Mobile key unlocking delay

I have had the same issue since receiving the car Aug 2022. I have reported it to service multiple times. They have checked the car out multiple times…MobileTech and when high voltage battery replaced gratis at service center. Each time, they tell me there is no issue. Sometimes it’s just slow to wake up. The most recent recommendation was to “turn off passive unlock” and just press the handle to open.

Very silly (and frustrating) issue for such an expensive vehicle.
I remember the first year and a half (I’ve had the car 3.5 years) they would tell me others didn’t have the problem. Infuriating. Still doesn’t work and I’ve completely given up. No more fight in me on this issue. It is what it is.

I have Dream edition and this continues to be my major complaint. They won’t fix it…I convinced they can’t unless they replace the parts (redesigned parts). I hate it intensely esp when I find myself standing next to the door on the street as traffic zips by, inches away.
It's a real problem. Sadly, those who don't experience it think that those who do experience it are whiners. Some of them who don't agree with us are very influential on this forum. I worry that those attitudes take away from Lucid realizing how serious a problem this is.

Everybody realizes it’s a serious problem and nobody here likes it. Lucid is aware it is a major issue.

I had been thinking that our fabs have been more reliable than our phones as mobile key. But lately the fob hasn't been great either. I wind up standing around, then press the door handle in, wait a bit more, then the car wakes.

I had to wait a full minute the other day with the mobile phone in hand and the Lucid app active on the screen. Wouldn't unlock using the mobile key OR the app. Went to get the valet card out of my wallet but the doors unlocked before I could use it. I was pretty frosted and, per Marquie's suggestion, let Customer Care know as a data point. I got a survey from Lucid a week ago and was asked on a scale of 1-10 how likely was I to recommend Lucid to others. Gave them a 5 and cited the ongoing crappy unlocking experience as the reason. Oh, this was at the grocery store with a Tesla in the space opposite me. Sure the Tesla owner had a good laugh while I was standing there.

Wait a second--you've got $100k+ cars that won't unlock properly? You've got to get Farraday pouches and do other nonsense? This would drive me absolutely crazy. How can this even be a problem in this day and age? I have been pretty much planning to buy an AGT but this gives me serious concern. I mean ever time you try to unlock the car? Geez.

Not every time, sometimes. It's not ideal, but for most users the rest of the car more than makes up for it.
If this is the kind of thing that would give you fits, look elsewhere.

I wonder if comments like this lead Lucid to think that this is not a serious problem. This is something that buyers find out about after they take delivery of the car. Can you imagine what this would do to sales if every potential customer was told, "Please be aware that for some people, the car may not unlock for about 40 seconds. But it's not a problem for all customers and it's not all the time."

I don't think so - I'd guess Lucid management is still painfully aware of the problem, but are solving other issues more cortical to the company's survival. Pretty much every early reviewer of the Air mentioned occasional problems entering the car. It became a running joke.

For me, it's not the most troubling thing about the car - this category is led by the Air's lack of class-leading built-in navigation, and no way to avoid it, with Android Auto still MIA. Yes, mobile key / fob glitches certainly annoy me from time to time depending on my mood and the weather.

I just re-read this whole thread again and honestly I'm pretty shocked.

The most awkward times for me are like what happened this afternoon outside a courthouse. An older lawyer getting into a Honda minivan looked over at me and said “that’s a great car”…. As I was standing there for like 15 seconds trying to get my door to unlock. I mean what do you say in that situation? I just always say “thanks” and move on. Once I’m back on the road I’m happy again

I've been battling this (door unlock) problem for as long as I've owned the car (2.5 years). Without exaggeration, I've experienced all of the unlocking problems documented in this forum including being locked out of my AGT at a charging station stop and had to call Lucid's hotline to unlock.

I don't want to rehash all my encounters. Let me post a few "food-for-thought" for this thread's audience.

> on paper, you have 6 "different" EXTERNAL unlocking mechanisms vis-a-vis, [1] key FOB, [2] key FOB with no battery (RFID) [4] Mobile Key on your phone (BT), [4] Mobile APP (WiFi?), [5] Valet key (RFID), and [6] Call Lucid to unlock (phone).

Time to unplug from the forum, and go take a test drive somewhere beautiful.

Q: Do you think these 6 methods are independent of each other? Surely, one of these 6 methods must work, right?

> Well, I am not so sure. I believe when car is locked, the "solenoids" in the doors are toggled to mechanically latch the doors. I think it is a safety requirement. And these solenoids are actuated by a signal from the computer when the computer detects one of the 6 unlocking requests. Hence, there is STILL ONE POINT OF DELAY OR FAILURE that affects all of these unlocking methods. Sometimes is a delay. Sometimes it won't unlock at all!

> Separately, there is indeed one "independent" unlocking mechanism that does not go through the computer, the lever in your door arm-rest. This, I believe, is mechanically actuated and will unlock the door even if there is no computer or no power. But you can only access this level when you are (already) inside the car. I believe this is an independent safety requirement to enable the occupant to exit the car in case of an emergency.

> I don't have a circuit diagram of Lucid's unlocking mechanisms. I am only making educated guesses. Feel free to contradict me and offer an alternative explanation.

> if my assumptions has merit, the 6 different unlocking mechanisms are not truly independent.

> my believe these pesky unlocking problem we encountered relates to the car's computer, most likely software problems. For example, my unlocking problem gets better/worse after some software updates. No rhythm or reason.

I don't think the unlocking problems are getting the priority of attention from Lucid. It is very annoying as they kept recurring (different manifestations) and the owners encounter the problems multiple times in a day.

I hope Lucid take this concern seriously.

No point in adding fuel to the fire, I think everyone understands and is aware of it.

To prospective buyers, yes Lucid is aware of this, and this has been fixed on the Gravity with a complete overhaul of the key fob. They've heard the complaints on the Air fob and are improving on it for the Gravity. Now, will us Air owners get an updated retrofit key fob to address our issues? Time will tell.

The key FOB on the Air is a disaster (battery drain, etc.). But the unlocking problem is much broader than just the key FOB. Perhaps it has been rectified on the Gravity. I will believe it when I see it.

Exactly my thoughts. It’s a problem, let’s face it.
I am not trying to dismiss your pain, but the solution is simple although I understand it’s hardship for most people in this day and age: Pull up you phone, app, and press unlock button. I can cope. I totally understand this a hardship for most people in 2025, but, for me, although not ideal, it works. And I am not inconvenienced too much. Please forgive me for being so old fashioned.

By the way, I have zero issues with the key fob in my pocket. It’s instantaneous. However, I totally understand why keeping key fobs in the pocket weighing multiple ounces (grams) in the pocket is so bad. I hear you. I sympathize with you

Just so I understand, your unlocking with the fob works all the time?

Yes. Is that rare? I did not know
My fob has generally worked fine in the past. Just lately the car has sometimes lagged a bit at unlocking.
Online forums amplify problems.
