Gravity Delivery Discussion

On a serious note, are people on 22/23” wheels blowing up their tires already?

TireRack does not seem to stock a single PZ5 outside of a single close out item.

On the other hand, EBay is selling multiple Lucid specific PZ5s that have been patched with almost full tread.

Since we have a Gravity in production with these tires I gave Tire Rack a call because they have, indeed, been removed from their website where they were listed earlier. I talked to "Brax" who checked and said they have the Lucid-specific LM1 PZ5s in stock with a decent supply and another order coming in. He said sometimes they take down the listing for a tire specialized to one car so that people don't order it erroneously. He said some BMW owners have been trying to buy them.

They do have a PZ5 (not an LM1 for Lucid) listed in the Gravity front wheel size as a "Special/Closeout" item, but he said those are tires from a 2022-23 production run and are being timed out, hence why they're on special. (Sounded kind of odd, as those tires were introduced to the European market before the U.S., but I didn't think they were even available in Europe until last year.)

They don’t have to sell to BMW crowd and it’s silly to completely remove every single tire in every size.

Not sure about authenticity of that answer, sounds pretty cray cray to me to sell things but not list them, or care about which vehicle gets a 1k tire.

Business is business.

I have to confess your post got my stomach churning again about what happens if we have a flat with a PZ5 while on a road trip. It would not be an easy tire to replace quickly. Best chance to get home would be to find someone who would agree to repair it despite warnings not to do so and then keep the speed reasonable.

The 22” is easy enough to replace, the 23” only has like 5 other tires that fit.

If mine go I am not very likely to replace with PZ5, I am not convinced it’s the grippiest tire. A Hyundai Ioniq 9 on the Hankook Evo AS, same as small tire, had0 .88G on the skidpad to Lucid Dream 0.9G and within 10 feet on braking from 70. While weighing 6200#. I am not feeling the Amazing grip after a comparison like that.

My tires are fine but I did purchase road hazard certificates just in case from Discount Tire. Better safe than sorry.

For your new set or you managed to insure the oem
that came with the vehicle?

TireRack gives 2 year hazard protection for free…

DT/AT will sell certificates for any tire, after an inspection.

Found this in my center console today while looking for something else. I really hope there’s a much longer list they use at some point! This seems like early production list as it’s dated May and my car is stamped as a June build. Also, Draexlmaier is an OEM supplier, so not sure what they supply, but I guess they have their own checklist.
Well, if Draexlmaier makes and puts together the center console, then we know one of the culprits in “fob gate”…wonder if they did the vibe lights too…like the fob maker (whose name I’ve already forgotten), they have legit clients like BMW…so I come back to the common entity in my quest to find someone to blame for my “barely more helpful than another Gravity speedform” fob and my “I’m a very expensive cup holder and place to hold your keycard” center console…😏

Within the past 10-12 days, both my GGT order (placed Nov 7) and my GDE order (placed March 11) both clicked over to "In Production" and I got VINs on both vehicles. I have since requested cancellation of the GGT and I am going all-in with the Dream Edition. A few comments that may be useful for others:
  • I have been told that my VINs are real VINs and not pre-VINs (I don't know what that means anyways) but as a word to the wise, I have been told that once the order clicks to "In Production" then your deposit becomes non-refundable. This is important to note because I received no communication that I was close to production and I also received no notification that the order went to "In Production." So beware that your order can flip to non-refundable status at any time without communication. There is no automated email that says your car is close to being slated for production, nor is there one when it flips over. The only way I found out was through my daily checks of the Lucid portal.
  • In addition to lack of proactive communication, I also struggled to get reactive responses to my inquiries once I noted my new status. My situation was complicated by the fact that my SA is on an extended personal leave, but I really struggled to get any attention at all until I got a different name of a responsive person at Lucid through another forum member. It took a week for me to get any traction. It seems the SA organization is not very well polished at this point. This complicates matters if you need to have a refund processed.
  • I have since cancelled one order and I am told that I will still get my refund, but it will be on an exceptional basis that has to be approved by the higher-ups. I am sure it helped that I decided to keep the DE and not the GT; and I don't know how it would go for someone if they only had a single order.
  • All that said, I did finally get a couple of calls over the weekend and I have been told that 30-45 days is typical from the date of "in production," but I was also told that my DE should be out of the factory in about a week, and I may even have it by the end of September (which would match the EOQ push).
All in all, this has been a frustrating wait and the SA/Customer Service org still needs a lot of work, but I am hopeful that I am finally close to being an owner.
My experience from the Denver office has been stellar. Dennis has been fantastic and told me the day of my DE going into production. Sounds like you will also acquire a September born Gravity. Get your stuff from the store while you can.

I had the same checklist on my delivery at the end of Aug. I kept it as a gee wiz thing…

Since the Gravity wears the LM1 tire that Lucid worked with Pirelli to spec, it's hard to know if it is an apples-to-apples comparison. Did Lucid opt for a different compound to get lower rolling resistance, for example? (I don't know, however, if the option menu Pirelli offers for a manufacturer-spec tire includes different compounds or what other options are on the menu.)

I do know that my favorite tire reviewer, Jonathan Benson of "Tyre Reviews", found the generic Pirelli PZ5 to be the best overall high-performance tire he's ever tested outside of specialty track tires.

Lucid added lower rolling resistance and weight for sound deadening. They also made them wider vs standard tire of same size but I think performance was still compromised vs the original and the price is fairly silly at 1k per rear tire
