that.

(I am not a lawyer, but researched this quite a bit)

Oh also I’m only talking about laser. Radar jamming is EXTREMELY illegal. Don’t do that.

Ok I believe you. I was just relaying what I was told by a CHP officer. You are probably correct.

Haha no worries. Another interesting tidbit is that having three devices that jam laser is a misdemeanor, but having four or more is an infraction. The latter is much worse than the former.

If you do get cited for the misdemeanor, the fix is almost always going to be simply to remove the jammers and the fine is quite low (sub-$100).

If you annoy the cop, of course, they can write you up for all sorts of things - so don’t do that. But the current crop of motorist devices out there are quite good and work well.

This is the reason I prefer the Radenso system over the Escort Passports I used in earlier cars. The Radenso turns the jammer off automatically after an interval you set (from 1 to 6 seconds). The Passports required the driver to hit a button to kill the jammer, which is a distraction while you're trying to get your speed down before the police can reset and fire another beam at you.

Yup. Stinger also turns it off automatically (also adjustable), as does K40.

Where are you connecting to power?
