Electrify America charging free?

Perhaps Lucid has sent emails with different language to customers based on there situation. I got 3 years of free charging with my Lucid, which will expire March of 2026. The email sent to me focuses on future idle fees and threatens to rescind my free charging, but only if I fail to add a credit card to cover any future idle fees. Here is what my email from Lucid states (cut and pasted)

Beginning February 5th, 2025, idle fees incurred pursuant to your Electrify America Plan will no longer be waived and you will be responsible for any idle fees incurred while using Electrify America charging locations (prices may vary). Please add a valid credit card to your Lucid Wallet by February 5th to retain your complimentary charging privileges.*

* Your credit card will not be charged during the time your vehicle is enrolled in the complimentary charging program unless you incur idle fees. Idle fees are incurred if a car remains plugged into a charging station for an extended period after charging is complete. To avoid idle fees, please unplug and remove your vehicle from the charging station when charging has finished.

I also received the "Add a credit card" email today. There is so much inconsistency about this "Complimentary EA Charging" offer. Does any owner actually know how many years of free EA charging they have? Does any owner actually know when their free charging plan expires? Where is the best place to verify this? I thought I had three years from the time of delivery (or sale/lease signing). This C&D article is in alignment. But I've seen several sources state "one year" as well. Some even say "Free charging ends with 2024 models"; obviously this wasn't the case since my 2025 is currently on the plan and EA charging works at no cost, without handshake issues, without a mobile app.

Is the email really just telling us to add a card since the plan doesn't cover idle fees? It certainly doesn't read that way, regardless of the header.

(Second Image): "According to the promotion". Another dead end. Where is the official promotion material? I never received a pamphlet or an email detailing the promotion.

When I leased my Touring on July 2024, there were no mention of complimentary EA charging as one of the incentives/offers. I believe there were free EA charging at one point, but they discontinued it, yet some people still received complimentary free charging afterwards. I'm guessing this email is targeted for those who were never meant to receive free charging.

Lucid has offered different complimentary charging plans at different times. The email you received will indicate which plan you are enrolled in and the date it expires. You can also confirm this information within the mobile app as well as your purchase or lease agreement.

That is what my email says as well. Charging is still free until the original end date, just not the idle fees. So you need to add a credit card to cover those, if you incur them. If you don't, there will be no charge.

While I appreciate the reply, the agreement documents make no mention of a complimentary charging plan or its duration/expiration date. Perhaps I was never meant to receive the promotion?

The Lucid App only displays the following:

---
Lucid Charging Plan (not a clickable hyperlink)
Plug&Charge service: Active
Energy cost: Retail rate
Power level: Up to 350 kW
---

Oh well. In any case, I wasn't expecting it to terminate approximately five months & two weeks after delivery. 🤷‍♂️
Those in my position who do not visit the forums will probably be making a call to CS.

Well if it wasn't included in your docs, then you got 5 months of free charging! Count that as a plus.

Yes to be clear, there are two versions of this email.

1) For those of us who are already past our free charging time, it asks for a CC to cover charging AND idle fees

2) for those who still have free charging available, it asks for a CC to cover Idle Fees.

Doesn't seem all that complicated to me...

I really don't see how people are having issues with this.

If you have free charging, nothing has changed. Your expiration date is the same as whatever it was.

Starting Feb 5, they're going to charge for idle time. Good. They should have done that from the get go. No one should be hogging a charger while others need it.

Because of the idle fee change, you need to be sure you have a credit card on file with Lucid (most of us already do if you've ever ordered anything from Lucid's store). Otherwise, they can't charge you idle fees. Thus, they can't let you charge, in case you decide to try to get away with not paying fees.

If you don't want to have a card on file, you're going to lose all ability to have plug and charge when your free time goes away, anyway. Personally, the convenience of plug and charge makes this a no-brainer. If you are paranoid about your credit card number, then just live with the fact that you are forfeiting the remainder of your free charging and you'll have to manually start a charge with EA or whoever every time. Which means giving EA or whoever your credit card.

Either way, someone is getting your card number.

Doesn’t make sense to me. My App used to show that 1 year complimentary EA charging expires on April 9, 2025 since I got the car on April 10,2024. Now it’s showing blank on the app under charging menu. I got this email message today

That part of the app is rather buggy. I wouldn't trust it.

Lucid has your original end date on file. That's the one that counts.

Lucid and bugs go together like software and hardware issues - no surprise after 11 months of ownership and "the robust" bug updates. The email says Feb 5th is when the promotional EA charging ends, but that’s where things get really confusing.

That's not what the email says. Feb 5 is when free idle fees ends. Your free charging plan ends whenever it's supposed to end. Your delivery date + however many years your free charging was.

Or, if you are a really early dreamer, and your free three years is already up technically, then yes. February 5th.

Bought my Air in July 2024 always had free charging but it was not part of written down offer or anything like that. The App used to say 1000kwh or 1 year. I got the email that it is going away on Feb 5th (not just idle charges). I think us freeloaders have Feb 5th as the end date. Thanks Lucid for letting me charge for free until now, even though that was not part of my purchase offer. As a shareholder, I see this as part of additional financial discipline and I am not upset one bit that my free ride is coming to an end. If you are in the same boat as me, you might get the email saying the Feb 5th date.

I don't know if there are people here who fall into a third category, like myself: I leased my GT at the end of 2023 and it came with 3 years of free EA, however my email says that it will end on 5 February. Naturally, I will contact Lucid about this but if someone else has already faced this situation, any input would be much appreciated.

I am in the same boat as you. I think that many are not reading the message correctly. The 3 years of free charging is not ending prematurely. What is changing is that idle fees
will no longer be free. This is very reasonable. If you unplug as soon as your charging ends you will not incur any fees. Lucid needs the credit card on file in the case that you
incur idle fees, not for the charging session itself.

Interestingly, assuming my situation is common, they’ll send you this email even if you already have a cc on file. After reading the email I had to check to make sure I still had one on file. I did.

I did the same thing. Unfortunately emails from company's that do not take into account the recipient's specific situation are common, though in this case the emails *are* specific to the individual, and already have individual data in them (vin, charging end date), so not great that it asks one to add a cc that is already there. Though I suspect they want everyone to know about idle and possible congestion fees so just did it that way. Yep, a bit sub-optimal.

I do notice now that the recently updated app (2.1.0 on IOS at least) does now show the proper EA "service summary" which it did not in the recent app redesign, so that's a plus.

Yes. If you are on iOS, get the latest mobile app. It now correctly shows your end date.

--Strange that the title reflects "managing idle fees easily" but the body contains the "seamlessly pay for charging" and no mention of idle fees. There is no indication that if I put my CC in I will continue my complimentary charging past 2/5/2025. Again, it does say my complimentary charging ends on 2/5/2025 and I only leased the car about 6 months ago at the end of July 2024. C'mon Lucid let's get this right!!!
