Connected Home Charger - Speed Decreasing on 100A Circuit

1) Fort Lauderdale, so 30 minutes from Miami
2) Marginally hotter, but it’s always hot
3) Lucid home charger at 100/80A
4) Goes from 18kw to 9kw, I’d say halfway through a charge, but I’ve not monitored it closely enough to get an exact time.
5) The cable always gets warm when I charge, but that has never affected the speed. My condo Blink charger is at 11kw and it gets just as warm.

I’ll add that it always takes at least a minute for my Touring to start charging when connected to the LCHCS, but the iX in my family starts charging in 2 seconds. My car charges in 2-4 seconds when using my condo’s Blink charger after I activate the session.
 
I have noticed the same thing recently. When charging overnight, it has alway run at 18kW or so. As of late, it will run at 18kW and then dip to 7, back up to 18, a few times during the night.
 
Some photos of the electric draw during charging. Lucid home charger for 2-1/2 years. Only recently is doing this. Has to be some update. Good to know others are experiencing the same thing.

If folks are interested, we experienced this issue in Alabama with our first GT.

There were essentially a few things happening:
- Cable gets hot and used to shut off (may only derate nowadays).
- Garage gets hot.
- Car fans kick on to try to cool to no avail.
- Ultimately, the charger had an issue where it melted half the socket.

The meditations were keeping the garage open to let less hot air circulate from outside. This also meant that if the car fans kicked in the garage wouldn't spiral in heat until everything just quit. A commercial grade plug had to be installed, and the charger eventually failed completely 6+ months later.

A new plug ultimately fixed the issue + a new charger + open garage + updates that kept the car from cooking itself with the fans. Otherwise, there is not much else you can do at it starts to heat up this summer.

That’s a different (valid!) issue than what’s happening here. Yes, if you use a residential “dryer” outlet for your 14-50, that is precisely what will happen. You need either a commercial outlet, as you discovered, or any of the new EV-compatible (and marked as such) residential outlets.

But that’s only if you’re using the 14-50 cable/adapter.

People on this thread are talking about hardwired EVSEs. There is no outlet to change. :)
 
Same issue - 100Amp Lucid wall charger - used w/o problems since June 2023 - always solid 18kW, regardless of season, since last update decline to 8 or 9kW.
Time from plugging in till start of charging process has also increased from maybe 30 sec to now sometimes 3-4 minutes.

1) Mid Atlantic - Eastern Shore of Maryland.
2) Very warm and chilly, no difference.
3) Lucid wall charger, bought in 2023, professionally installed - no prior issues.
4) Variable; 18kW --> 9kW
5) Cable has always been hot at end of charge process and still is
 
Seemingly 3 months later, I’m still having this issue. I have to assume it is a temperature issue, although it wasn’t present last summer. I’m in South Florida, so it’s very hot almost all the time, but the only time I had a full speed charge since this started was on an unusually cool afternoon. I charge the car right outside of the garage and when I walked into the garage to get something mid-charge a couple days ago, I could hear the cooling fans blasting away (not DCFC level) and the app showed the car was only charging at 9 kw. I even tried charging with the car in the garage (with the door cracked a few inches) a couple weeks ago, and it was even worse as the car had to run the fans even higher and the garage become an even hotter oven that it normally is. Thankfully, 9kw is okay in most of my use cases, but that’s not always the case and it’s getting on my nerves that my charger won’t charge at full speed when I spent considerably more to install it with the appropriate breaker and cabling to handle the full 80A.
 
Seemingly 3 months later, I’m still having this issue. I have to assume it is a temperature issue, although it wasn’t present last summer. As I’ve mentioned here and elsewhere on the forum, I feel like I’m in the same boat. I’m here in Miami and my garage has been oppressively hot this summer. When I first got the car in March, I had no issues getting the full 11 to 11.5 kW on my Tesla GEN three wall charger. But ever since the temperatures crept up starting in about late May early June I’ve been getting throttling down to as low as 6 kW during a charge session. It’s never right at the beginning. It’s usually at least 30 to 45 minutes into it which I think is just a result of heat. I actually just bought a large dehumidifier for my garage and I’m going to see if that makes any difference. It already feels much better in the garage so I’ll update after the next charge post dehumidifier

Dehumidifier didn't work unfortunately. It's still hot in there, just not humid.
