12 Months In, and I'm Out.

I love the car and have no regrets LEASING it, even though it's been in service 4 to 5x for minor things. I don't trust it beyond the lease and will definitely turn it in after. I may lease another one after (unlikely, but only because I like new things and leasing the same thing would be weird).

But yes, even if minor, I've never had this many issues with a new car, though I did expect it with the young brand. No regrets :)

I am coming up on 12 Months with my car. Almost 10K miles in the Philly area. 2023 AT.

Looking back, this has been THE worst purchase of my life. I was holding out hope after my terrible sales experience that things would get better. But the truth is there hasn't been one month, or even two weeks, where the car worked as advertised or expected.

First with the ordering and delivery experience: terrible communication about dropping off my car at my house vs me driving hours to NY to pick up. They changed delivery dates and times with no warning. And reaching out to them was incredibly difficult. The car was eventually delivered hours after the expected time in a cold and dark parking lot where I could not properly inspect the vehicle. But whatever. I was excited to finally have this car.

Ever since then, there has been an issue every single month.

In the first month, the suspension has a bolt that wasn't tightened to spec, causing a rattling noise whenever it went over the slightest bump. That was eventually fixed.

There was also a rattling sound in the back seat with every bump. Multiple service appts later I was told they didn't hear anything or they replaced something that didnt fix the issue. Now, 11 months later, it is being serviced with a bad parcel shelf and an issue with the rear shade apparatus. The foam suggestion never worked for me.

Then one of the car door handles wouldn't release with the remote, and there is another service appointment.

Then there was the flat tire (not Lucids fault, just bad luck).

Then, my key fob stopped working after a month. I wonder to myself...it CAN'T be the battery...it's a brand new car.

As we all know, it is the battery. I now have more button batteries than I ever cared to own in my life, stashed in my garage,y glove box, my kitchen, and my work locker. And now I need to have a Faraday box or pouch for the remote to my 100K car not to die every 2 weeks.

Scheduled charging NEVER worked consistently. Bob and others have explicit instructions on how to remedy it but it STILL won't charge reliably.

About twice a week I have open and close the driver door multiple times to get the soft close to work and register as the door being closed.

My Lucid Home Charger, professionally installed through QMerit, never worked through my Internet connection and can't reliably get to interface, despite me buying a new mesh point specifically for my charger.

The app is terrible, And only slightly improved in terms of connectivity with the recent update.

Loaner #1 during service had non-functional cameras for parking or reversing. The drunk hydraulics wouldn't open so that became manual.

Loaner #2, just dropped off yesterday, had parking system and rear brake faults on my first drive to work. The pilot panel was stuck in the recessed position and resetting the car did nothing. The screen ended up resetting itself during my ride to work and I thought I was clear. Then after work the pilot panel and the screen above it were completely black and non responsive despite car resets. And then on the ride home, the car reset the screen itself, and then slowly dimmed to black and unresponsive again. It did that THREE times on its own during a 20 minute commute. Now it won't turn on at all and I can't open the glove box that has important documents and emergency cash in it.

These are all mostly minor things, but this is death by 1000 papercuts.

When the car works, it is fantastic. It is pretty. It is smooth. It is fast and responsive. It is fun to drive.

But my car never works.

And now I have to wait 6-8 weeks for a mobile appointment or service center appointment.

I am truly, truly envious and jealous of those who have working vehicles and haven't had to experience this nightmare.

After this last experience with this loaner, I am out.

I already paid down half of the car and will pay off the rest in the next 6 months and dump it in favor of some other EV. I own thousands of stock that I will also partly dump, as I am almost positive that Gravity, while pretty and exciting, will have its own host of problems. That 6-8 week service time will undoubtedly double when it is eventually released. I'll hold on to some stock in the rare chance Lucid turns this around.

I was so excited about this car, and I am incredibly disappointed.

I'm done.

So sorry to hear about your problems.
There is a one word for it. Lemon.

Sorry to hear that, I had issues too since I picked up the car. Lucid Air is the least reliable I had so far. But also one of the most exciting - which makes the issues easier to swallow.

Word of caution for Lucid: one disappointed customer can turn off 5 other potential customers, and you don't have the sales volume to be able to absorb these outliers. I absolutely love this car, but there's no way I would recommend it to any of my friends.

Sorry to hear all the problems. My 23 AT has worked awesome. I love the car and am super happy. Too bad not every car is built the same way. Good luck to you on your next car.

Guess you don’t have the patience, I’ve had a few of those issues but Lucid fixed everything. Understand it’s a brand new company, not Toyota which has been making cars for a century. I bought a Lucid expecting this. My car is now almost perfect especially with the new software updates. I suggest you don’t buy a Tesla or Rivian. Stick to ICE manufacturers who make EVs.

Interesting, after owning 2 Tesla Model S for the last couple of years and having my fair share of issues, I decided to see them and given lucid a try. This time I leased it, unfortunately, I'm returning mine due to some of the same issues your having plus more. Scheduled charging is a nightmare, radio plays multiple sources/channels at the same time, camera faulty errors, truck not closed error, charging equipment error and not to mention the range. It's better than Tesla model S, stated miles of 394, I usually don't break even 300 on a full charge. Key fobs and phone keys have lots of issues, mostly they don't work. Have several tickets into lucid and they had the car in the shop for almost 3 weeks. Largely said they couldn't replicate the problem and returned the car without fixing anything. I'm feed up with these EV that charge more than premium with promises of having features rather than actual advertised features. Lucid financial services as well as their customer have been pretty non responsive to inquiry about early lease termination. Perhaps my expectations are to high for an EV. I'm going back to my BMW 535d, not only it drives better, basic things work on it. EV's are obviously faster, but I trade all the other daily headaches for a slight slower car.

I agree with Batteryman. Buying a car from a brand new car company is an adventure and one needs to be prepared for it. The alternative, as Batteryman suggested, is to go with one of the traditional car makers that have had years to get most of these issues resolved.

The issue is not with an EV vs. an ICE. If you liked your BMW 535d, I think you would like the BMW I5 for which Consumer Reports gives its highest EV rating.

I feel you and you got to do what you feel is right. These new EV companies are hit and miss with some cars. I’ve seen many horror stories with all of the new EV’s. I have a 20’ Model3P and Lucid GT that I plan on keeping for the long haul. I feel like I was lucky enough to get what I like to call a “Good Build” on both cars. I don’t need the latest & greatest, I just want cars that work. Good luck with your next one. Cheers!

I respectfully disagree with some of your points. As I mentioned, the backseat rattling has been going on for almost a full year with multiple service visits and fixes without resolution. The scheduled charging issue has been an issue from Day 1. The battery issue has been there since month 1. The soft close issue is ongoing. I (believe) am a very patient person, but multiple service visits over a year should resolve these issues, new company or not. Yes they fixed the suspension and the door handle, but that is about it. So yes, I am frustrated by this. And IMO, early loaners should not be an excuse for cars that have screens that control vital car functions blacking out and not being able to be reset by the user. You may have had your issues corrected, but I have not. But you are certainly welcome to your opinion.
I see, well, in that case very unfortunate. Sorry you had these issues. Thought they were all addressed, my mistake.

You tried a Lucid, its not for you, all good. Life is too short to not find something that checks all your boxes. Cheers!

I have to guess you got a lemon of a Lucid. My 1.5 yo Touring (25,000 + miles) has had its share of problems, but even though my nearest mobile service is in Ohio, Lucid always came through and fixed things. Once they even took my car to MA for a failed headlight replacement while I was on vacation, and brought it back before I returned home.
If it were up to me, I'd replace your car free of charge to make up for all your troubles. Because it is an amazing car, and Lucid as a company needs to have an excellent reputation to survive.
Good luck to you.

Excellent point. I had a BMW PHEV that had constant battery pack issues. I did an informal lemon law (BMW agreed to buy it back) and I ordered a replacement 530e which I kept for five trouble free years. I loved my BMWs and would have stayed with the company if they had not made a diversion into ugly.

Every car company has some lemons (see my example above). I see that MCR16 sent you a private message. I don't know what is in it but if they are willing to do a replacement, I for one would jump on it. But...you still must be prepared for a startup company and product but it is much more mature now. The car is so spectacular that I think it is worth another try but that is me...not you.

I had two concerns about getting a Lucid: (1) the uncovered glass roof; and (2) the greyish stripe that runs across the car above the doors. The first concern was because I am in Scottsdale and it is too damned hot here to put up with that; and the second was later solved when Lucid started building and offering cars in a single color. I thought, and still think, that the stripe makes the car look like an old man's car. A buddy of mine here in Scottsdale just got a fathom blue Pure (all metal all one color) and it is (IMHO) spectacular. You would have the opportunity to make a similar choice if you went for a replacement if you shared those concerns.

For everyone who keeps saying Lemon, based off OP's descriptions of issues, this is not a likely lemon candidate, and OP indicated as such.

Yes, I don't think this quite fits the definition of a lemon, but MY car was just not built well.

And because I know you all are itching for an update:

I finally picked it up my car this morning after a week of repairs trying to fix the noisy parcel shelf. Boy was I surprised when I found out all the things that were wrong with the car. From my invoice:

- Checked torque of all High Voltage Battery(HV-B) bolts and found all bolts not torqued to specification. With all HV-B bolts torqued, performed road test(10/7/24 9:27AM 7,484mi. out - 9:32AM 7,486mi. in) over bumps with rear seat cushion removed, creak noise is no longer present. Removed all HV-B bolts, cleaned threads, replaced and torqued all HV-B hardware to specification as per Service Manual. Road test vehicle(10/4/24 12:21PM 7,486mi. out - 12:36PM 7,498mi. in) and confirmed creak noise is no longer present.

- During Multi-Point Inspection, found missing High Voltage Battery(HV-B) crossmember plugs.

- Contact and small relative motions between the front bezel and the back cover on the steering wheel when pushing/turning/driving.

- Left front suspension damper leaking

- Road tested vehicle and heard abnormal wind noise around driver's side mirror when driving over 50 mph. Upon inspecting driver's front door, found window glass to B-pillar gap not within specifications at 2mm. Removed driver's front door panel, adjusted window forward (X+) approximately 1.5mm. Window glass to B-pillar now within specifications at 3.5mm

- During road test, found roof bow squeaks over speed bumps. Inspected roof bow and found noise is coming from between backlite and rear of the roof bow area around the center passenger side. Removed roof bow and found poor adhesion of urethane. Road tested vehicle with roof bow removed, squeak noise is no longer present. Installed new roof bow and confirmed squeak is no longer present over speed bumps and normal driving conditions. (NOTE THAT THIS BOW WAS REPLACED DURING MY LAST SERVICE VISIT)

- Concern: During removal of parcel shelf for noise diagnosis, found parcel shelf broken. Cause: Broken mounting tabs. Corrections: Parcel shelf mounting tabs broken prior to removal. Performed glass roof variant rework to new parcel shelf and installed.

- During the first two months of owning the car, the bolts for my front suspension were also not tightened to spec.

I understand this is a new car company and everyone says to expect headaches, but, in my opinion, Lucid shit the bed with this $100,000 vehicle, after only 8,000 miles, purchased last November.

I just can't excuse this, and I would be surprised if any of you all would excuse this as well. But perhaps my standards are different than yours, especially for this price.

Wow that's an impressive inspection, diagnosis, and repair.
Another reason to go Lucid.

Two years in ... could not be more happy...looking at getting another one.

That's a bummer, so many things going wrong. The good thing is that they fixed everything, hopefully it stays like that.

Did they solve the rattles and squeaks for you? I hope it's better now. I'm sorry your car came with so many items out of spec and/or broken, but I'm glad Lucid is fixing everything.

For my part, I've been very happy with my AT. I've also remained impressed with serviced customer support for any needs.

Totally agree. No excuse for this. This is just poor build quality.

Yes, the good thing is they spent the time to diagnose and fix the issue. Let's hope that it stays fixed. The ride home was quiet for once, but it'll take some time to see if it keeps.

They gave me a AGT as replacement loaner (for the one that had the pilot panel that crapped out) and that ride was smooth and quiet for the week. Those massaging seats were nice.

While it sucks that your car has had so many issues, I must say that I'm impressed with Lucid's diagnostics in the update you posted this morning. They were able to successfully diagnose multiple issues that were causing your squeaks and rattles, which, per their report and your first drive, seem to have fixed your issues.

This thread is kind of becoming a pissing battle between those who are happy with their cars and those who are not. If it continues down this path, it'll likely get locked by the mods before becoming a flame war.

Am I giving Lucid a complete pass? No. Many of those issues shouldn't have been present. That being said, no car company is perfect and I know of a lot of high end cars that have issues that need to be fixed, so a few people here having issues it's to be expected, new car company or not.

I'd say that we all move on and accept that no company is perfect. It's the service after getting the car that makes the difference and Lucid seems to be meeting that metric for many. Your loaner crapped the bed? They replaced it for you quickly and without issue. How can you complain about that? They recently fixed my camera issue after the 2.4.x updates. I dropped the car off in Beverly Hills and they gave me a loaner. Did I have to drive the loaner back to get my car? No, they towed the cars back and forth for the 3+ hour drive without hesitation.

I've had a few relatively minor issues over the nearly 2-1/2 years I've had the car and thankfully nothing catastrophic (knocks on wood). They've fixed all the issues without having to pull teeth and I've gotten loaners/rentals when needed. I'm planning to keep my Air for years to come and can't wait to add a Gravity to the stable as well.

I guess that means my title of the post would be 'Almost 2-1/2 years in and I'm in it for the long haul.'
