Jaguar Rebrand

The Type00 is a fascinating design concept. It seems to derive cues from, dare I say, the Air. Jaguar's desire not to copy anything is a dubious assertion, to me at this point at least. Think about the Porsche Mission E nearly ten years ago for example. It was a breakthrough IMO. Yes, the Type00 design is badass and attention-grabbing, but it is a strain to imagine in practical dynamic, driving terms. One thing for certain is that it does not lean on the brand's design history, as does for example the Bently GT compared to 1930s versions. Production models will be practical and likely not so dramatic. It is not clear that it is a technological breakthrough like the Air. We are not driving history in our Airs, we are making it.

I applaud Jaguar's initiative and look forward to it advancing EV's in general.

Exactly what I've been saying; Jaguar is getting attention like no one else, and when was there ever this much discussion about Jaguar ever?

And to quote our president elect:

“good publicity is preferable to bad, but from a bottom-line perspective, bad publicity is sometimes better than no publicity at all. Controversy, in short, sells.”

Yup. Could not agree more strongly.

that is all possible however being tops on the social media probably will not result in increased sales. style, price, quality is what fuels sales. Jaguar has never been a mass market car.
their management is very misguided
Style, price, and quality are not the only things that fuel sales. Hype often fuels sales, at least initially. The Cybertruck is a fantastic example of that. It is not priced well, it is not good quality (as evidenced by owners’ complaints), and its style is divisive, just like Jaguar’s.

Also, you are assuming it won’t be priced well, or high quality, or that people won’t like the style. I’m not so sure. The same people who poo-poo’d the commercial on Twitter are the ones going “uh, don’t hate me, but… I don’t hate it?”

It may not appeal to you, and that’s fine. It’s also just a concept. The CT doesn’t appeal to me. That’s also fine.

I’m extremely excited that they are trying something new, because I love watching companies be bold. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s far too early to tell how this will go.

But one thing is for sure: the news of Jaguar’s impending death has been greatly exaggerated. :)

the big flaw in your argument is that the cybertruck sales are not very good, way below expectations and hype will not sustain sales after the intial deliveries

That’s because I don’t think the CT appeals to a wide enough crowd, and many are staying away from Tesla entirely, because of Elon. Tesla sales have dropped across the board, significantly.

We have no idea how wide of a crowd Jaguar’s new cars will appeal to. It’s too early, and they don’t exist yet.

It's the charging port.
Actually after searching around, according to Autoblog and other sites:

The opening door on the front fender dubbed a "Prism Case" houses a "totem". Each totem is made of either brass, travertine, or alabaster and owners can reportedly place it inside the center console to change the cabin lighting and graphics on the dashboard's digital displays. Each totem also plays a unique sound and releases scents inside the cabin.

- Bizarre

Uh... wtf? What even is travertine and alabaster? And a "prism case" with a "totem" inside? Is this Minecraft? 🤣

This is where a chat engine like Grok comes in handy:

What you've described sounds like a fascinating and innovative feature for a vehicle, combining sensory elements like sound, scent, and visual cues to enhance the driving experience. Here's a breakdown of the components:
  1. Material of the Totems:
    • Brass: Known for its durability and aesthetic appeal, brass would give a luxurious and warm look.
    • Travertine: A type of limestone, travertine could offer a natural, earthy feel, potentially with a unique texture or pattern.
    • Alabaster: Typically used in fine art and architecture, alabaster would provide a translucent effect, perhaps allowing light to pass through in interesting ways.
  2. Functional Aspects:
    • Placement in Center Console: This suggests an interactive and customizable element where the totem can be physically inserted or mounted, possibly triggering the car's system to recognize the totem's unique properties.
  3. Sensory Enhancements:
    • Cabin Lighting: Each totem could change the lighting color or pattern inside the car, creating an ambiance that matches the material or perhaps the intended mood or theme of the totem.
    • Dashboard Graphics: The digital displays adapt based on the totem, possibly showing motifs or animations that correspond to the material or cultural significance of the totem.
    • Unique Sounds: This could involve playing ambient music, nature sounds, or culturally significant audio that resonates with the totem's theme or material.
    • Scents: The release of different fragrances would add another layer of sensory experience, potentially linked to the totem's material or cultural symbolism.
This kind of feature would not only personalize the vehicle's interior but also engage multiple senses, making each drive potentially unique based on the totem chosen. It's a blend of technology, art, and sensory design aimed at enhancing the user experience in an innovative way. If this is from a specific car model or manufacturer, it would be interesting to know more about how they integrate these elements technologically and culturally.

I was joking about how “exotic sounding” the materials are, but this was an interesting read. I regularly use LLM’s, but I don’t like using them to replace Google (as in this case). Old at heart, I guess!

Both are common natural stone; travertine is the stone for my coping stones for the pool, and I have tiny (very annoying) alabaster triangle lights all over the exterior. Not my choice. I’m slowly replacing them with acrylic as they fall out of the lights haha

Hopefully, you won't mind a well-intended observation. In my 75 years on the planet, one of the very few things I've managed to figure out is that if I'm asking someone to help me understand what is going too far... I'm already going too far. :)

I fully understand your post and the significance of the passage of time (being 75 years on this planet.)
The significance of the passage of time. So when you think about it, there is great significance to the passage of time...there is such great significance to the passage of time.
And I understand what can be, unburdened by what has been.

I'm sure you understand my post.

My Neorest Toto toilet comes with travertine, or alabaster options.

I really had hoped the heat exchangers had been moved to the rear. That would improve aerodynamics but complicate access to the trunk.

I want to see the actual unveil and not some pirated pictures that looks like something a savvy child could have created based on what was shown a couple of weeks ago.

Also the write up at the link say it's a "four door coupe", yet the pirated pic shows a 2- door coupe.

BTW, wtf is a 4 door coupe? 😂
Does look like it was generated by one of those AI image generators...
