Lucid Air Touring or Tesla Model S LR

For DeaneG:

I thought the same thing. Lucid tire has 3cm foam inside the tire and the Lucid Service told me that the tires need replacement and cannot be repaired.

I will post a picture of inside the tire soon.
Wait, this doesn't make sense when they sell a tire repair kit to help get you to nearby place, unless you mean a permanent repair

The tire repair kit is a temporary solution. I believe it would inflate the tire if the defect is less than .24 inch, probably with gel.

You can drive upto 50 miles at a speed of 50M/Hr to the nearest auto shop. Then the Lucid Service will send you a new tire on your request.

Lucid repair kit is not a permanent solution.

With the speed limit of 50 miles/hr, I'm concerned about safety when on freeway.

One can get by with flashers on at 50m/hr on highway in an emergency.

However that WILL NOT solve your situation unless you have your own spare.

This morning in my ‘19 SL550, with no spare, and on I-10 here in Texas had a 150 pound block of roofing tar come out of a trailer in front of me. It skidded past the rear tire and tore a huge chunk out of the tire at 70 mph. Sat for 2-1/2 hours waiting for the AAA flat bed to get the car home. No run flat or the tire kit I have in the trunk would have been a help. I hate not having a spare tire!

Hi , sorry for my delayed response, it’s been an insane week and your new car required some research. Ok, I am going to give you lots of info on your super cool new Lucid with two sizes of 21” wheels. I want you to open all the screenshot attachments as you have choices on spare sizes from us. Having 2 different tire sizes makes it slightly more complicated. We match our wheel and tire to the diameter of your factory tire in order to get an appropriate size for a 2022 vehicle that has very sensitive electronics to any variances in tire sizes.

I recommend our 20” x 5” alloy spare with our Toyo tire size 195/55R20. See the screenshots, the (716) is an almost perfect match in diameter and the front tire(712)is a 3.3% variance, which the OEMs tell us to stay at 5% and below. This is a Toyo tire with a 15,000 mile warranty, is 28.4” in diameter by 7.7” wide.

Choice number 2 #715 rear variance comparison is with our 145/60R20 compact spare, it is less wide than the 195 is 4.9% variance. Screenshot 717 with your front tire is an almost perfect match.

Either way, you have a choice, both are $389 plus shipping and both are in stock, we have a 10 100% money back guarantee. Please let me know your questions and thanks for letting me know this car is now on the market.

Would love to have a spare option from you guys, but you might have to call the manufacturer. Many of the owners of this new car are looking for a spare option.

Reading all these posts I feel like I need a spare now haha, never had any issues in any of my cars up to this point...

So from her email, sounds like 716 is the way to go?

I must have been an unlucky one.

I had so many flat tires on highways. Most of my cars in past had full spares. Since I had Models S, I carried a full spare. With Lucid I didn't till I got into trouble.

It is always safe to carry a full spare, I believe.

You can repair it temporarily. You cut out a small section of the foam and use a standard repair kit; I had previously confirmed this with service. It will just “thunk” a bit as it rolls and as such isn’t a permanent solution.

As for *permanent* repair, you can’t. For that you need a new tire, due to the foam.

I wonder at what point in tread wear you’d need to replace more than the one damaged tire due to difference in tire diameter between new and old tires. Or would Lucid service shave the new tire for you?

These tires cost about $500+ to replace.

Just for a nail puncture, it is a very expensive repair.

Good point.

Anyone know?

Good point.

Anyone now?
Some but not all auto manufacturers specify a max tread depth difference left-right. Tire Rack will shave a tire you order for about $30. Custom shops local to me charge about $70.

Can current owners confirm if a full-size spare will/will not fit in the trunk?
Thanks.

Yes, I think the 716 would be the way to go. I have not ordered one yet as I still have no idea when I am going to get my Grey/Mojave that I confirmed mid-November.

That email was from 2/10/22. She is very accessible so you could always call her to confirm. I really liked the product they sent me for my Mustang.

Tesla Model S 19" tire fits well within the trunk.

Tesla 21" front wheel should fit in the trunk as well. Mine is in the garage and just got the wheel cover. When I store it in the trunk, I will post it.

Sent her an email to order a spare. When I get it I will try and put it in the frunk

Too bad I don’t have a car yet or I would see if I can put my Mustang spare in there.

I wouldn't advise mixing different wheels or tires.
