Reservation Cancellations feedback

I have a reservation for a Pure at a price of $77,400. I am reasonably certain the car will not be built/purchased by 12/31/2022. If I get a call or email from Lucid in, say, May of 2023 I will tell them I will only consider purchasing the vehicle if they reduce the price to $69,900. I know there is very little chance Lucid will drop the price, but I don't think I'll look like a fool for asking. It's not my fault if Lucid misses the 12/31/2022 deadline for a tax credit and $69.9 is my cap. Any higher than $69.9 and a VW ID4 is a better option for me.
Therefore there is VW ID4 option.

There is no way they’ll drop the price.
I bet a significant portion of the 34,000 reservation holders were attracted by $69,900. I expected to see less than 30,000 people convert their reservations into actual orders eventually.

And polestar 2 as well at a lower price point and lower range. They may even have some in stock. So, whatever works for you is best for you.

I agree. I also have a pre price change reservation on a Pure. For me, I prefer a metal roof (both functionally and appearance) and if I am going green, I prefer not to have leather. I have been on the fence about DD Pro and the major reason for going there has been the 360 camera. If they offer that as a separate option, I would probably go for it.

We already have a $10K price reduction. One would pay in the $ 60s for a non luxury BEV with a range of 250-300 miles. Instead, paying $77 K for a luxury vehicle with an EPA range of 400 miles seems like a no brainer to me.

But honesty is important to me. If Lucid goes back on its representations and promises (such as by materially reducing the HP on the Pure), I will be out of here. Once I can't trust a vendor, I don't deal with that vendor. But as of now, I have no reason to distrust Lucid.

So with or without the tax credit, I am staying.

I'll take some of whatever he is smoking...

Yes, fully loaded 66k Polestar 2 look attractive. I would rather have that than VW ID4 or M3P.

My biggest issue as of now is the highway assist without DDP. Its a feature i use daily with my Model Y, it is just frustrating that when we did the initial order we were specifically told it would be included.

I love the Car, the looks, the luxury. I always have driven German and have a tesla, I Hate the cheap feel of the tesla inside, the loud wind noise and overall drive. However, again highway assist (auto pilot) is a big deal to me and it seems to be a big deal to a lot of people here. Paying 9k to have the option that should be included in a 50k car let alone 100k+ car is frustrating, especially due to the fact it was told it would be included until recently.

Do not get me wrong i am not saying the car is bad, its actually amazing. I just really hope they include the feature as i know they haven't even produced any cars without DDP. IF they keep receiving feedback from there reservation holders, i can see them making a change instead of losing a lot of us.

My estimate out of 34k current reservations is 20% high end about 7k (Saphire, GT) Tier 2 10% 4k (Touring), Tier 3 30% 10k (Fully loaded Pure), Base 40% 13k. Most cancellations are likely in the Base Pure. As people look at alternatives and realize that they have to wait till late 23 or even 24 anyway with other choices, I think we will see some of them come back.

Seems reasonable.

Hmm...

Given that Lucid had no control on changes made to the EV Credit laws and never made any promise about a "12/31/2022 deadline", I wouldn't be so sure about this.

If I were you, I wouldn't wait. It sounds like there won't be a Lucid in your future and that's okay.

When I reserved the car in early May, the projected delivery was 3Q2022. It's not Lucid's fault the tax credit is ending. But it is Lucid's fault the car wasn't delivered. I have nothing to lose so I'm gonna keep my deposit open in the 1% chance Lucid will be so desperate for a sale that they would be willing to honor the $69.9k price. But yeah, there is a 99% chance I won't be driving a Lucid.

Side question -- is there any chance a RWD Pure base vehicle could be delivered prior to 12/31/2022?

If there is such thing as reincarnation, you must be a pro bono jester in your past life.

Now I'm a little worried... When you say "If I were you, I wouldn't wait" are you concerned Lucid is having liquidity problems and won't be able to refund my deposit if I wait?

Well...

No, he's saying no matter what happens you won't be satisfied and will purchase whatever else you're looking at instead.

It seems like you’ve only done a very cursory review of your options. There’s a reason there are a lot of ID4s on dealer lots. I’m sure you can swing a good deal for one. As with most purchases, just do your due diligence and I think you’ll make a different choice. But you kind of lost credibility by saying the VW was option 2.

I was disappointed to see that Highway Assist and surround cameras were only included in DDP which I had not built in my Pure design. I was so upset that I added DDP to my Pure configuration. I then decided I really wanted that glass roof but gosh I can't get it for free? Well rather than cancelling I upgraded my order to a fully loaded Touring and the original pricing. I was disappointed to loose the $7,500 tax rebate. I was disappointed to see that the Pure dash has fabric on it but it didn't matter because I ordered exactly what I wanted. Is it way more $ than I originally thought I would spend? Yes. I made an informed decision and upgraded my order to exactly what I want. If I didn't want to spend the extra $ I could have stayed with a Pure or waited for the Cadillac LYRIQ I have on order which will qualify for some sort of tax credit next year ( it has massage seats, apparently lousy, but it has them). At the end of the day I paid for what I wanted. Simple really. Not worth ranting about.

The ID4 makes me sad to look at, and then you look at the software that VW was like “uhhh yep! That’s as good as it’s gonna get!” And it makes it downright depressing.
And then them giving 3 years of unlimited charging and telling them they can achieve 350 kW charging makes me 🤬

310 miles (Kia EV6 GT range) times $209/mile ~= $65K. That's a pretty simplified way to calculate a comparison, I think: how much are you paying for a car's range. I use something more like total cost of ownership over the period of time I'd use the car, with a specific per-year mileage, fuel/charging costs, insurance, maintenance costs, purchase price, taxes, and expected resale value at the end of the ownership period. What doesn't factor in well is the cost per smile, when you really enjoy something about the car.
Respectfully, this is ridiculous way to compare cars. By your metric, everyone would drive a Prius.
