Radar detectors

Thanks @SaratogaLefty. It seemed like a good theory so I temporarily pulled off the registration sticker, but I still see nothing (photos attached).

I emailed customer care yesterday and they confirmed what people have been saying here:

My vehicle isn't an early vehicle or one of the first deliveries (I just got it last week). I've emailed them with a followup. The good news is they do confirm they'll be replacing the windshield (if it really doesn't have a cutout) once inventory is better.

I'm also having mobile service come out for my dead USB-C port, so I'll have them confirm onsite too.
I have to admit from your photos it doesn't appear to be there but it is pretty hard to see. Hard to believe you have one of the very early windshields but if so then you will eventually get a replacement I guess.

He's in good company 😉

Just heard from my Millbrae service advisor. He advised me that Lucid is now tinting the cutout area to intentionally make the cutout less obvious, but it is in the same location. He also said that there are several in Millbrae being prepped for delivery that are similar to mine.

Even knowing where it's supposed to be (he sent me a pic of the older style) I still can't tell where the cutout is. So if that's really what's going on, it's a really good job of tinting.

That’s awesome, honestly. I could do without the extra glare on the fastrak transponder :p (but it isn’t a big deal)

Yeah, so long as it works, I think this is clearly [sic] better.

If you want to see where it is I can show you on my car. Are you still going by Deep Reflections tomorrow?

Thanks!! Alejandro pushed me to Thursday, and I'll probably drop it off Wednesday afternoon.

But I got a picture from Chris that shows the location pretty clearly. Let me give it a try just as far to the right and front as I can, and if that doesn't work I'll IM you.

Hmmmm. For the roadtrip I might put it in the back window.
I am at Millbrae later this week and will get them to check/confirm… mine was delivered less than a week before yours

My Escort Max 360 is in the middle of the windshield just above the dash and seems to work fine.
I tried my Valentine in multiple positions including the "cutout" on the lower right side and it didn't work properly at all. Sold it yesterday. I guess I'll have to rely on my 11-99 license plate frame/badge and using a "rabbit" on the freeways. Just like the old days.

Well, I also have a Valentine, but no Air yet😏
Kind of wondering about the interference by the tint, because my Valentine works perfectly in my current cars with front windshield ceramic tinting. Perhaps Lucid tint is metallic and that can be a problem.

The Lucid windshield does have a strong metallic coating and that is why my Valentine didn’t work properly. I did put a ceramic tint on my previous car’s windshield and it didn’t affect the Valentine because it wasn’t metallic. No idea why the Escort works.

@Charley Can you elaborate on what model/delivery # of Air you have, the exact detector mounting location (e.g. perhaps a picture), and (more importantly) what leads you to believe it "seems to work fine" (e.g. known signal sources at similar ranges as in other vehicles, etc). I think many of us are curious as to if this is a question of model of detector, or its location (e.g. is there a (perhaps new) "window" that you have found), or if this is just a question of how much range is lost (web searches indicate that up to 95% range loss is common through these films). I'm currently in conversation with our Studio Advisor on this topic (it is a "make or break" for me). Thanks!

Dream Performance . Escort Max 360. I have not had any indication it is missing stuff. Picks up the K band sign telling me my speed that I drive by all the time just fine. Also other random signals as usual.

The passenger cabin can't completely be a Faraday cage if cell phones are to work...

The windows keep the cabin from being sealed from electronic signals, so no Farraday cage.

Clearly there is an existing effect, or they wouldn't have problems with both toll transponders and radar detectors... both involve weak signals and directionality.
