Until then, a dash cam will do the job. To me, they are essential for anything from parking damage, police stops to road rage or hit a runs.

We had several incidents where those helped/could have helped. One of those scenarios was a hit/run on a brand new Mercedes in a Trader Joe’s parking lot, a day before the scheduled dash cam install

I had a Viofo A229 Pro Duo professionally installed in my Air Touring. I used the same installer who had worked on my Accord and my wife's Odyssey 6 years ago with a similar Viofo A129. Viofo probably is missing some bells and whistles compared to Thinkware and Blackvue but I've been pretty happy with them, their recording quality and customization. The new A229 has significantly clearer camera quality, which makes it much easier to pick up license plates even in low light scenarios. They also work in parked mode and you can customize how you want it to run (low bit rate, certain # of frames per second, etc) and for how long (I have it set for 3 hours, just in case I forget to turn it off when I park at home. I never park anywhere outside the house for more than 3 hours, but I'd probably change this if I were still using the park and ride).

I don't know if we're allowed to post amazon links, but the A229 pro duo is available for $210 at the moment on Amazon with coupon, which seems like the lowest price I'd ever seen. It goes on sale regularly but generally just for $280 or so (which is what I got it for), so I think this is a great deal. It's a "lightning deal" so it probably won't last long - usually the $70 coupon is only available when Amazon lists it at full price, so discount price + coupon is pretty great. Wish I got this deal lol.

It's saying there's additional hardware requirements for park mode. Does it not do park mode out of the box? Also I have a radar mounted in my Air already. I wonder if I lack the space for an additlnal wiring setup of the cameras

When I had my Viofo installed, I also paid for a separate $25 hardwiring kit for the parking mode to work. I don't know all the details as I didn't install it but my installer said it was definitely much more complicated in the Lucid than my previous cars, haha. But still, he did a bang up job and everything works great.

Even though I had the Thinkware U1000, I decided to go with the new Viofo A329. Bigger image quality (now 4K at 60hz with HDR) and thinner cables which should be a bit easier to run in the headliner. In order to run an extended battery for the longterm parking recording (multiple days), the Thinkware needed a special spliced hardwire cable (to enable the cams parking mode). That just plugged into the battery which then plugs into the 12V outlet. Still have check if the Viofo needs a spliced cable for the ext.battery.

Btw. We have always used a radar detector as well (Escort Redline Max 360), but always with a hard wire kit.

I know it's an old thread but I am thinking of installing a dashcam. We have a leftover Thinkware U1000 which will only work in the center below the camera box (I was hoping for mounting in on the passenger side but too much blackout on screen from the plastic cover in the center). Which made me rethink as a saw a review of the new Viofo A329 that seems to work fine mounted on the side of the camera cover.
Glass roof, so a little more work involved. I usually remove the A-pillar covers when installing these to make sure the cables could never interfere with the window airbags. Has anyone ever removed these? Are they just clipped in or is there a risk of breaking any clips?

The plan is no hardwire, just going to the rear 12V outlet and then use a battery pack in the trunk.

Last but not least it would be ideal not to use a dashcam at all if Lucid would have a Tesla-like software option. Any chance of this maybe with the Gravity coming online?

Do you have a picture of where you have the dashcam setup on the windshield? I've been trying to figure out a good spot, but most everywhere either has the center plastic cover in the way of the camera or sticks out like a sore thumb.

On a separate note, is there any technical reason I couldn't mount it on the center plastic cover?

I am using a Rove R2-4K dashcam. I have it connected to the 12V cigarette charger in the trunk. The issue I have is that the unit does not start up when I start the car. It is random, so hard to diagnose the issue. I discussed it with the mobile tech and he said something to do with the Lucid power management, the way power sources startup when the car starts. I dont think that is an issue, because I put a power meter and I see power coming through, but it is not enough to start the unit. Any ideas? Is anyone else having that issue with other brands.

I had first connected it to the USBc port in the front and was having this issue, so I moved it to the trunk, but the problem persits. I have had the dashcam replaced by Rove. It works fine on my Volvo ICE SUV.

I just realized that I never uploaded the pics...

The install is a dual-channel Viofo A329 which is currently the dash cam with the best sensors (Starvis 2) on the market. High resolution (4k@60Hz F, 2k R), HDR, etc.
We also use an extended power pack which allows for many days worth of parking recording.

The install was very easy for the wiring as the hardwire kit (required so that the camera doesn't go to sleep) simply plugs into the extended battery pack and the battery plugs into the only cigarette lighter plug in the trunk. The only issue was the length of the USB-C cable which had to be extended via a coupler due to the fact that we have the glass roof requiring the cable to run via the center strip to the B-pillar.
BTW, it is important to remove the B-pillar covers so that the wire can be routed behind the window airbags (easy to do) so that there is no issue with a possible deployment. The rear camera is also easy as the rear window screen does not physically interfere with the camera, something very common on other sedans.

Here are some quick pics. What can't be seen is that the front camera is actually not visible from the drivers side at all as the rear view mirror covers the view. Only visible to the passengers. Quite happy so far

Thanks for posting this. I have two dual-channel Viofo A329 that I ordered a month ago and have not got around to installing in two of our vehicles. I will likely tackle the Lucid first. Just to clarify-the camera is connected to the extended battery pack by the USB-C and the battery pack to the trunk 12V, correct? I was going to try to hardwire myself but may just go this route for simplicity (and safety!). Which coupler for USB-C did you get and how long was it (I am not familiar with those)? I purchased my Viofo cameras with the hardwire kit so I imagine I would need no additional kits/wiring with the extended battery packs? Thanks in advance.
