Gravity Delivery Discussion

Dude, I just violated my own rule I had made for myself. Natick had a Black/Tahoe DE getting prepped to deliver to an owner in Germany I saw today, and it looked SOOOOO GOOOOD that I switched my order on the spot from Green/Tahoe to Black/Tahoe. I’ll put up with the need to clean it every few days, it just looks staggering in person. I swore I’d never own a black car but it’s too seductive. It’s literally what Darth Vader would drive.
Black is a lot of work! I have a black Taycan now and I am washing it all the time, but it's a cathartic thing for me and I enjoy it. I'll enjoy washing the Gravity often as well!

I assume that the HUD reflections are visible whether the HUD is on or off?

in our car it remained when I toggled the HUD on and off. I drove the car this morning during a rainstorm with alternating patches of heavy rain and clear blue sky. The spot remained although it did vary in intensity with changes in sunlight levels.

Stupid question, so apologies in advance, but Is there maybe a protective blue plastic film still attached to the HUD?

That crossed my mind after I dropped the car off at the PPF shop. I'll check for that when we get the car back. I would hope that the prep team would have removed any film that might have been there, but they missed a couple of other things, such as an air vent that blows defroster air up the driver's side A pillar that was sticking up. (I was able to pop it back in place myself and hope it holds.)

Can you adjust the HUD brightness or make other changes?

There is a brightness slider, but I did not notice any difference in the HUD image brightness as I moved it back and forth. It also had no effect on the reflection.

Our Black/Stealth Gravity DE was ordered five weeks before the Green/Stealth Gravity DE we received this week. The black one is still in "Order Confirmed" status with no VIN assigned. I've wondered if it might be because we've already had one GDE order fulfilled, so we've been pushed back in the queue. On the other hand, I don't see indication of much attention paid being to individual buyer circumstances in how Lucid decides order of deliveries.

In short . . . it's all a total mystery to me.

Is the HUD visible with polarized sunglasses or not? That’s the big thing for me and now that we have some more owners, it would be great to find out.

It's *barely* visible with polarized sunglasses (probably <10% original brighntess)...basically to the point where it's not visible unless you are trying to spot it. My last car's HUD was *dim* with polarized sunglasses but you could see it (maybe about 30% brightness). Hope that helps. I will note that with regular glasses it's significantly brighter than my prior car's HUD.

Have you had any issues with RATGDO? I have a couple of them sitting on my desk that I haven’t installed yet because I still have Homelink on my car and I don’t really use the open/close function on my Home Assistant setup anyway.

I’ve heard some rumors of false open/close signals causing unintended operation.

My BIL installed the *other* (I forget the name of it) system on our shared vacation home and that one seems to work fine too other than having an issue with WiFi signal. But that was more an issue with us just setting up our APs in the new house and not having good enough coverage yet.
I’ve had zero issues. It has literally been flawless.

In fact it’s one of the few home automation pieces I can actually say that about.

That’s helpful. Thank you. Wife and I both wear polarized shades all the time, so this has been a concern for our GDE as we’ve had issues with prior HUDs too.
