Wind noise

I had this issue and did fairly detailed testing of it. My finding was that it was an issue with the manufacturing of the corners of the window seal. I have a 2022 GT. The corner elbow piece of gasket was fused to the vertical and horizontal pieces. When cold, the corner had a non uniform flexibility in the gasket due to the fusing, that created areas for cold air to seep through. If I turned down a road where the sun hit the gasket and it warmed up, the air leakage stopped. Both the driver’s side and passenger’s side windows leaked in the same spot.

Working with Scottsdale service, we went through the box of window seals to find one with the smoothest transitions in the corner piece where it fuses to the longer sections. This reduced the air leakage by maybe 90%. I documented my testing and sent it to customer service. They said they would forward to engineering and supply chain. Scottsdale service also reported it as an issue.

The last time I was at a service center I checked out a new Air and found the window gasket corners have been changed to eliminate the fusing of pieces. I thought to myself that somebody in lucid listened and fixed the issue.

So I would be interested in knowing if the 2024’s still have this issue.

Would you be able to provide a photo of the offending corner elbow piece you're referring to ?

My door seals were changed once, earlier this year in June. It seemed to have made a little difference. Now that the weather is turning cooler here in San Diego CA, especially in the chilly early morning hours, it’s becoming more prominent again, the wind noise that is.

By the time I schedule my car for its yearly service, it will be out for warranty. I’d be happy to pay for the replacement of the door seals for the second time, if it’s done with the new design, and if it actually fixes the problem.

Otherwise, I’m cranking up my “brand new”, post 2.5 update stereo!
Let’s compare cars sometime.

Be happy to, @Bobby. But I have to tell you, I got a loaner car back in February this year that had the same wind noise-thing going on.

I resigned myself to thinking that this must be normal.

It’s time for us to have a comparison test.

Please post pictures of the offending gasket. I have another service appointment at the end of the month and I'd love to ask them about it

My wife is passing winds all the time.
How do I record that?
(Don't ask me for pictures please).

Cold air hitting your head window gasket issue photo. Same issue both driver’s and passenger’s side window. Lower your window and look at the gasket while standing outside your vehicle. The elbow piece and the fused joints have an issue when cold. Also, on mine, not a smooth transition across the joint. The Service Tech hand picked a new gasket from several he had that had a smooth transition and the softest fuse (glue) joint. This new gasket eliminated 90% of my cold air leakage issues. If the gasket was warm either due to the outside temperature or the sun hitting the window, it never leaked air. This isn’t the wind noise issue, for that, I’m still hoping to find a solution. 2022 Air GT

Thank you. Can anyone with a 2025 Air post a picture of their window gasket ?

@Boomer AZ Is the problem caused by the transition to the fused corner not being flush, particularly when cold?

My opinion is. The gasket material is less flexible when cold. The glue at the joints is less flexible when cold. The joint is perpendicular to the glass. When cold, the joint compresses less than the gasket material thus creating a space for air to leak in on bothe sides of the joint. Any unevenness across the joint compounds the issue. I should say that when the Tech came to my house on a cold day, he first just changed the gasket and it’s still leaked air when we test drove it.. we came back to my garage and closely looked at and felt the cold gasket. We both could tell there was an issue with the gasket. That is when he went thru his box of replacement gaskets (seals) to find one that felt the best. He installed that one and we test drove it again. That mostly fixed the issue. If in a nice warm service garage, I don’t think we would have solved this.

Maybe have your SC call Scottsdale SC to discuss.

Thank you. Great idea. Also, you said that the gasket design had changed for the 2025 model, is there no join now?

I made a point of looking at one while at the SC a couple of months ago. I thought it looked like a new design without noticeable joints. Somebody else said their 2025 was no different. If I was you, I’d take my photo to the SC and look at a brand new one there. I will look through my archives and see if I can locate the report that was submitted to Lucid.

Has this been fixed for 2025?

Can you walk us thru with pictures what you did? I do have some air sound in back driverside door.
There could be a loose trim at the top of that door. Call service if you see it and they will come in and put some clips they have to keep it place. Helped my wind noise a lot.

I would not attempt what you did to make sure my warranty was not affected and they won’t say what I did created a worse issue.

Glad yours was fixed.
