Radar detector location ?

Has anyone installed an Escort radar with ZW5 laser shifters? If so, any issues with installation and is location still an issue? My current vehicle has them and I plan to do the same with my GT, just need to find an expert installer in CA.
I'm sure @borski Guy could do it, if you are in the bay area

I am close enough to the Bay I thought I’d try calling his guy. Looks like they did a great job installing the Stinger unit for him. Wish I saw that before I purchased my Escort unit months ago.

I had major issues with my Escort Max CI 360 with their laser shifters that I had installed back in May. With no fault from the installation team, the GT LiDAR totally interferes with the ZW5 shifters causing constant false alarms. The installation team worked with Escort engineering team for several days trying many different recommended solutions to try and overcome the problem. After a week in the shop, the installation team decided to install the ALP Laser system in front along with the Escort Radar system for fun and it worked! No false positive alarms. For some reason the ALP system can filter out the EMI coming from the LiDAR system and the ZW5 cannot. My installer is in San Diego.

Sounds like loads of frustration, but great they found a solution. It looks like I’ll be ordering an ALP system and sell the ZW5, since I’m likely out of the return window.

I have a Escort 360 and read somewhere on here about detectors not seeing thru the glass in certain areas ? I already bought the USB to cig lighter adapter. Insight on where it can see thru the glass ?
I remember hearing the same thing early on with Tesla but never had a problem. I just mounted mine in the Lucid right in the middle of the windshield below the mirror. Fingers crossed.

I have an Escort Detector I will want to install in my ordered Air Touring. Has anyone hardwired and rearview mirror mounted a detector? Specifically, in the fuse panel behind the mirror?

Has anyone been able to get the trim off on the rear view mirror area? I tried but saw some stress changes developing where the plastic anchors were when I was trying to remove the trim and didn't want to break them, so I gave up. If anyone is able to remove that piece of the trim, please share.

Has anyone else who installed radar detector in lucid notice that always getting laser alert? I have the Escort 9500Ix radar detector and when I plugged it in, it constantly stays on laser and doesn't turn of? Not sure if any sensors in the car are setting it off or not? Anyone have any issues with this using Escort radar detectors? Thanks

The LiDAR sets the laser sensors off or so I believe. I turned the laser off.

That's odd. I have not had that issue with my Uniden. I can check with my escort as well to see if i get that warning.
Where is your detector mounted?

Turned my laser detection capability off on my Valentine. Too many false alarms. Also turned off K band as it is not hardly ever used in CA. Ka band works perfectly and I pick up HP consistently over a mile out.

Technically, LiDAR is a laser, right?

Yes, LiDAR is a laser...

I am using an Escort RedLine 360c (all bands enabled) and have had no problems with false alerts (and have confidence that it is also picking up the real stuff out there too).
Its mounted low & center on the windshield with power coming from a USB-A to 12v converter from Amazon.

njg-agt, Could you please post the url for the converter you bought off Amazon? Thank you

I installed a Radenso radar/laser detector in our first Air Dream and am scheduled to install the same system in our replacement Air (the first car having been totaled in a wreck). The system worked flawlessly with no interference from or with the car's lidar system. ADAS lidar and police lasers operate at different wavelengths, and neither interferes with the other.

Since the front bumper had to come off for the installation, I had to take the car to a Lucid Service Center afterward to have the lidar recalibrated. There were no problems in doing so, and removing the bumper for the installation did not affect the Lucid warranty.

As for windshields blocking radio signals, the early Lucids had a small untiinted window in the lower right corner of the windshield to allow detectors and toll transmitters to work. Our early car (Dream No. 154) had such a window, which was clearly visible from inside the car. The tinting was later changed so as not to require this window. Our replacement car (Dream No. 395) does not have the window. I suspect that remains the case with all subsequent production.
