Some odds and ends

Most deep cycle lead acid batteries are heavy with lead. I have been using AGMs in an off grid solar cabin in Colorado since 2007. I keep telling myself that if they ever die I will replace them with Li-Ion. They keep on working if well cared for. The only issue with lead acid is that they can phosphate is left partially charged for a long periods. Li-ion likes 50% charge, lead acid wants to be at 100% charge. Lead acid, also has a higher self-discharge rate than Li-ion. I don't see how either of these is an issue for the low voltage side of an EV car.
 
According to the C&D Technologies website, their deep-cycle series has the longest service life of any of their batteries for high-cycle operations -- 20 years.

Could be that lead acid are much less thermally sensitive, especially charging at low temperature. Really no need to manage the battery temperature.
 
VRLA batteries are used in the US Nuclear Submarine fleet. Have a much higher power density than Li-ion. I am sure Lucid looked at the available options and picked the battery that matched the load requirements. However, if you want to save weight a smaller lighter Li-Ion makes sense especially if you make your own Li-ion cells.

When they went to update software to the most current version (I was on 1.1.5) the car would not take the update. Determination was the main processor module needs replacement. They are driving one over from Phoenix. Just as glad it happened in the shop. Will be putting off driving to SC. The weather wasn't cooperating anyway. I will be interested if the new module boots any faster or if it is unrelated.

Dang, I wonder if I got stuck in the same boat. After the 1.1.62 update my media screens stopped loading on bootup. It took a second bootup for them to load, but no streaming worked and switching profiles didn't work. Car is currently in service for "debugging."
 
I kept getting software failed to load notices on the app while it was in service. I figured it was not a good sign. Did @hmp10 have processor replaced also?

I had the same failure on my "Module." The module (presumable a CPU module) was overheating when the update was being installed. It would stop at 75%. This happened at the Service Center too. Once they replaced the module, the updates went smoothly. I'm at 1.1.7 now, still waiting for the 1.1.8 update. But the car has been in my possession for about a week and all is fine. Can't say it loads much faster, although I think if it does load faster, it would be due to the new software. Still getting Bluetooth and audio glitches and Face Recognition as well as distracted driver does not seem to work. After the car was returned to me, the mobile service technicians came out and documented all these problems. They are now consulting with engineering to see what the next recourse may be. They did mention they may want the car back, especially since they may need to do the recall. There are so many software issues (maybe due to hardware?), that I have gotten tired of reporting them. Luckily, many of them were documented by the service techs, although, I really need to properly document them, so nothing falls through the cracks.

With them having the car for a bit, I'm going to try and view the car and all the systems with fresh eyes. Then document concerns from where they are now. Will be be a lot less than with 1.0.4. They are making progress. Unfortunately, I can no longer count my car as having only software issues. I have one of BMW's "Final 12 v12's" on order. The Lucid and that car side by side will be nice ICE/EV duo. The BMW won't build till June/July. Will be interesting to see how much use the Lucid gets once I have the choice.

It looks like a lot of the active DE owners on this forum have had some kind of major hardware replacement (screen, compute-module)? I'm not counting things like trunk latches or wiper arms as major replacements. Is it just luck that all the DE owners with issues are on this forum or this is much more widespread? Anyway, its disconcerting. Really maddening to not hear something from Lucid about this.

What would you expect them to say? It doesn't appear that the problems are overlapping unless I'm missing something. From what I remember of issues from DE owners, we all kind of have our own issues..lol

I expect Lucid will get a handle on all the serious issues that are reported by the owners. I don't think they have any other option available on a car at this price point. This is the period where Early adopters provide the opportunity Lucid needs to make the car right. The window of opportunity will close. I witnessed this with Fisker. Yes Yes I know ... I was one of the early Fisker owners. Car drove great but nothing else worked more than a few hours before it was time for another reset. The people on the forum were great. As I recall they Identified all the issues very early on. I am encouraged by Lucid's response time to all the issues I have raised. I even had a one on one interview over the phone with a Lucid rep where I was encouraged to "not hold back". SO as of this moment, and although I paid a large sum of money for a car I am not driving the car due to the pending recall, I feel the Lucid team is giving their all and I plan to stick around for a bit.

I haven't either, until the recall notice. But, then, I haven't shaken down my car like some of the other owners. So, thank you very much for all the insights.
 
No hardware Issues during the 2 month /1700 mile of ownership. Service coming over for the recall today. I am learning to live with some parts I would have designed differently but I am always doing that no matter what car I own.
