Lucid to Start US Customer Deliveries of Gravity SUV by ‘End of April’

"Marc Winterhoff, the interim CEO of the EV maker Lucid Motors, announced late Thursday the company will start customer deliveries in the U.S. of its Gravity model “by the end of April.”

It all depends on the federal definition of a safety issue. I personally experienced the 2nd row not moving all the way forward on an NYC vehicle, is that a safety issue? My wife couldn’t get in so I assume she would also have an issue getting out.

Motor on another was very loud, it worked but it wasn’t that loud on other vehicles.

It’s not nothing.
I think you saw a quality issue, which needs to be resolved. I would not call that a safety issue.

Once again, my definition doesn’t matter, an issue existed on one side of the vehicle.

It wasn’t a major red flag to me but maybe it is to the fed oversight, I don’t know.

Given that the head of marketing said this wasn’t true, I would perhaps drop the speculation and go with the official company word, since they’ve never been anything but completely transparent about any safety issues.

Screen grab that here and end of story, I haven’t seen it here or linked.

I agree.

It did, however, cause me to think of the late addition of the "hook and lock" mechanism that wasn't on the prototypes. I thought that might have resulted from something that emerged from crash testing. I'm wondering if that change somehow got twisted in the retelling to become a misbegotten tale of a third-row safety issue that had current production tied up.

Pure speculation, though. The bottom line is that there is no production delay over any safety issue at this point.

Lols, I took that pic! No fair. If Nick says it’s BS I believe him.

I kinda think that was not a late addition, a prototype doesn’t have the same road safety standards and the picture you have is from the production vehicle. Most likely that flat space in the prototype was always meant to have that interlocking mechanism (which from the forum discussion on the topic seems standard for the door construction type on the SUV) so I think it’s more than likely just a Prototype omission.

My two cents…
I agree.

Just look up Nick Twork on X... I don't think @borski works for you. The mods volunteer their time so splay nice.

I have 5 groups that I run with 10,000+ members, including a Gravity group with 380+, I know a thing or two about what mods and Admins do. I stick to sharing facts and not attacking people with legit questions.

I like the contrast forged look tbh. But I don’t have a horse in this race.

As I posted when I first saw it, I actually like the look of the black grommet around the hole. Kinda "industrial chic". But to me that black hook with the unpainted bolts just looks too "afterthought add on".

I forgot to look for that hook thing when I was at the event in NYC last weekend, and none of my photos catch it. I also wondered if the headline was kind of a "corruption" of that - if something like that is added, then I'm sure there is additional safety testing needed. It's not really a "safety issue" so much as late V&V that includes safety testing. It's been my speculation (obviously no more than that) that design changes leading to extra testing might be a cause of shipping delays, if in fact there are delays, lol. Anyways, did anyone else notice if the hook thing was present on the showroom models in NYC?

Oh, well, at least we've moved on from the "safety issue" . . . .

Well with that response you should've known how to find the information in 5 seconds yourself! 😂

It shows in a photo posted by @rodagoca from the NYC event:

The tire in the above photo just caught my eye. It's the "LM1" EV version of the new Pirelli P Zero PZ5 tire that has been available in Europe for a few months but is just now showing up in the U.S. Although I've seen pictures of it on tire review sites, this really brings home how it almost looks like a racing slick. It's also a noticeably square-shouldered tire in contrast to most European tires which have more rounded shoulders to deal with the more pronounced crowning of European roads compared to American roads.

This tire really suggests the serious business Lucid is down to with Gravity handling, at least on the biggest wheel option.
