Wait, say what now? This math ain't Mathin'!! You had 2 reservations -- Touring ($1,000) and Pure ($300) but only got back $700 for the canceled Touring? Where's your other $300?

So you should get $1000 back for the canceled touring. Unless you have just placed the pure order at the same time you canceled. ??

You should get the full $1000 given item number 15 in the contract that some specs has changed after you confirmed the order. Your SA will push back but legally you should get a full refund.
 
To be honest, I think what happened is that when you tried to cancel they were ok with you downgrading to the pure at the old pricing and they applied $300 from your touring to the pure.
But your SA asked you not to disclose but you unintentionally did.
Same happened to me but they are pushing back on keeping my order date for tax purposes.

Ohhhhhhh just kidding I did get full $1000! What happened is I used one credit card for my first Pure reservation ($300) which I then upgraded to Touring (+$700) using a different card. I see $300 refund on the other one 🤣 😇
 
I think part of the issue is that VINs might be technically "assigned", but that isn't made public to the buyer until after they finish PDI and are about ready to ship and/or deliver. So your DA may have this info, but that info wasn't necessarily supposed to go to you just yet.

The more I think about the theory that many Tourings were produced ahead of time in order to get a head start on EOY deliveries, the more it makes sense to me.

I also have no trouble believing they have only a handful of DAs to handle all of these deliveries.

Your dates and color choice bode well for me, at least. I, too have Stellar White, can see the Apply for Financing link, and finalized on November 1st. Scheduled to chat with my DA tomorrow morning.
Although LUCID may have internal production assembly constraints with when the VIN is assigned to a vehicle the [internal] production process should not adversely influence/impact when the customer receives the VIN, as it is needed to complete the financing & purchase of the vehicle. Additionally, by consistently providing the VIN to customers it aids in maintaining transparency of production flow & deliveries.

As an example: both you and IsBuffs advise you have received an invitation [button] for financing and, as well, been advised your vehicle/s have been built. This could only have occurred with a VIN established for each vehicle. Those of us that have earlier reservations, confirmed reservation transfer to order, or have features & options that [likely] began with the first Touring builds have yet to receive an invitation for financing and/or have little idea of when our VIN is to be issued.

LUCID is continuing to mature the production assembly process as it expands to multiple assembly lines [to build the Pure], yet in the interim the customer experience is declining. For those of us that have waited years to acquire this vehicle have long sense crossed the line of production build 'fairness' and are simply abiding time. However, as we have [all] experienced by those that have decided to opt for a different brand, patience is running short for individuals simply looking for information that will ultimately get them to delivery. By providing the VIN once the vehicle has reached a particular phase of the build helps to maintain customer loyalty & continuity (let alone appeases the customer during a trying final phase).

That makes more sense. The only other explanation was that someone at Lucid made a mistake, thinking you had only one reservation and had downgraded it.

I get what you are saying. But Lucid tried that with the GT, and it left many customers confused and frustrated to have their VINs assigned and then be left with zero progress indicators for months after until delivery was scheduled.

I think what Lucid is trying to avoid here is false hope. And more accusations of "failed promises."

Many people on the forum have argued Lucid needs more transparency into the process. I somewhat agree. But that process often involves days or weeks of literally nothing happening. A car can roll off the production line, then sit for weeks waiting for the PDI staff to get to it. Then wait more weeks for a carrier to take it to the delivery site. All that waiting is a perfectly natural part of the process, but to a customer with no inside knowledge of how cars are manufactured, it can easily be a source of confusion and frustration. "Why aren't you working on my car every single day?!"

That leads to more angry contact with customer service. Which adds to overhead.

The same goes for the order of reservations, plus finalizations, plus batching. Yes, it sucks that someone who wants Mojave and reserved two years ahead of me won't get their car until months after me. But they have to start with some spec. And they have to batch as many similar cars together as possible in order to deliver as many cars as possible as quickly as possible.

If it weren't for forums like this one tracking orders, most folks would have no idea some who reserved later are getting their cars sooner.

I am convinced almost all of us with hopes of a delivery this year probably have a VIN assigned already internally. Many of those cars are probably already built. But even just getting the handful of DAs on staff to email each of us to inform us of that VIN would likely take many days. (It's still a manual process.) And that's if they were doing nothing but emailing VINs to people and asking to confirm address/phone and other details.

Inevitably, some would take that VIN, apply for financing and insurance, then lose their quote when the car doesn't arrive within 30 days. Leading to more anger and frustration.

If you knew your VIN, would that give you any more knowledge about when your car will actually be delivered? Not really.

My DA still avoided guaranteeing my car will be delivered this year, even after giving me the VIN today. I think it's extremely likely I'll have it in a week or two, but there are still too many variables to sort out between now and then to be 100% sure.

I'm convinced they would not give that number out at all until they were ready for delivery if we didn't need it for insurance and/or financing.

Whatever the thought process, I think Lucid is trying to learn from the past and make corrections in the way they hand out info to customers for this Touring run. Maybe in the end they will decide they over corrected and try and find a better time to give out VINs. I don't know. It's still definitely a flawed system.
 
Dumb question - for those of you with an invitation to apply for financing…where are you seeing this? Dashboard, account info, etc? Just want to make sure I’m looking in the right spot.

Just got off the phone with my DA. My VIN has indeed been assigned and he expects delivery before the end of the year. Wouldn't specify exact timing, as the car still has to go through PDI and then get shipped to Denver, but production is complete, and I'm pretty confident it will be in my hands sometime in the first half of December. We'll see. PDI could always unearth some major issue, I suppose.

So when you do get that email about applying for financing, I'd say that's very likely a sign your VIN will be not far behind.

Also, he didn't say, but from the looks of it, white is indeed the next color after silver. Not too many whites on our tracker, so I do think they will get through them quickly and move onto whatever color is next.

Talked to my DA today. He told me they did indeed "pre-build" some silver and white Tourings and they would be delivering those soon. I asked if they were batching colors and he said yes. He thought Red/Santa Cruz cars could be this year, but my Red/Tahoe might fall into January. Apparently, they even batch the interiors! He then gave me the CYA response that the timing could change either direction. I didn't ask about other colors.

I finalized my order yesterday and today I got an email 'Finance your Air through Lucid.' with a Find out More button. But logging in to my account there is nothing under Design & Orders other than "View Order" option. What is the sequence of events to expect going forward? As of now I don't know who my DA is and was told some one will reach out in few weeks.
 
just talked to my DA, she says from what she heard the earliest mine would go into production would be middle of December, delivery a few weeks after that. Interesting as its white with tahoe interior

The first finance email with the “learn more” or whatever link is automated and happens just after finalizing.

The “Apply for Financing Now” email comes later and coincides with the Apply button showing up in your account. For me, that was about three weeks or so later. But that will likely vary.

My DA reached out to me about a week or so after I finalized. He asked me to choose a time to chat.

@joec Thanks for laying out the steps. It is a roller coaster ride trying to figure out if we will get the car this year or not.
 
I would think exterior color should be more limiting than interior color. Interior color can be limiting based on supply?
I think it’s just for production efficiency. Painting the exterior with a single style of paint seems less burdensome to change out required equipment on the line. Although plenty of the Interiors have been manufactured and installed for the AGT, they are also different for the Touring, so this has me, as a Tahoe interior guy, worried a little.

At any rate, there’s still enough time on the clock for now to make good on the EOY delivery. I’ve considered upgrading to AGT with the 2.81% APR promo they are running (and begging for the old price), which ultimately amounts to a ~$20K increase in costs over a 72 month term, but the massage seats and a little extra HP I can never use aren’t really worth that to me.
 
So Joe - to add to your work...I have upgraded my Touring Gray/Mohave/19 to a Grand Touring/Gray/Tahoe/19 with delivery likely in the next few weeks. Been a crazy few days.
Could I ask you what the process to doing this was(what did you have to ask, etc.) I am looking into upgrading to the GT from the Pure, and getting it by the end of this year for the tax credit
