Wonky Waze Activity

As I posted in the other thread about this, if you want temporary reprieve go into Waze > Settings > Map Display

Map view - Set to 3D only
Autozoom - Set to OFF

It stopped the bouncing around for me.

I am on 17.1.1 IOS and also V4.99 Waze App. Still having the problem with the pulsing.
I've been having the same problem with Waze via CarPlay (pulsing the zoom). However for me it has been intermittent. Running 17.1.1 on my iPhone and 2.1.33 on my AT.

Ok I did that and yes it did stop the pulsing. However, I'm not sure I am now getting the alerts for police, road hazards, etc.?? Haven't driven much with these settings so maybe the alerts are still there??

I still get the alerts with these settings, it shouldn't have any effect on that. The only feature missing is the map will no longer auto zoom in when you get close to your destination. (Or auto zoom out when you're on a long stretch of highway)

I tried this and it appears to have stopped the pulsing. I'm getting the notifications and alerts as before.

I actually get this zooming bug on both waze and google maps, both still occuring even after the 2.1.42 update

Out of curiosity, has anybody tried this with Apple maps to rule out Google messing something up?

I watched @LucidDropkick use Apple Maps and it didn’t zoom in/out at all. Very likely Google has an issue.

iPhone 15 Max - when the phone is in the car's wireless charger it has issues receiving the GPS signal and lags on Google Maps and freezes on Waze. If I remove the phone from the charger and place it on the arm rest, the navigation in both Google Maps and Waze work fine. Don't see this as a bug but just a shortcoming of the charger design and location of the phone. Would be interesting to know if other phone models/brands have the same issue.

You didn't mention if you are using CarPlay, but according to information in another thread, when using CarPlay, the car's GPS is used instead of the phone's – for exactly the reason you described. Based on your comment above, it seems you are not using CarPlay and running the apps directly on your iPhone?

I am using Carplay when this happens. I do not believe you are using the car GPS when using Carplay - it is just using the entertainment display as a remote touch screen monitor. The issue is the phone is in a location where it cannot receive the GPS signal. As soon as you move the phone up, Waze unfreezes and updates on the car display. If you are using Google Maps, they now work without a delay on the car screen. This also proves you are not using the car GPS when using Carplay.

Here is one of many links on the internet where this is discussed. In general, CarPlay will use the car's GPS antenna, but will revert to the iPhone's GPS antenna, if the car's GPS antenna does not work reliably:

Is that a selectable option?

The Internet also says that wireless carplay is supposed to use the car's GPS while wired carplay uses the phone's. This is not the case with my car. When on wireless carplay. Google maps and Waze do not have a reliable GPS connection but they should if they are using the car's GPS.

It’s not that wired CarPlay uses the phone’s GPS. It’s that wired CarPlay doesn’t require the manufacturer to use the car’s. I suspect Lucid is using the car for both. Since the car (under normal circumstances) will have the better signal.

GPS requires line of sight to the sky. Your phone can “fake” it indoors using WiFi triangulation, last known location, etc. But it’s nowhere near as accurate when you aren’t outside.

Today I learnt...

(no wonder find my is so inaccurate when inside a house)

Depending on the device, findMy could be using UWB, which is actually extremely accurate. Finding an AirTag, for instance. Or a newer iPhone.

But an older laptop? Yeah. You are relying on last reported location from a network best guess.

Thats what I thought, but when I tried to track my dad's iphone 13 with a 14 pro, it didnt seem exactly accurate. Then again, our phones were less than 15 feet apart(i was just testing it).

thanks... I'm trying this ... Waze has been unusable because of the zoom issue everyone has reported...
