Gravity Delivery Discussion

He's referring to the detachable tow hitch. I took mine out of the compartment as well and stuck the charging adapters in there. I think a big miss was a dedicated compartment for the charging cable like the Air. Sad that there's no slot for it.
That’s the first thing I said when picking the car up when I saw the charger bag just sitting in the trunk. I liked that design on the Air. I’m surprised they didn’t carry it over because it’s more of a problem when the seats are folded into the trunk, the charger bag just lays out with nowhere to place it.

So tow hitch as in the "tow receiver" mentioned in the manual as attachable to the receiver housing unit?

Do you also have the tow bar that needs to be installed by Lucid?
And the harness with connector?

I am stuck in delivery limbo. I was supposed to pick up my GDE last Friday but it got held up. Apparently the service center is waiting for a replacement part before they will schedule my delivery. Kind of annoying because they had me fund my outside financing last week to pick up the car and do my trade-in. So loan is active but no car... I hope this gets resolved soon.

My belief is that it's all there and hidden behind the panel. I haven't pulled it off yet to check =P

That would make sense.
The tow bar is hidden/covered underneath and possible holds the hitch housing unit that the tow receiver fits into.
Perhaps the wiring harness/connector is built into the two receiver.

One of the many aspects of the car to learn about.

I also find it interesting that the actual trailer towing ability will come later in a software update.
I'm guessing that update will provide something like a "tow mode" that adjusts the suspension, torque, etc.

Thinking back over this brief discussion about the tow package; you've probably heard of people who overthink things and make stuff seem more complicated than they really are?
That would be me. :)

Some of it is the anticipation/excitement of getting a Gravity and having the time to think ahead before delivery.
I do try to ask questions that I believe will still benefit others, not just myself.

Thank you for your patience. :)

My SA indicated white and QG were next after AG and black. Gave Aug/Sep timeframe for both, so it's unclear if there's an order between those two.

FWIW AG > Black > White > QG would match the percentages in our order tracker if you take out the two colors marked as later delivery.

I got the connector thing in a bag. Haven’t looked at it because tow mode isn’t enabled yet.

Not sure it matters that much. Just more time between batches, however that really works. I think there’s probably plenty of demand for AG and Black before they move on to others. Regardless, they don’t seem to be able to really ramp yet. It’s to be expected, just frustrating for those of us waiting. If I can get my GDE or GGT before year end, it will still be a much shorter waiting process than my R1S or first Tesla.

I am so bummed that they have such a low weight-bearing hitch compartment. I already bought a Yamika Swingbase Cargo box (bought used months ago when I thought I was going Rivian R1S) and then found out the Gravity can't even support it. Matter of fact, it will barely support my e-bike with a decent carrier on the back. I wish there was an option or aftermarket approved option of beefing up the accessory hitch. I know, I'm dreaming... ;-)

There may potentially be a glimmer of hope, if you're willing to take the risk of using a non-Lucid approved part. The Gravity towing setup looks to be the same as the model X -- and some model X owners discovered that the removable Bosal hitch wasn't quite as up to towing larger loads (~5k camper trailers, cross country and back, multiple times... in addition to multiple e-bikes, or many smaller bikes). So they installed an aftermarket hitch that supports 750 lb hitch loads (though is not detachable).

You can find it on etrailer: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hitch/Tesla/Model+X/2022/76143.html.

It might not fit the Gravity, and it had a 5k lb towing limit, vs 6k, but it should give you an idea of what might be possible -- either in the future via an etrailer or such product... or your own newly acquired welding skills  (Or, if we're very very lucky, and Peter copied some of the rear bumper measurements from the X over to the Gravity, it *might* fit the Gravity)

Doubtful that the mounting points are the same. Hopefully the Gravity sells as well as the X and there will be an aftermarket hitch (though maybe all the people who care about this buy Rivians now.)
What kills me is that there's a perfectly good piece of black plastic to put a hitch receiver behind.

I think this is because it is unlikely to ship with the wall charger for the lower trim models. Much like the Air, most people don’t use the charger and it’s more of a waste of space.

Maybe that’s just my opinion, but I didn’t even have it in my daily driver car and had to look for it in the other vehicles when heading to Arkansas the other week. Was nice to have it for a road trip so I could mooch off my friend laundry outlet instead of my free EA charging. (Also helped when everyone and their brother asked me for a high speed ride around the winding Ozark highways)

Good point. I’ve still got the original CCS one from the old Air collecting dust in the garage now.
