Spare tire

Just FYI. I had been under the impression that the tire can’t be re-used after applying the sealant from the tire kit.
However, the fixandgo.com, from which Lucid buys the tire kit states the following in the FAQ: “After the repair, you can drive for over 600mi / 1000km at a maximum speed of 65mph / 110km/h before visiting a tire specialist who will wash out the sealant from the tire (this process will take less than 10 minutes and plain water) and definitively conclude the tire repair. After that, your tire can be re-used as new.”
Also, according to the manual in the Lucid kit, you’re to contact fixandgo to buy replacement for the sealant, but the list of countries they currently ship to doesn’t include the US. And the sealant would cost 35 Euros from this UK company.
 
I think you might want to also try looking at the tire company advisement in this regard. I would not be surprised if Pirelli said that you should not reuse a "repaired" tire.

In California, it is now illegal to reuse a repaired tire. That's why the sealant is not allowed to be sold in California

Really? That doesn't sound right, because I bought it in California. Maybe you can't repair and reuse the tire but you can definitely seal it up for emergency use

Over the years I have had many tires "plugged" and repaired locally on three different cars. If it is illegal, someone forgot to tell the tire shops.

the bill, the language reads that an unsafe used tire, is one that:

Has 1/16 in. of tread depth or less;
Has damage exposing steel belts or other internal components;
Has been repaired improperly; or
Has sidewall bulges indicating possible internal damage.

However, they will not deliver it to addresses in California due to potential liability. It's a law that is open to interpretation, but some companies are being more strict than others. Here's a link explaining the law--

Are you talking about AB 949 Unsafe Used Tire?

That does not prohibit the use of tire sealants. It prohibits using the tire IF after using sealant, it is not repaired using an internal patch along with a cured rubber stem. The law defines what an unsafe tire is and what repairs are prohibited vs acceptable. It is illegal to sell a used tire with less than 2/32" of tread left. Illegal to patch a tire on the sidewall or shoulder.

So it is illegal to sell a tire that has been repaired solely with a temporary tire sealant. As long as it is subsequently repaired properly, that tire is deemed safe to use.

See my issue with trying to buy the unbranded LUCID sealant on Amazon. I could not order it as they would not deliver to California.


And I don't want to pay the inflated price that LUCID is charging for it.

Same product, same price. I put it in my cart, put my address in but didn't pay for it since I won't need it for a few more months and there were no messages about shipping restrictions. Unfortunately, unless you spend $69 dollars, you have to pay for shipping. They are a reputable company with some great products for detailing your car so you can add something to get over $69.. Wait for a sale unless you are price insensitive.

Lucid sells the sealant canister directly for $30.
 
The kit from Griot's Garage says you can only drive up to 55 mph for 125 miles.

The Fix and Go (aka Lucid) kit says 65 mph for 600 miles.

I'm thinking it might worth spending the extra money for the Lucid kit. We're all spending enough on this car. What's an extra $50 or so?
 
@hydbob so I finally got around to trying to confirm that the tire will fit in the frunk, and I'm just not seeing it. Is there a trick to getting it in there. I did get the same one as you (145/60/R20), but it feels like I still need a couple more inches (so many jokes). Anyone else run into this?

When you put the spare into the frunk, put it in vertically, then tilt the bottom toward the front (bumper) and the top of the spare toward the back (driver compartment)
