Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Grand Touring

I just received a very nice unsolicited (!) email from my DA advising me that while my car hasn’t been built yet (AGT, grey, Mojave, 19” wheels, confirmed 14 Dec 2021), it is “sequenced for production in the factory queue….meaning the factory knows exactly how many vehicles it will produce before it builds” mine. He went on to state that “Unfortunately, as our manufacturing rates vary, I cannot predict a precise delivery timing estimate based on the factory’s queue.” He did promise that he will notify me the day my car enters general assembly. Last time we communicated was back in early May, when I’d gotten an estimate of a possible mid-late June VIN - obviously prior to the production and inspection delays others have described elsewhere.

While this probably adds to the mystery of how Lucid sequences orders for production, since other December greys have VINned, I‘m not in any huge hurry to take delivery as long as my 2012 Honda Pilot with 235k miles holds out, and was glad to get an update from out of the blue from my DA.

From the 23rd July screenshot to today, I see more wrapped cars in the holding pen; but otherwise the number on the main lot seems to be the same ...

Yes it's disappointing to see they are not shipping what appears to be ready for delivery wrapped cars in the main lot. For a company whos business it is to make and delivery cars you would think they would have a direct line on car haulers. If they are to produce and hopefully deliver anything close or just half their stated goals for rest of 2022 they need to have around 6+ haulers a day. Given no movement since around last Weds thats a shortage of over 30 car haulers. I admit there are only around 70ish that seem ready but thats still 10 haulers worth. Maybe this new VP of Global Logistics could get some cars "logistically" shipped to customers. I would go get mine if they would let us.

I got myself all excited when my app connected to the car and indicated it was one of those wrapped in the main lot, compounded by the receipt of the "arrange financing" email. Then spoke to the DA who was far less optomistic cooling my excitement, ugh. Then to see no movement of wrapped cars in a week, ugh.
Maybe I jinxed myself by first estimating Labor Day delivery on the forum as the forum may have some hidden powers as others have suggested. So maybe if I keep posting I can remove my jinx.

Sold the wifes car over the weekend to generate more cash should I ever get the request to pay email. Now shes driving the extra "Sunday" car. Its a stick with no Bluetooth so she's not super happy about that but we will get buy, and she can drive a stick pretty well. Got her a Bluetooth to FM transceiver to stay out of the doghouse.

It’s very close. I got similar language in February and then mid-late March they issued me VIN and very surprised of delivery call at mid April.

The email means exactly what it says, you will get notified whenever Lucid gets around to building your vehicle. As to when general assembly begins for your order, the best guess is late 3rd, or early 4th quarter. First, they have to make the Greys, and there are a lot of Grey confirms going back to December 1, 2021, then there will be a batch of Reds cars with earlier confirms. Maybe they even run a batch of Silver. There could be anywhere from 600 - 1200 vehicles that have to be manufactured before yours can be delivered. Maybe they ramp up to 33/day and the cars will be delivered quickly. Current rate of production appears to be < half that. So figure 2 months to produce and then another 1-2 months for PDI and transport.

I received the same email. March 9, 2022 confirmation of AGT Red Tahoe 19" but haven't a clue on when I might get the car. Still looking forward to my first EV snd still grateful to all the contributions to this forum!

I actually sign into the app once a day to see if I get this message. I figure it will automatically start showing once a VIN is assigned. Right now it just shows “No vehicle linked”

It was a criticism of Lucid's communication to you, not your understanding of it. They have the details and they choose to give you vague answers.

I bought a used Lucid Air Dream Edition 058 last Friday July 22nd. As of today, July 27th, Lucid still has not associated my car with my Lucid App. I complied with their demands to prove that I bought the car. I even sent them a picture of it parked in front of my house at the address that they have on file! Lucid contacted the seller and confirmed that I am the rightful owner. Five days later -- zippo (the Illinois DMV, arguably the most inefficient organization on the planet, took about 45 minutes).

Because Lucid refuses to activate my car, none of the connected services work (although the car constantly asks me to set up the app, Alexa, etc.). At one point, I was in Pensacola, Florida (the seller's location) in 100 degree and 100% humidity and I could not even get the air conditioning to function because the car was hung up on the registration screen. The prior owner told me that the only way to reliably open the doors is with the app, but the app won't recognize my car. Because Lucid STILL has not changed the car's registration on their end! Eventually I think/hope I figured out the key fob problem on my own.

Each one of my customer service interactions has been more frustrating that the last. Not one of those people has said anything like "welcome to Lucid." Or "how do you like the car so far?" None of them has given any indication that they care -- AT ALL. I have told them several times that I want to meet with Mr. Rawlinson (I offered to go to Arizona to see him). They won't even acknowledge that request. So far, I am impressed with the car but my interactions with the company have made me seriously consider whether I made a big mistake.

I have bought a lot of reasonably serious cars. I sold my 2022 Mercedes EQS 580 at a significant loss to make room for the Lucid. Candidly, so far, the Lucid car itself is a superior car to the Mercedes by any measure. But Lucid's customer service / owner interaction has been so dismally poor that I am considering ditching it. Unfortunately, the market seems to be saturated by existing owners willing to sell below MSRP. By now, any competent organization would have contacted each of those people to find out why. Obviously, nine out of eleven of those owners are not trying to score a windfall profit. They just want OUT. There are only 520 Dream Editions in the World. How hard would it be for Lucid to make them happy?
