I think the hard reality is that the Air isn't quite ready for delivery, but Lucid found themselves boxed in by two things. (1) With the possibility of the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in the offing, Lucid had to begin customer deliveries before November in order to quality for the award, which it viewed as a critical public validation of the car's merits. (2) In an effort to calm investors after missing the promise of Q2 deliveries, Lucid assured investors that cars would be delivered by year end. With a stock price now in the equation and more eyes on the company, Lucid saw the consequences of yet another delivery miss as inflicting wider reputational damage than a premature release of the car with a few missing features that could be added later.
I'm not worried that Lucid won't get the ADAS system up and running at some point before too long, but I can't shake the notion that we're seeing a symptom of a premature release of the car.
