Gravity Delivery Discussion

Dude, I just violated my own rule I had made for myself. Natick had a Black/Tahoe DE getting prepped to deliver to an owner in Germany I saw today, and it looked SOOOOO GOOOOD that I switched my order on the spot from Green/Tahoe to Black/Tahoe. I’ll put up with the need to clean it every few days, it just looks staggering in person. I swore I’d never own a black car but it’s too seductive. It’s literally what Darth Vader would drive.
Black is a lot of work! I have a black Taycan now and I am washing it all the time, but it's a cathartic thing for me and I enjoy it. I'll enjoy washing the Gravity often as well!

I assume that the HUD reflections are visible whether the HUD is on or off?

in our car it remained when I toggled the HUD on and off. I drove the car this morning during a rainstorm with alternating patches of heavy rain and clear blue sky. The spot remained although it did vary in intensity with changes in sunlight levels.

Stupid question, so apologies in advance, but Is there maybe a protective blue plastic film still attached to the HUD?

That crossed my mind after I dropped the car off at the PPF shop. I'll check for that when we get the car back. I would hope that the prep team would have removed any film that might have been there, but they missed a couple of other things, such as an air vent that blows defroster air up the driver's side A pillar that was sticking up. (I was able to pop it back in place myself and hope it holds.)

Can you adjust the HUD brightness or make other changes?

There is a brightness slider, but I did not notice any difference in the HUD image brightness as I moved it back and forth. It also had no effect on the reflection.

Our Black/Stealth Gravity DE was ordered five weeks before the Green/Stealth Gravity DE we received this week. The black one is still in "Order Confirmed" status with no VIN assigned. I've wondered if it might be because we've already had one GDE order fulfilled, so we've been pushed back in the queue. On the other hand, I don't see indication of much attention paid being to individual buyer circumstances in how Lucid decides order of deliveries.

In short . . . it's all a total mystery to me.

Is the HUD visible with polarized sunglasses or not? That’s the big thing for me and now that we have some more owners, it would be great to find out.

It's *barely* visible with polarized sunglasses (probably <10% original brighntess)...basically to the point where it's not visible unless you are trying to spot it. My last car's HUD was *dim* with polarized sunglasses but you could see it (maybe about 30% brightness). Hope that helps. I will note that with regular glasses it's significantly brighter than my prior car's HUD.

Have you had any issues with RATGDO? I have a couple of them sitting on my desk that I haven’t installed yet because I still have Homelink on my car and I don’t really use the open/close function on my Home Assistant setup anyway.

I’ve heard some rumors of false open/close signals causing unintended operation.

My BIL installed the *other* (I forget the name of it) system on our shared vacation home and that one seems to work fine too other than having an issue with WiFi signal. But that was more an issue with us just setting up our APs in the new house and not having good enough coverage yet.
I’ve had zero issues. It has literally been flawless.

In fact it’s one of the few home automation pieces I can actually say that about.

That’s helpful. Thank you. Wife and I both wear polarized shades all the time, so this has been a concern for our GDE as we’ve had issues with prior HUDs too.

Is anyone else still getting that error on the software version page on the Lucid site?

I was wearing polarized sunglasses when I was trying out the HUD. At first I thought it was not functioning, as I could see nothing when switching the HUD on or off. When I finally remembered I was wearing polarized sunglasses, I took them off and the HUD popped into view.

I've already ordered a couple of pairs of Ray Ban non-polarized aviator sunglasses on Amazon to keep in the Gravities for when I need them. I prefer polarized sunglasses in Florida light conditions. As I expect to use the HUD mostly with the navigation system, I'll wear the non-polarized lenses only then.

How long does it take for a change order to reflect in the portal?

I spoke with my SA a week ago, asked to drop the tech package and add the power package. It's been crickets since.

Life has changed significantly, and I need a SUV now. If I can't get a Gravity in the next few months, I might be forced to grab something else.

Depends on your SA. It’s same day once they put it in the system. I’ve done it a few times, but my SA is awesome and responsive.

As for delivery - the power package (outlets only) is still slowing them, per my SA. If you didn’t need that, you could probably match to a VIN in a few days. But that depends on your SA being proactive. Also, if you’re flexible in other areas like wheel size and interior, I think you could get a GGT within three months based on the number of times I’ve been asked about potential pre-vins, etc.

I took Delivery of an Aurora Green, Tahoe, 21-22 Orion wheels, fully loaded but no tech in Houston today. I was a day one reservation holder, pivoted to first available vin. And wow. Was an amazing experience. Gravity exceeds all expectations. It’s not a minivan at all in person. Looks like an awesome hybrid of an SUV and a Euro Sports wagon in a really classy way. Tahoe in person is less orange. More baseball glove than Basketball but in between.
I was super excited for delivery and so were the team at the studio. They were very professional and the level of service was excellent.
The drive is advertised and on my way home going between 70-80 and heavy on the accelerator, was getting 3.18 m/kwh.
Only a few minor glitches with Bluetooth call and syncing contacts, but everything worked! Sound system is great. Handles amazing, super quiet in the cabin and exudes quality.
Fit and finish equal the higher quality leather options from Porsche. Zero squeaks.
I can add it was 95 and sunny and the AC was great and even with all that glass I was very happy with the fans on 3/10 and ac on 64 (not the lowest 59)
Dream drive pro 2 and auto lane change worked great on the highways. Fire away with questions.
Congratulations! I loved it in the test drive. The one thing I noticed is I think others comments on the quality of the turn signal cameras were valid, at least on the test drive GT they were just kind of overlaid boxes on the screen that were not very high resolution and looked similar to what you see in a Tesla Model Y. Is that the case for your DE? My SA said he thought it was getting fixed in a software update. Also my test drive GT was having issues with the key fob and they had to use the Keycard. They only had been using this GT for test drives for 10 hours so I don’t think it’s a sign for concern or anything, I was just curious if your fob was working as they said there was some OTA in the works for the specific issue they had. Again please other members don’t turn my comments here into negativity, I’m just asking about the experience of an owner versus this test drive car that had been in use for less than one day.

If you’ve dropped the tech package you should get it before fall, at least that’s what SA told me.

Yeah vanity trumps common sense for me. I have a black Air and I felt the black Gravity was just much more familiar to me and it really looks fantastic in person. I wish I could see a bronze in person so I could change my order again 🤣.

fob is perfect. Cameras are poo poo

Anyone who has driven Gravity also driven a Rivian? My R1S cameras are grainy and crappy, so I am used to that. Our X cameras are amazing. They make our Rivian cameras look like a daguerreotype. So as long as the Gravity isn’t worse than Rivian, I will be okay. The positioning also matters. As in, the view they provide.

I did do a demo drive but didn’t attention.

I thought the cameras were fine 🤷‍♂️

But I’m not a videophile 🤣
