Trying to Decide: Differences Between Touring and Pure and 2025 model questions

Ah, ok. Bummer, but not the end of the world. I’ve been using my apple watch instead- have a shortcut to the app on my watch face. Actually, I wonder if I can make shortcuts for direct frunk/trunk actions.

I wish there was an easy way to compare the features on Pure vs the GT. You know, like most other manufacturers do on their website. I am thinking of leasing a 2026 Pure for wife, but I don't know what I'm going to miss.

"Well, Sir, you should have known that the Pure doesn't come with backseats. It's there, in the fine print."

They do have a comparison on their website that just compares features but I may be missing your point. In case I'm not, the link is here.

I have a 2025 Pure. I recently drove a 2025 Touring for 2 1/2 weeks. While I enjoyed the glass canopy (major model difference not available with the Pure), I prefer my Pure. It’s just more enjoyable to drive. I find it more responsive, smoother, quieter, cozier and accelerates just as fast.
Thanks! I have pretty much decided on the Pure (don't need AWD in southern California and the Pure seems plenty fast/ my Model S has given me my fill of sudden acceleration/ hurts after a while especially when your old like me). I know you don't have an older model to compare it to but how has your experience been with the quality of the 2025 Pure? Have you had any issue with door locks/ unlocks or rattles or fitment issues?

Thanks again.

Good choice! Absolutely love the 2025 Pure! Quality car. Quality company. More important than trim level, speed and specs is feeling safe and protected in a well-built car — that is Lucid for me. Sure, I’ve had some issues that have momentarily frustrated me and that’s ok and expected for any company. How a company responds is the true test of quality and I can honestly say that Lucid is miles of everyone else.

No issues w/ doors locking/unlocking (no pretending to make phone calls while waiting, lol). Door handles pop out well in advance of me reaching the car and as backup, I quickly click the key fob if needed. Though many advise against this, I use both the mobile key and key fob together. My key fob is attached to my phone case w/ the valet card inside. No rattling and no fitment issues.

Hope this helps!

I have to say, the door unlock issue is genuinely holding me back from being confident I’ll lease another Air when my current one runs out.

Thank you, I missed that completely. My bad. It seems that the only thing I cannot get on Pure (that I care about) is the powered frunk, which is not a big deal, because the close-only power function is far less useful than the open power function would be.

Also, FWIW, less worry about the mechanism flaking out and leaving you unable to access the frunk out of the blue. It seems likely that a simple latch is more able to be futzed with on your own, rather than needing a service center visit.

You're right, but that's a concern I never had before on any other cars with powered trunks. Based on what I read, this might be another specific Lucid thing, where the power frunk fails and/or needs realignment.

I've noticed recently that the frunk makes this groaning/creaking noises when it closes, like a ship in a storm, or a submarine under pressure. Also, when the car flexes, I can hear the groaning again. Most probably the frunk alignment is off.

I just picked up a Touring last month. Have driven BMW M cars and had a Tesla a while ago. Lucid Air is an amazing car. Very well thought out. Drives incredibly well. Only regret I have is not getting the comfort and convenience package as the doors are hard to close without soft close and the wind noise is much louder without it. LOVE my massage seats, glass canopy roof, pro sound and 21” wheels tho!!!

That's interesting because I've also recently noticed a creak both at front and back of the car when the chassis is flexing. I think it is the front and trunk movable pieces. It's not enough to make an early service appointment but I'm definitely going to have them look at it at the 1 year visit. My only other issue has been that the roof rack covers are junky plastic pieces and I've already lost 1 in a car wash. I know the manual doesn't recommend automated car washes but it's pretty ridiculous. The responsiveness via phone for unlock and lock increased dramatically for me after the most recent app update. As long as you wake your phone when approaching, there's really no issue for me anymore.

Re the OP's questions, I got a 2025 Pure in March with the prior similar stacking incentives lease deal. I came from two prior Model 3's (a performance and a base). The best way to describe the Lucid is that the fit and finish and driving are overall immeasurably better than Tesla absent the above quirks I mentioned. After 6+ years with a glass roof, I was looking forward to not having one here in Miami. Although it's just now getting on to summer, I'm already loving my non-glass roof as the AC is not as strong as Teslas. BTW, my Pure came with all the surround cameras and was built in December 2024. I do miss the equivalent of basic autopilot in the Tesla though. It doesn't come with that. I havent driven a Touring but I did drive a Grant Touring pre-release demo. Make no mistake the GT is way faster but I was surprised at the pep in the Pure. Note it does have a launch control feature as well which get's you 0-60 in the low -ish 4s.

The easiest way to describe the tech situation is imagine Tesla say about 8 years ago or so. It's good, but lots of improvement needed, much how the Tesla software matured along the way. There are some obviously things like valet mode, dashcam, etc that need to be implemented. I'm sure they will be over the coming years. CarPlay is an advantage over Tesla though in my book.

I know that was a bit of a meandering answer but I think I covered everything coming form a similar background as you. Short answer: either are great cars and you can't beat the current deal. Go for it!

So the double-pane glass is in the comfort package?

Yes I didn’t realize that unfortunately. I’m in South Texas so didn’t need rear heated seats and privacy screens were not a priority for me, but the wind noise is significantly worse without it and my kids have a hard time closing the front doors properly without soft close. Still love this car. Those are minor annoyances.

Not having the double pane glass is a deal-breaker to me. I had on on all my cars in the last 15 years or so.

I've had a 2024 Pure (leased) for about 10 months/11K miles. I've had zero issues with creaks or fit/finish and the only time it went to the service center was for a wiring harness recall.

WRT the doors, I'd say that about half of the time they open before or right when I get to them and the other half I have to wait a couple of seconds. In very rare cases it might take too long and I'll just unlock it with the fob. It's at worst a very minor annoyance. Some people have suggested that if you have only your phone it's more responsive, but I'm too paranoid to not carry about the fob as well.

Other annoyances:
  • I used to get a bunch of false error messages about turn signal and light failures, but it's been months since I've seen one (may have been fixed by a SW update). I still get messages saying that Driver Monitoring isn't working. I've had that turned off since Day 2 (because it's awful) so I don't know why I get randomly notified about it.
  • The collision avoidance system will occasionally have false positives which result in a loud alarm and the car panic stopping. It doesn't happen during proper driving but sometimes while backing out of the driveway or in a parking lot.
  • The rocker button on the steering wheel that controls the audio volume is so slow to respond that it's effectively unusable. The one in the center of the dash is perfect though.
  • If you fast charge at >125kW for any sustained period of time, a very loud fan/motor will spin up, presumably to keep the battery at the right temp. It doesn't stop after you unplug either, it just goes until the car decides it's not needed. It's probably the thing I dislike the most about my car.
None of those are deal breakers in my opinion and I have absolutely no regrets. If I had a chance to do it all over, I would still get an Air Pure 100% of the time, although I might have shelled out for the ventilated, massage seats and the 20" wheels. I didn't realize at the time that the 19" wheels came with all season tires, but even with the "crappy" tires the car feels great in corners.

Don't tell the CHP, but there's a low-traffic freeway onramp near my house and every morning around 6:30 AM, I take the left turn onto it as hard as possible to get the rear end to step out a bit and then floor it. I get a special kick out of pulling enough lateral G to make the car think it's running out of wiper fluid. It's one hell of a car.

I don't see anything about cars without the comfort and convenience package not having double-paned glass, and that would be the first I've heard of it.

Comfort & Convenience Package with Pure includes:
  • Soft-close doors
  • Heated rear seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Four-zone climate control
  • Power rear & rear side window sunshades

Does it say somewhere anything about the availability of double-paned on Pure?

No, which is why I would assume it is double-paned everywhere. I do not think it is an option, and I suspect @ScottLucid's wind noise issues are for a different reason.
