Radar detectors

I asked Lucid about the windshield. Had it changed. This is the response I received:

”We have changed the fabrication for the windshield and no longer have the metalized film. You can place your transponder anywhere now and it will read just fine!”

I’m on pretty good terms with my SA. I dropped him an email and 5 minutes later got that rather Straight forward answer.

My Lucid arrived last week, I believe it was built approx 1 month ago. it is your understanding that i should be able to place a transponder anywhere on my windshield? I use one for my neighborhood and one for tolls, thanks?

My DE was built in December of last year. There is a clear area at the bottom on the passenger side of the windshield that you can clearly see. That's were I put my EzTag.

My guess is that if you don't have that clearer area, you have the new design glass.

I don't, but my WHOLE windshield has that metallic coating. Lucid said they would replace when I need to use a toll

what does it mean by metalized film? what does that achieve? any benefits of having it?

It means that I can take my tinfoil hat off while driving!!

Sorry...😇

I just drove 30 miles to try a charge station. Had to pay with credit card but charging at 102kw. On the highway I jumped up to about 105mph for a few seconds. Then cruising at about 90. My Escort 360 Max started telling me kA band coming from behind. Finally after about 10 minutes of following me at 74 mph in a 70 he passed me. I continued to get his KA signal up ahead and he was over a half mile ahead. My detector works perfectly in the middle of the dash.
How are you connecting your Max360? I have the same and didn’t find a usb charger to connect to it. Glad to hear it works as I read several posts saying the coating prevented them from working.

@Hcuellar77 I bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J2HKR9K and started using it in my existing car... works just fine as a power source for an Escort.

As near as I can tell Lucid is now on their 4th windshield design being shipped. Based upon my reading here, the original had no "cut-out", two had a toll transponder "cut-out" that was impractical, and the 4th changed the IR film to one which is less problematic and does not need a "cut-out". What is not clear to me is what the timing of each was... I've read here of some DE owners who seem to have gotten that 4th design and we have been assured(?) that our confirmed AGT order will have it. It is unclear to me if all AGTs have it or what mix the DEs got. I believe that (some? all?) pre-production AGTs (e.g. studio models) got one of the "cut-out" units.

I have DE # 185 and it has the cut-out at the bottom passenger side.

Mine is a GT, I don’t see any cutouts so I am hoping is the one with the film that allows radars to work. Thanks, will get that adapter from Amazon.

What was the metalized film supposed to do and what has changed with the new glass without it?

Is the 4 ft adaptor necessary, or would one of the shorter ones work (1 ft or 2 ft)?
As we have not yet taken delivery of our AGT, I don't know, but welcome others' input... that said, I figured that it was better a bit too long than too short, and suspect that 2' would be too short (might interfere with the screens, etc). My plan (again, input from others welcomed) is to run the cord from the plug, along the driver's side, and into the under tablet screen storage area where I'd plug in the RD and have its cord run up under the driver's display to mount at a low/center windshield location (that still left the RD's display easily visible). I have not been allowed by the studio to test this in their demo car, as "not legal in VA".

This is good news as I've been a Valentine user since 93.

Has any gone looking into the mirror mount for 12 VDC?

Can you guys please list your police scanners/radar detectors for whatever works with the Lucid and the price of it so I can consider some options?

Thanks!

Uniden R7 EXTREME LONG RANGE Laser/Radar Detector, Built-in GPS w/ Real-Time Alerts, Dual-Antennas Front & Rear w/Directional Arrows, Voice Alerts, Red Light Camera and Speed Camera Alerts https://a.co/d/2Cd7y7X

That's what I've been using. Picks up the Ka band from the CHP at least a mile out.

If you live in/pass thru the VA/Md/DC region, there is really one choice: Escort Redline 360c... as it is resistant to Radar Detector Detectors (and VERY good too).

Yeah I second @Neurio Uniden. I think mine is an older model but works. Kyle used the newest one (I think the R8?) on the Lucid Cannonball attempt.
