Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Touring

The guy was getting kinda pushy about trying to switch me to another color but if I’m spending over $100k on a car I don’t want a color I don’t like…I’m not even wild about the two tone color from front to back, seems gimmicky to me, but whatever I just love black int. I’ve just been obsessed with cars my whole life and this is the inflection point where cars are merging to become like iPhones and I can never quiet get across the line
I have similar feelings about a $100k+ car and no damn massaging seats! It's not even an option which I still think is ridiculous!

I'm literally not paying the Rep's any mind on this. I'd rather stick with what the legal team put out in August. In any case, we'll find out soon enough.
Ya I hear ya, just more 💩to sift through

This is exactly what the rep said is no longer an option and they are offering full refunds on deposits now. Call your rep if delivery is goin past 12/31/22, that’s what I was told idk what else to say…he said it changed

We may not have been eligible from the start given the deposit was much less than 5% of the purchase price. We'll see what the IRS allows. I plan to claim the credit but will be prepared to pay if the IRS deems me ineligible.

As for Q1 Mojave...the June 2023 delivery scenario is if they start assembling your car in March 2023 and take a full three months to deliver to you. At the rate they are making cars currently it's a reasonable guess your delivery will be earlier than that as long as you've already confirmed your options.

My reading of the language indicates to me that the 5% down payment is required to claim DAMAGES but not for entering the binding contract which is what we did when we converted our reservations to non-refundable.

No argument, but considering the constant milestone misses as as company I’m not counting on January…I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility for the car to be in my hands until the second half of 2023, which is just completely out of the realm of what I thought was possible when this all started, had I known what I do now I would have def made diff decisions but given the market conditions and what I want I’m in a very tough spot and it feels like A: I’m not alone in this based on what I’m reading in the forums and B: lucid knows this and is taking advantage of it

I hear you. When we file our taxes which we usually do in February of the new calendar year, we'll be claiming the credit. We'll know soon enough.

My understanding is that Lucid reduces the cost factor by $7500 for a lease. By going in that direction, the credit becomes Lucid's issue, not yours.

I don't lease cars ever. It's not my thing at all. I don't Iike the restrictions.

To Lucid's credit they are being transparent about how different options/colors will affect delivery schedule. There were a lot of complaints from DE buyers about the delay in Zenith Red. Likewise there were may complaints from GT buyers about Santa Cruz interior, Grey and Silver exterior. We may not like the impact on on our preferred options/colors, but at least Touring buyers can make an informed decision about switching options to improve delivery schedule.

That’s an interesting point, I wonder if you leased it rolled the credit into the lease does that mean you don’t have to pay sales tax on it when you buy out the lease? What would make this actually provocative would be if they gave the grandfather pricing in the lease buy out…that’s an interesting position…anyone have any thoughts on this before we all start inundating our reps with questions about leasing and grandfather pricing??? 🤣🤣

I see your point but those are for quality control issues, pain is a more complicated process to perfect especially for the metallic finishes, faux leather is alllll the same

I couldn't agree more. I got lucky that I actually want Santa Cruz. But if I had wanted Mojave, I would have waited, just like you. Way too much money being spent to end up with something you don't like.

You know I haven't thought about this until now, but the new rules for tax credits on EV's include an earnings qualifier if I remember right. No idea how that will get rolled into a lease?

Nothing faux about Lucid's leather. Unless you go for the PurLuxe option, or are getting a Pure.

I would not assume Lucid will still roll that $7500 into the lease after January 1. They only did that because they were able to claim the tax credit. They won't be able to next year.

This is probably the oldest debate on this forum. Several threads about it. Never any definitive answer.

Bottom line, people will do what they will, accountants will advise what they will. It's all dependent on what the IRS says in the end.

But the fact that Lucid is now telling folks they can have their deposits back if they want is not a good sign. Their tax specialists evidently think differently now than they did back in August.

Again, that would be Lucid's issue, not ours.

Insider IRS knowledge? As far as we know. The IRS hasn't issued any guidance right?

Yeah, which I wonder if they discontinue the Tour, than what about resale value? I eventually plan on upgrading to the Gravity. I wonder if Lucid allows trade ins.

But otherwise yeah, I may bite the bullet and just get fully loaded. From what I've heard from people in the forums using highway assist, it's really really good even now.
Tesla does not allow trade-ins because they are not a dealership, direct sales model. I imagine the same will be true for Lucid.

No, they haven't. But accountants talk to other accountants. And they have friends in the IRS. They can sense which way the wind is blowing.
