OTA 1.2.11

Yeah mesh networks are great. I have a proper Ubiquiti system set up at home, but that’s because I have a ton of stairs, and I like managing my network / have lots of stuff going on. :)

For someone who just needs pretty fast wifi with great coverage, a mesh like Eero or Orbi is great; keep in mind it prioritizes coverage over speed, but otherwise fantastic.

Using Ubiquiti too, interesting...
I also have a Ubiquiti system at home - I just need to add another node to the network. It's a good system, I just never thought about the need for a strong wifi connection in my garage. Live and learn!

Go into settings turn power from auto to high

I used their “plug into an outlet” extender and it works great in my garage and laundry room, with a wireless uplink to the nearest hardwired access point.

At some point, I’ll upgrade mine to WiFi6 but meh.

Using Wi-Fi 6 much improved performance

I would try going into power settings in your controller for the WAP and turn it to HIGH. Could save you some money. If that doesn't work them purchase.

Interesting - I've read several posts in the Ubiquiti forums that say Auto is the same as High. Never hurts to try, though. Thanks for the heads up!

I can't find it in the app, but I read somewhere that the WAP does two things changes channel or strength if other WAP are nearby.

I have a rather dumb question after reading all these informative posts. I was planning on having my car ( to be delivered Tuesday ) in my detached garage , which has quite a weak signal. My wifi in general sucks here and there aren’t many option for me to improve it. I could put an Orbi in the detached garage but I doubt it will drastically improve it.
I am now thinking I should use my attached garage for the car , as the signal is much more robust.
Is Wi-Fi capability only relevant when there are updates or are their other things I should consider?
Thanks again to everyone who provide so much information here. These are issues I likely would have never even thought about until I encountered a problem.

You don't NEED wifi for anything. Updates might come in slower (just a slower download, maybe a day delay).

I have updated over both WiFi and the car’s own cellular. I have not had issues with either

Wifi helps with downloads. That's all.

You could use your phone as a hotspot, connect that to the car as a "Wifi", and it will suffice as well.

There are other advantages of using mesh. (You can look them up. Don't want to list them here & get off-tracked from OP thread.)

Thanks. I was concerned about the potential for a slow download getting interrupted or not being able to complete and whether that could potentially trigger a problem. That scenario has happened to me in a work setting and can be frustrating, likely because of my technological incompetence.

What I would also recommend is after you get the car park in the detached garage close the door, then look at the cell signal strength indicator on the right screen at the top. If you have 3 or more bars you're golden.

Excellent, thank you

It's so weird when I was sitting in car with it on the first time with garage door closed coming from ICE. 🤣

I had several download OTA without WiFi turned on. You are fine.

I've yet to connect my car to Wi-Fi. You'd hope they aren't doing some sort of back door using phones credentials to log in. Our Miele dishwasher did this...

I turned WiFi off to optimize Air’s lagginess when passing thru areas with free WiFi or at home login in. Somehow I believe when the car switching from cellular to WiFi or vice versa, it slows down at connection.

Is option to turn Wi-Fi off still in settings? After 1.2.11 I couldn't find it, or had it been a snake...
