CarPlay is here! - Megathread

Maybe this is an outlier situation, then. But if it’s not, I’d have to think that would be a major priority bug. Then again, Lucid probably has a massive list of high priority bugs at this point.

I don’t know about Android Auto, but wireless CarPlay uses WiFi, I believe, once the connection is established. So hopefully Bluetooth issues won’t cause similar problems for CarPlay. Unless the Bluetooth screws up the connection process.

Ok, not being able to play music via BT is a major issue if you can only get it to work a tiny fraction of the time. I was OK with having to use my phone via BT to get SiriusXM Radio, but if that doesn’t work…
I fixed it!

All I did was re-pair it once again as audio/phone, and for who knows why, this time it’s working, even though I did it the same way I always do. I’ll see if it lasts when I restart the car.

CarPlay isn’t going to help you when you have no signal for streaming. Unless you’be preloaded the music you want to listen to. In which case, Bluetooth from your phone will work as well.
Yes. I have a ton of preloaded music, so in that regard it will be useful.👍👍👍

I think maybe I’m an outlier? Sometimes it will randomly work but most of the time it won’t. Playing downloaded songs from Apple Music seems to work a little better (maybe 30% of the time?) than using any streaming service, but if I try to play NPR news now off apple podcasts or iHeart radio on my phone, nope, it just spins and spins. I can just say “Alexa play NPR news” and it will then work fine off the car. But most things I try to do via Bluetooth music wise fail. Bluetooth phone calls works ok.
My BT is pretty rock solid (on a Google Pixel 6). Sucks you are having trouble, that would drive me nuuuuuuts.

EDIT: Just saw you might have it working, good luck!

Spoke with a Lucid employee today who is closely involved with software and hardware at Lucid and he ensured me that Apple CarPlay is coming soon. Not sure what "soon" actually means but at least we have confirmation it is coming.
Has he mentioned actual satellite SiriusXM radio?

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me, but I'm just wondering why @ctonylee said he was considering installing an aftermarket SiriusXM setup, but was advised by a Lucid employee "not to do that," that the lack of SiriusXM was "the number one complaint," that that a SirusXM app would be "in the next OTA update." But, who knows, maybe the Lucid employee doesn't know the difference between cellular and satellite service!
Yes. The aftermarket SiriusXM setups I’ve seen include a satellite antenna.

Yeah Bluetooth seems more reliable now. Maybe it just took two weeks of trying the same thing over and over again, and a visit to service for an entirely unrelated problem, to get it to work. 🤦‍♂️ What-evs. I’ll take what I can get. I’ve been getting more and more used to asking Alexa to play various songs/albums anyway, it actually works quite well, certainly better than that stupid square box of crap Amazon made called the FireCube.

I find it comical and, at the same time depressing, that the crappy sub-$500 head unit I installed in my ‘73 Mustang handles BT and playlists better than Lucid. My playlists restart where I left off each time I get back into the car. I have had no issues using the SiriusXM app over BT. And the real kicker, it even has a special plug to make it SiriusXM ready if I wanted to go that route.

Question: Things like android auto or apple carplay, is that something that we can see?

Answer: Absolutely, i mean i think um we're gonna really push particularly on the on the carplay side probably probably that will come first okay but uh so watch this space well you know there are plans to introduce that in the future all right um.

I spoke with their service rep about Bluetooth audio crapping out a lot, and it was a problem (I fixed mine for one day, now it craps out again), and he said they’re working on a software update to fix it. I hope CarPlay comes first but maybe if we can get the Bluetooth streaming more reliable that will fill the gap until CarPlay.

It was at SXSW, which was back in March?
Was the interview from this year? The response makes it sound like CarPlay is something they are in very early days of looking into implementation. I had thought they were way far along in this and basically working on getting it wrapped up. I recall earlier on these forums others had been told by Lucid reps the software is mostly ready but awaiting Apples final approvals/certifications.

It looks like at the recent WWDC in early June Apple did make some significant announcements. I am hopeful Lucid can take advantage of some of them.
I've read a couple of articles now that say not to expect this to happen for years if at all. The fact Apple didn't list anyone that it had partnered with for the initial launch and when press has spoken to automakers the general response is "we'll look at it". There seems to be alot of resistance to automakers giving access to the cars computer in order to present the stats CarPlay needs for this to work. Apple announced EV Routing in Apple Maps 2 or 3 years ago and as of today, Ford and BMW are the only ones that support it

This should show you how reluctant automakers are to hand over the keys to the kingdom so this new CarPlay could be dead on arrival. As much as everyone wants CarPlay in the Lucid, Maps and Google Maps will be useless (unless Lucid follows Ford and BMW) to you unless you plan on entering charging stops manually and bank on the weather being perfect to get from charger A to charger B because if you hit a headwind or increase elevation that drops the range significantly then you'll be dead in the water because those mapping systems won't know the car doesn't have enough range to make it.
