my 2 year old, 4 year old, wife and I went on trip to Joshua tree. In way back home, about 120 miles remaining, heard loud bang like giant pothole

pulled over, tire popped.
2 hr later
Tow truck and uber family to hotel nearby.
Tow guy never seen a tire blow up like this his 30 years of towing. Need to find replacement tire and contact manufacturer if its defect. No way it’s a road hazard right? Side walls are supposed to be the strongest part of the tire.

Based off your pic, looks like you hit something due to the damage on your rim where the hole is.

It is a clean cut pop

It could be a weak side wall of the tire🛞

Never seen something like that myself

Fill us in with what happens with the warranty

I am glad that all of you came away from this ok, this really isn't a Lucid issue, it is a tire issue, you didn't note what tires were on the car or the size of the wheels. did you regularly monitor your tire pressures? like others have noted there must have been something external to the tire to cause such a failure.

Probably a combination of hitting something and perhaps a defect on that particular tire? I agree, it's a weird looking pop.

I'm very curious what Lucid or Pirelli would have to say.

why do you believe that Lucid would have anything to say regarding a tire failure?

Just curious. I'm not an expert on tire failure. Ultimately, it's Pirelli's responsibility if the tire did have a defect. But Lucid may help confirm that. I'd imagine they'd at least want the report, for the record. Maybe they've seen something similar before?

Old thread, but fwiw. Had a mini version of this happen this weekend. My divot of missing sidewall was 1.5 x .375 inches. 21" Pirelli of course. LM1 with 12k.

Hit a deep missing section of asphalt roadway at 75. Loudest pothole bang I ever heard. But no loss of pressure. Then 25 miles later, KABOOM. Tire blows. Was surprised the tire did not shred.

Honestly, no passenger car tire could have survived.

Fronts now have LM2s. And for what it's worth, my Discount Tire manager said the company has not seen a noticeable reduction in 21" Lucid sidewall failures with the 21s

Blessings again to @Bobby for suggesting Certificates, which I got hours after getting the car. 🙏

Sadly, I am on a first name basis with everyone at my DT shop. A bit like Cheers.... But no beer.

Sidewall is the weakest part of a tire. You can try to get pirelli or whoever made the tire to warranty it. The shop you go to will need to sell that brand and they will need to submit the claim. It’s not something that is typically honored as they will claim you ran over something. No way to prove you didn’t.

i forgot to update what happened. the next day, I call around, price range was anywhere from 50$ to 1000$. Some places will only do them in pairs.

I went to the 50$ guy to get off brand temporary solution; used tires in correct size to drive home. Took my time to order matching tire replacement when I got home.

Called manufacturer, they said I had to go through authorized retailer to make claims. Since I no longer have the old tire and Lucid said not our problem, I just moved on.

Everyone I talked to said this is a defect, including the tire shops, but not worth the fight.

Appreciate the follow up!

First thing I thought is "what size tire?": but photo shows 19" Lucid wheel so it must be factory Pirelli P Zero All Season tires 245/45 R19 102Y

Looking for rim damage = do not see anything ( these rims are soft). should check opposite side for bend (look carefully)

also I was wondering tire pressure... setting 49 psi cold then driving to Joshua could easily see 55 + psi... that should still be OK but ... I haven't heard of tire bubbles on the 19" ... most likely something on the road cut the tire - hole is unusual which implicates defect? ... would love to know how.

most surprising thing is it's not the 21" tire. My set will probably last the season so I'm thinking of buying a set of forged Dream Edition wheels for my next set...if the car comes with them so be it.
