It might the most impractical idea ever, but I'm annoyed that it doesn't work.
Nah, this is a very strange omission on this 250k car… I expect more for the money on the Pure. I will join @hydbob and be a member of the class. This is a joke, right?![]()
So... 100W max USB-C PD rate as the standard when the Air was released to production, 112kWh battery, accounting for losses and vampire drain... carry the 2... You could charge the car in a very reasonable 4-8 months, assuming you didn't ever check on it or wake it up. Not bad!It might the most impractical idea ever, but I'm annoyed that it doesn't work.
Really, you could charge up your 12V battery. Jump start via USB-C. If only there were a port on the outside, that might almost sound useful.So... 100W max USB-C PD rate as the standard when the Air was released to production, 112kWh battery, accounting for losses and vampire drain... carry the 2... Kidding aside, agreed, that could be a useful yet rare case. But I'm pretty sure the ancillary 12V systems in the car pull more than USB-C PD spec allows. Best case PD today is 240W. There would have to be a serious rethink of the power management in the 12V systems to make this feasible.Really, you could charge up your 12V battery. Jump start via USB-C. Leave it to the insanely smart people on this forum to come up with a genuinely useful feature from a random thought…Really, you could charge up your 12V battery. Jump start via USB-C. If only there were a port on the outside, that might almost sound useful.
Well, its an 12v 18ah battery, so it should have a capacity of 216 W.. it COULD be a genuinely useful feature in terms of jump-starting! But yes, there would need to be a significant overhaul to make this possible and also safety concerns that need to be thought about.Kidding aside, agreed, that would be useful. Isn't there a song, "You light up my life!" that was inspired by charging the Lucid via USB-C ????Class action
@TWRAPS mightanyone know what the rated output is on the USB-C?
That’s a great idea! When I first got the car I posted that there should be a 12V outlet available outside the car since it would make it easier to jump the 12v battery than the cockamamie junction located under the front wheel well. The 10 to 20 amps these can handle should be enough to Power the high voltage relays and unbrick a car with a dead 12v battery.
They are notAs a related matter, does anyone know if the console USB ports are active when the car is turned off? If I leave my phone in there overnight, will it charge up?
I assume they're not, but as an experiment I just put my phone in there and walked away until the car turned off. I'm going to check in about 1/2 an hour to see if the phone's charge level goes up. (I don't use mobile key, just the fob.)
