Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Grand Touring

Well, what do ya know! Finally got the call. Reserved silver Pure 12/21, confirmed silver AGT 3/9, DA called mid-Aug with an available white AGT, mojave, 19". Finances completed 8/25. Alex from Short Hills studio called and texted today. Car can be picked up 9/10 or later. I had been promised by my SA and previous DA that it would be delivered to my home, being 2+ hours away from the studio, but I am now being told they are "ramping up production and that is no longer possible". They will send a car. Not worth arguing and delaying the process further. Hoping for a fun 2hr. ride home with no issues (12V, turtles, etc)
Do I understand you that Lucid no longer is doing deliveries to homes; only to service centers?

For the tracker: VIN communicated today. DA indicated that the VIN is now being communicated near the end of the production cycle. Expected to be built and ready for shipment to GI in 2-3 weeks, with confirmed home delivery in MN.

In Florida did not have an issue. Will deliver to my PPF installer about 2.5 hours from Service Center. Delivery expected 9/19

It is a lovely day in Chicago and I took the convertible out for a ride.

I went past the Goose Island facility and saw that a carrier had just dropped off a load of cars.

The garage door was open at the facility and it looked pretty full of cars.

A couple of new ones were also sitting out front.

Had my car delivered to my home yesterday.
How far away are you from a Service Center though? I thought I read somewhere if you’re within a reasonable distance to a Service Center then at home delivery won’t happen or you have to pay for it.

I am 800 miles away or so from the Seattle service center. I did have to pay a delivery fee.

That was the story they gave me. They're sending a Lyft for the 2hr. drive there.

It likely relates to your distance from a service center. That would not be an option for us poor remote souls.

I was told by my DA they would provide a Lyft to the Denver Studio when the time came for me to pick up my car. So they can do studios as well as Service Centers, it seems. There's no service center anywhere near here yet.

I think home deliveries are a thing of the past, unless you are willing to pay extra. Makes sense. That had to be a super-drain on resources. Getting you a Lyft, vs. sending out a staff member to your home is the difference between that staff member doing one or maybe two deliveries a day vs. a dozen, potentially.

For the tracker: got the call+email with my VIN# today! Timeline/info:
Quantum Grey/Tahoe/19
Order: May 9, 2022
Confirmation: May 10, 2022
Finance email: Sep 6, 2022 <-- including this since I thought it was a good leading indicator of VIN similar to what others reported
VIN assignment: Sep 7, 2022

DA will follow up next week with any updates on delivery timeline. I'm in Austin and planned to get home delivery. He didn't mention any change but I'll ask when I talk to him again.

That is not true. They will not deliver to homes that are within 2 hrs of the service center and will provide transportation for you to the service center. They cannot expect someone in my position who is an 11 hr drive from the nearest service center to pick up the car and drive the 11 hrs back to my home with a new car than is prone to failure.

I disagree. Until Lucid develops an extensive network of Studios and Service Centers they will have to cover the costs of shipping to homes remotely located from the Service Centers. It would be a big marketing mistake expect buyers to pay a premium of $3000(2-way) for shipping just because Lucid didn't want to build a centrally located Service Center. Will Lucid expect buyers to pay for shipping to the Service Centers for major warranty repairs and routine service? The mobile service trucks will not be able to cover all the service needs.

How could that possibly scale to 30k+ deliveries per year?

They could take the Tesla approach. Screw around with picking your car up then it’s assigned to someone else and you get the next one. As production ramps up the Service Centers can’t become storage facilities while people fumble around to pick cars up. Get ‘em in, get ‘em out!

My QG/GT/19” has left the factory headed the whole way to Scottsdale. VIN on Aug. 19th.
If I'm not mistaken, weren't you extremely pissed off about the communication from Lucid?
