Gravity test drive

True. If I really wanted or felt I need a HUD, I just wouldn't wear polarized sunglasses. However, that is info any potential user should consider.
I can’t even imagine driving on a sunny day without polarized sunglasses! It just takes away all the windshield glare…

I read that some HUDs use digital light processing technology that allow them to be seen with polarized glasses.

Perhaps that will be the Gravity HUDs.

A customer's decision if they want a HUD:

  1. Get non-polarized sunglasses.
  2. Put on and take off polarized sunglasses while driving. Not too safe.
  3. Hope the HUD uses digital light processing tech.
  4. Look for polarized sunglasses specifically designed to work with HUDs
  5. Try adjusting seating position/viewing angle.
  6. ?
If no other choices, I'd go for #4. Based on how common this issue has to be, they probably exist.

@jedwin I change my choice. 😀 Actually I just chose to save myself $2600.

It depends on the quality of polarized lenses and the angle of polarization of the HUD. My Maui Jims show me the Ioniq 5 HUD clear as day; just less bright.

YMMV.

Please let us know how they work with your Gravity DE, once you have it.

During Gravity test drives, did anyone ask a salesperson about the "See-through Vehicle Display" feature and how it differs from the AR HUD?
The feature becomes available with DD2 Premium and above and is not connected to the Tech Package Upgrade that has the AR HUD.

I believe that See-Through Display has nothing to do with HUD but rather is an enhanced 3D surround where you can see what is under the vehicle. I guess so you can see that the family cat crawled under it during the night and don’t back over it. 🤣

Actually, I think is more intended for off-road slow crawling over obstacles.

I'm not thinking it has anything to do with the HUD. Otherwise, I would think it would be mentioned in the Tech Upgrade Package with the HUD.

The AR feature of the HUD has the vehicle overlay onto the road, but not see-through.
AR sometime includes the use of 3D objects, but it's not the same as 3D surround viewing.

What you're suggesting sounds like the "3D Surround View Monitoring".
That's what I'm thinking the "see-through display" is, but thought someone had asked and knew for sure.

Speculation is good, but I like confirmation of speculation.
However, it will have to do for now. We've all become pretty good at it.
Also, no shade on the SAs, but it's possible they don't know or aren't sure yet.

It's to eliminate the blind spots near the vehicle in the 360 panorama view while maneuvering in parking lots, your garage, etc.

That sounds like Surround View Monitoring (SVM), which is what I was thinking it is.
However, "see-through display" is listed seperately from SVM in the DD2 features.

Perhaps the see-through display is more of a characteristic or capability of the SVM, but why list it seperately versus "3D Surround View Monitoring (with See-Through Display)".

If you ask Chat GPT, what is Lucid gravity’s see-through vehicle display, you get a complex answer. Sounds like dream drive premium and above gives you the ability to have see-through display, you must purchase the tech package (aka HUD) to actually have it. In other words, HUD requires dream drive premium and above. It makes sense because premium includes more cameras.

Chat GPT is not always correct.

Using the configurator shows us that "See-through Vehicle Display" comes with DD2 Premium and above.
I stated that in my original post.

The configurator also shows that you can purchase the Tech Package Upgrade (incl. HUD) to get DD2 Premium and above.
You can get the Tech Package Upgrade without DD2 Premium and above.

If the Tech Package Upgrade required DD2 Premium, then the Tech Package Upgrade would be auto-selected when a customer selects DD2 Premium or Pro.
That's what happens with the Custom & Convenience Package (CCP) with the Air.
With the Air, the CCP requires DD Pro.
When configuring an Air, if you select DD Pro, the CCP is auto-selected and the DD Pro information says the CCP is required.

Probably the wrong thread, but since DD was mentioned, why doesn’t Lucid just license Tesla’s AP software? Lucid is YEARs away from Tesla’s FSD functionality and as an owner, I’d prefer Lucid focus on other software tools when there’s an FSD out there that’s already really great. Don’t hate on me. I have a Tesla, Rivian and Lucid AT so am sensitive to the comparisons.

Please do not use ChatGPT as a source of truth. AI does not understand what is the source of truth. It only knows how to sound convincing.

Lucid knows it needs to catch up in the space. Hence the recent partnership with KAUST. This will give them access to several super computers to help grow its autonomous driving and advanced driving systems quicker.

I would sell the car.

Also, that's not how software works; it would take "YEARs" to get Tesla's crappy FSD working in a Lucid.

I'm much, much happier with Lucid's more conservative approach. YMMV.

Not all of us want that.

I'm a Tesla Model X (2022 Plaid) owner, and paid full price for FSD. I *rarely* get to actually use it on city streets, or in swiftly moving traffic on my daily highway 280 commute. The issue isn't really FSD (although I have had it try to kill me a few times) but, rather, other drivers. None of them seem to have the patience for my car coming to a full stop at stop signs on city streets. I've been honked at, and aggressively passed by folks practically driving on the sidewalk to get in front of me. And the highway isn't much better. For safety, the car leaves too much room between me and the car in front of me (even when on the closest setting), so cars always dart into that space, causing my car to brake -- sometimes abruptly. I've had the most success on long straight-ish road trips; Interstate 5 between San Francisco and Los Angeles, but overall, ironically, it's a feature meant to make driving less stressful, but it's all too frustrating, so I don't bother anymore.

Just took the Gravity for a test drive—really impressed. Smooth acceleration, responsive handling, and a super comfortable ride. The interior tech is intuitive, and the panoramic roof adds a nice touch. Definitely worth checking out if you're considering it. Anyone else had a similar experience?
