So... How about those Gravities coming out of Natick?
I am going to go out on a limb and try to defend JoeMa a little bit. I totally agree that when reading through this forum you will begin to see that there are some posters in the “Sky is Falling” category where every minor issue is a “This is deplorable and could end Lucid”, then there are the “Chill, these minor issues are no big deal and being addressed” and finally there are the “This is my honest opinion, this —- is great and I love it, but ——- is a serious issue and major annoyance.” JoeMa as well as me want more of the last type poster. JoeMa is like me, someone who is not an existing Lucid owner who is trying to decide if he wants to jump on the bleeding edge new auto maker bandwagon. I think everyone brings a certain bias to this forum, and we are just hoping people will push back against their bias and be honest in their reviews.I am interested in a Gravity but it's just not ready, at least not yet for me. If you don't like hearing my honest opinions, that's on you but don't jump me for posting my opinions. I've been on the Mercedes forum for many years and never once did anyone post what you just did. And I wasn't being cynical, I posted what I feel are some real short-comings based on what a few owners have honestly reported. I know you are moderator but you need to ease up and allow everyone on the forum to express their own opinions, even when you disagree. Moderators should never stifle others honest opinions.
I wouldn't have gotten the first model year (or even the first ~100 US models) if I expected everything to be perfect. This is generally a lot nicer than our 2019 Model X delivery experience, although here we got an hour with the delivery service rather than being rushed out the door as quickly as possible! It doesn't do everything in the videos and there are definitely some quirks, but it's really comfortable to drive. I look forward to being surprised and delighted over the next year (and hopefully not too much time in the shop, unless they can give us a Sapphire loaner...)And while the early software and tech problems are annoying, it's really more the norm than the exception with new EV models. The first year of my 2021 Mustang Mach-E was messy (although putting it in perspective now, not that bad). The 2025 Porsche Macan Electric we just bought has some really annoying software bugs.
At least 10, and showing up by the week. Every time I've been in Natick there's been a carrier with multiple Gravity. I still knew a bit more than the delivery team due to this forum, but they are definitely on their game and super excited to get people in Gravity. (Apparently they didn't know about the bears until mine came in.)So... How about those Gravities coming out of Natick?
OK, I just got home from dinner and we sat in the driveway in the rain and played with this a bit. It's very pretty, but obviously not all finished yet. Thanks @jered for sharing your impressions and pix! Just curious... have you been able to play with the dynamic ambient lighting yet?
A bit silly but very cool lookingOK, I just got home from dinner and we sat in the driveway in the rain and played with this a bit. It's very pretty, but obviously not all finished yet.
Here's a picture of the shiny, and a video of one of the Sanctuary Mode segments. Not being a Californian I had to suppress some snickering.... I've done my share of yoga and meditation, but it was a bit silly. OTOH, the seat recline with massage is fantastic and I could easily fall asleep for a few hours here. I look forward to a long road trip.
I think the fob holder is an NFC reader point, so it can sense the key presence without having to wake up the key.I love my Gravity. To be clear. I just post my experience based on past experience with other EVs. As I said in my other post. I have no love for 1 brand or another. I see the good and the bad. I post as I experience them. not to start any flame way... but on that note.
Wanna go back to Homelink debate? I kid... I kid....

P.S. - not to beat a dead horse. But does putting the key fob in the key fob holder ensures it don't go to sleep? Wondering if there's a purpose to the key holder pocket on the center console. I usually leave it in my pocket, hence no movement. I'm totally find with waking up the fob when car does not sense it. not the end of the world. can't wait for iPhone key.
The NFC reader point is the wireless charging pad, at least based off where you need to put the card.I think the fob holder is an NFC reader point, so it can sense the key presence without having to wake up the key.
I haven't had any problems, but I'm personally really stumped by the key weirdness. My 2019 Model X key homunculus is tiny and has never had problems. All of these things are sourced from suppliers -- nobody makes their own fobs. I don't understand how you can get this wrong.
I thought that “Gravities” was the agreed-upon plural?multiple Gravity
The gravity of this discussion is weighing on me.I thought that “Gravities” was the agreed-upon plural?
There was an inconclusive thread: https://lucidowners.com/threads/whats-the-proper-plural-for-the-gravity.9934/
As a trademark (like "Lego") the proper plural is always going to be using the trademark name to qualify a noun, and you'll see this throughout Lucid's website. ("Lucid Gravity prototypes", "Lucid Gravity vehicles", etc.) and "Lucid Gravity" will always refer to the vehicle in the abstract or a single concrete instance (e.g. "the Lucid Gravity is the fastest production SUV", "I have a Lucid Gravity").
My preference for shorthand is to leave out the qualified noun, so "there were five Gravity being prepared for delivery". As long as you don't work for Lucid, I think you can get away with saying "Lucid Gravities" though. (Or "Lucids", but probably not "Lucids Gravity".)
Anyway, now to find out all the interesting spots that my kid can get legos -- sorry, Lego bricks -- stuck in the seat mechanisms!
We took a longer drive last night and I don't think many of the "dynamic" features are available yet. At least, I didn't notice any color-responsiveness, although documentation alludes that drive assist features will trigger dynamic effects. This looks like it'll be something to be surprised by in a future SW update.A bit silly but very cool lookingThanks @jered!
Great write-up! And great charging session! Not that I expect to have too many DCFC's now with 450 mile range, but still. Our most frequent road trip is between home (north of Denver) and Las Vegas, 785 miles. I try to avoid night driving so we usually break it into 1.5 days with a hotel (500 miles day 1, 285 day 2). Driving straight thru in the Mach-E takes 5 30-minue charging stops (2.5 hours) which just makes the drive day a little too long. But in the Gravity I should be able to shave 1.5 hours off that (probably 3 20-minute DCFCs). That's almost as fast as driving ICE.- We got the other 350kW stall. Immediately ramped up to 325kW for a while and was still at 250kW at 50% SoC when we unplugged! 56.2kW delivered in 12 minutes... the entire charging session was about double the best case on our 2019 Model X. This will be a total game changer for long road trips. It also made the other people waiting very happy.
Where was the latch to open glove box? My rep had it programmed on the end of the buttons under display but this was a miss IMO; if the buttons are programmable why wld you waste one on a glove box vs having a button on the actual glove box itself? We stopped by the Natick, MA studio today. There is one Gravity on display (Green / Yosemite / 21/22) and one in back being prepped for test drives soon (Green / Yosemite / 22/23). Coming from our X, the Gravity absolutely met all of our size and comfort requirements, and we're happy with our reservation but still look forward to a test drive. The SA, Nico, was super-helpful and pretty well-informed given they've only had the vehicle a few days.
No new pictures, because all of my phone pictures are awful compared to the other ones being posted today, sorry.
The third row seats are very spacious. I'm 5'10", my husband is 6'2", and we felt comfortable sitting together in the 3rd row. Maybe not for 12 hours, but definitely for a regular trip. The second row seats are even more spacious, and the tray tables are great. USB-C and 120V ports are well-located. I wouldn't want to sit in the 2nd row middle, but the huge armrest/cupholder is convenient. The glass sunroof is MASSIVE and offers an enormous amount of headroom for both back rows.
I put the 2nd and 3rd row seats up and down a half-dozen times. The 2nd row is easy to operate, although reaaaaaaaaly slow to move forward to access the third row. The 3rd row mechanism is a bit fiddly to put up. The SA said this was a pre-production model, but I think it just requires knowing what to do -- you pull the handle back and then sort of lift up-and-over. Once you do it once it's easy, but the play in the mechanism seemed a bit unsettling.
The 2nd-row screen doesn't do entertainment today, just controls. I don't know that I'd really want to watch TV on a small screen at knee-level, but I'll point this out all the same.
The rear liftgate open seems really low, especially with the suspension down. I wish it opened higher. My husband is definitely going to bonk his head on it a few times.
The front seats are far more comfortable than our X. The massaging feature is "real" although not as strong as a proper massaging chair. They were sufficiently adjustable for our needs. The steering wheel is really tiny. The cockpit displays are a real experience -- almost overwhelming; again, I look forward to a test drive on these things.
I was able to pair my phone but then Bluetooth was disabled in showroom mode, so I couldn't see if CarPlay was working, I assume not yet -- I believe the Gravity was running v3.1.2. We had a funny experience where it took about 10 minutes to figure out how to open the glovebox. It's a weird shape -- thin, but deep. I feel like you could put a 10" pizza box in it, and nothing else. The center console was very high (compared to our X) but much better designed -- dual Qi chargers, a sliding top layer, and well-designed interior without little slots to lose things in. There's definitely more distance and isolation between driver and passenger than in other vehicles.
The HUD was installed but disabled. The sound system felt really powerful, but my judgement is reserved until I hear it while on the highway.
In the showroom on a rainy day, Aurora Green looks grey. I don't love it, but for me it's better than Black or White. All the Gravity colors are pretty meh, imho. The Airs in deep Zenith Red were just stunning and I'd love that, but it might look odd on a bigger vehicle. If this bothers me, I'll just get a wrap eventually. I also don't like the Yosemite Purluxe; it's fine, but I know it'll be marked and dingy soon enough. The Tahoe leather (samples, and in Airs) looks like the classic 80's Mercedes leather, and my favorite of the options, The Ojai samples are more grey than green, and remind me of (dare I say it) minivan vinyl. I wish there were more options, but Tahoe and Mojave are the best of those available imho.
They didn't have the frunk seat cushion, so it was hard to say much about the frunk (and I didn't have time to grab a tape measure, sorry again). I sat on it, and my 5-year-old climbed in it with me, and it seems nice but I have no real comments on it.
Overall, it's a beautiful vehicle, we're definitely getting one, and there were no new concerns raised by experiencing it in person! (In comparison, sitting in an Air makes it clear we're post-sedan for now, as much as I love the PB&J colors.) I wish the color options were a little more exciting, but I'd rather a Gravity in 2025 rather than hoping for Zenith Red in 2026.
