Dream Edition aiyoooo!

I have the invitation as well. Never owned a Lucid (own an, ahem, competitor model that I'm hoping to drop like a hot potato and time is ticking).

I'm OK with the added price for what you get - still deciding if I'm willing to pay that much more, I can swing it, but do I really want to? I already have an order with every option checked anyway so the only distinction from what I ordered is the added power and the larger wheels.

What gives me pause is the dramatic drop in range. It looks like it is only 16 miles shy of a similarly configured GT, but if you choose the base wheels and 7 seat config on the GT you get 437 miles which is nearly 70 more than the DE. Hmmm. If I ordered the base wheels for a swap, would I get more like 420?

The base wheels and the 7 seats are the two major range mods. The DE is standard with 7 seats (and it cannot be added as an option later to either GT or DE), so that’s stuck.

If you bought the base wheels separately, then yes, you’d get better range.

I know that, I was speculating how much. Note that the range cost for 7 seats is higher if you have the upgraded wheels (21 mile loss vs 13) which means all of these numbers are relative.

The best calculation I can do is 437 (GT with base wheels and 7 seats) minus 16 (DE penalty over loaded GT) == 421 miles. But that assumes loss-per-loss are transferable between configurations which is already not true given the variable loss for the 7 seats.

(And, aside, I'd have to add the cost of a second set of wheels/tires to the equation.)

Good analysis. That’s all I know too.

Also, how do those base wheels hold up to the extra power? Maybe they only allow the upgraded wheels because the base wheels with eco-tires were pushing their limits.

It appears to me that most if not all received the invitation for DE and currently hold GT order. Please don't hate but it looks to me like an upselling tactic due to limited supplies. It is understandable from company position to try to sell as expensive model as possible (profit margins) if you can't sell many units. I just wonder which model is going to be delivered first to general public GT or DE?

I mean, and 242 HP. Some whole cars make less than 242 HP.

I can tell you the difference between my 1111HP DE and an 819HP GT is massive, for me.

Nobody needs that HP, lol.

But it’s more than just getting the car earlier. All the other stuff (badging, etc.) is just niceties; you’re paying $14,400 over the fully-loaded GT for the extra HP. It’s essentially the “performance edition,” much like the Air DE was before the Air Sapphire.
True, but adding all that costs much less than $14.4k.
Right now it's limited to DE owners but I bet they will be available to everyone who wants to pay. They'll sell them until they run out of demand and then switch over to GT production. No reason to leave money on the table.

The invitation email also mentions “premium accessories”, so it seems they’re throwing in most/all accessories that they will be selling separately later, which should account for a few thousand dollars, depending on what accessories are currently available. The frunk seating mat is one example, charging adaptor, etc.

My Gravity DE invitation email referenced the fact that I’m a Gravity GT order holder. My Air is a Pure, so far far away from an Air DE owner lol

I'm not sure why there's so much posting about a huge range penalty with the Dream Edition.

The Dream has an EPA range of 370 miles on the large wheels. A Grand Touring configured with the same wheels and 7-passenger seating has a range of 386 miles, i. e., a 16-mile range penalty.

Seems like the Dream Edition is mostly just a way to pay more to get the car earlier.

As an Air Dream Performance owner who has driven Grand Touring loaners for extended periods, I can tell you that, for me at least, that extra 242 hp alone is well worth the rather modest price differential. (Check what the upcharges are for the step-ups at Mercedes, BMW, and Porsche to the AMG, M Sport, and Turbo S versions of their models. Then you'll understand what I mean by modest.)

Even though most of my driving doesn't make use of the Air Dream's extra power, for the frequent occasions when mood summons and road conditions permit, the extra liveliness of the Dream in Sprint mode makes a world of difference. I viewed the $30K price increase of the Air Dream over the Air GT a good deal then and now. I view the Gravity Dream price increase as both a surprise and a downright bargain.

OK, looks like the site has updated the ranges from when I was looking previously, so here for everyone's edification is a quick rundown of some of the configurations and ranges:

Gravity GT, 5 seats, base wheels: 450 miles
Gravity GT, 7 seats, base wheels: 437 miles
Gravity GT, 5 seats, mid wheels OR max wheels: 407 miles
Gravity GT, 7 seats, mid wheels OR max wheels: 386 miles
Gravity Dream Edition, 7 seats (no 5 seat option), mid wheels OR max wheels (no base option): 370 miles

It doesn't look like any other options move the needle on range.

It's been asked elsewhere, but I would be curious if it's really true that there is no difference between the mid and max wheel sizes, or if they just plugged in the more conservative number in the absence of real-world testing....

If DE announced now, I wonder what they meant by "something truly special towards end of Q1"?

This is not the case. I have this on good authority. The launch of a DE has been planned for some time, and is not a last- minute decision.

The question of *when to announce* a DE has been the discussion internally, to avoid the nonsense PR of “inaccessible car” yet again, not a sudden decision to come up with one now.

True, but adding all that costs much less than $14.4k.
According to whom? I have no idea what the price difference is for the motor being different, plus all the accessories, plus the exclusivity.

It costs whatever people are willing to pay for it. I have no idea if they priced it too high, but I presume they have data and context I do not.

Right now it's limited to DE owners but I bet they will be available to everyone who wants to pay. They'll sell them until they run out of demand and then switch over to GT production. No reason to leave money on the table.
I don’t know about that. Maybe. They likely will limit it; remember that after the DEs sold out they launched the GT-P, and it did not sell exceptionally well, so they tabled it.

It’s entirely possible there is no “GT-P” equivalent this time, but I do think it was smart not to name a number they are limiting the DE to, to start.

The invitation email also mentions “premium accessories”, so it seems they’re throwing in most/all accessories that they will be selling separately later, which should account for a few thousand dollars, depending on what accessories are currently available. Yes, I am told that the DE is going to be fully-loaded with all accessories (like the frunk seat) included as well. They will be an optional purchase for GTs and below.

My Gravity DE invitation email referenced the fact that I’m a Gravity GT order holder. My Air is a Pure, so far far away from an Air DE owner lol
It’s possible they sent multiple emails and it isn’t limited to existing DE owners. If that’s the case, then I have no idea how they chose. Can you post the beginning of your email?
