Consumer Reports

One odd quirk. I am a CR member and I went to the reports and if I use the search function, I get the Lucid report. But if I go to the ratings chart for electric vehicles, it is not there nor under any other relevant category I can think of. Perhaps it takes a while for the individual report to make it into the chart.

1st thing I noticed in the consumer reports EV comparison is the 'real world' range from full was 344 miles (not 519) for the GT. I have noticed my range is closer to 260 vs. the advertised 410 for my Pure AWD
We already know how to get the epa range if we want to and how speed has impact on the efficiency. As long as charging is not a problem we can choose to compromise range and drive as we please. Safely. Without getting tickets. 😂

Several days later and I can see the reviews with rating of the Lucid Air and the Genesis GV60 by using the CR search button but when I pull up the ratings chart, neither appears although both would be near the top if they did. Weird.

But that torque!! 🤣

EPA range is determined at an average speed close to 40mph. This number has little to do with range at freeway speeds. The EPA needs to specify a different measurement that is more useful to consumers.

Ironic enough my former Bolt was rated 259 miles BUT I often saw 300 miles range in summer so way better than EPA rating. I've NEVER seen above EPA or anywhere close on my Lucid ...just saying

Different tests, as explained a dozen times elsewhere on this forum, just fyi. Search “2-cycle” and “5-cycle” and you’ll find dozens of threads about this very same issue.

^ just frustrating because a HUGE appeal to my buying the LUcid was 410 mile range.. now reality is 260 mile highway range. It is what it is but 3 miles per kWh is my normal for highway

What speeds do you currently go at?

Range goes down roughly with the square of speed.

I totally hear you. I’m not suggesting I love the fact that it’s confusing, by any means.

That said, it’s all about experience and speed. The faster you drive, the lower the efficiency, period - as @DeaneG mentioned, efficiency goes down approximately with the square of your speed, so speed really hurts.

Also, efficiency improves after 2k-3k miles or so.

Also, you get better at learning how to drive it efficiently when needed. :)

Yes. The whole topic of epa vs actual range has been thoroughly discussed.

Agree completely. The Lucid has a ridiculous amount of HP (I am commenting, not complaining). Some here, who care about range, have gotten >4 mkh or higher but that means driving slowly, etc. On the other hand, for some of us, range doesn't matter so I drive my car like I stole it. Much more fun that way.

It is true that the Lucid does not normally get the rated range. But, surprise, neither does anyone else. But with Lucid you are starting at a higher battery point. Others will similarly lose range but that will take them from a lesser number to a much lesser number.

I’ve been reading CR for many years. It’s just one tool to help in the evaluation process. I think they try to be objective, but you know how that goes when humans are involved. They award no points for unique, cool, or sexy, etc. The Jeep Wrangler is a very popular vehicle for reasons CR doesn’t seem to value - it scored a 25.

CR liked blistering acceleration, sharp handling, short braking distances, smooth ride, fit and finish, rear-seat room, and large trunk, did not like electric motor whine, wind noise, unintuitive controls, and restricted outward visibility.

Kinda funny, I actually like to turn off the SSP audio and enjoy the turbofan engine sound in city driving myself, plus the various pilot panel screens, gear selector, directional signal, windshield wipers, audio volume, door locks, window controls, seat adjustments, temp and fan switches, and headlamps are intuitive enough that I haven’t yet needed to read the owners manual.

I do agree about the visibility in terms of parking, if I had a do-over, the DDP with all the cameras would be on my list. Wind noise, strangely enough, seems to come and go even at the same speeds (but easily defeated by the SSP)

The electric motor whine, wind noise, controls, outward visibility are very minor issues in the bigger context. Such nitpicking shows what a great car the Lucid is!

Was that using 19 tires?

CR tested:
2023 Sedan Touring Electric-Cyl 1-Speed Direct
Front Michelin Pilot Sport EV size 245/40R20 99Y
Rear Michelin Pilot Sport EV size 255/40R20 104Y

The bottom line: if you're buying an EV that you want to drive without worrying about hypermiling techniques and still get good range, Lucid will deliver the most. Forget about EPA ratings and advertising hype. Among EVs in the same size class, the Lucid will get you further down the road in any given set of traffic, speed, road, terrain, and weather conditions than any other similar EV.

No reviewer has ever wrung more range out of a directly competing EV than out of the Lucid.
