Ordering and Delivery: Lucid Air Grand Touring

Well, you were partially correct. I got the call today that my car was, indeed, at Riviera Beach and had passed all PDI as of last night. I guess they must be paying a premium to get people to work on a Holiday. They are preparing the paperwork for me and I should expect it "soon". Once they have that back and funds, it will then get scheduled for delivery, probably next week sometime. He doubts they can get it shipped from Riviera Beach to Charlotte by the end of the week, which I would be shocked if they could. Depending on when it gets delivered next week, it will be almost exactly 8 months since confirmation, 11 weeks since VIN.

The car's "unique journey" (from Confirmation to Delivery) has almost come to an end.

See! I was right. Communication is not their strong suit. Same thing happened to me. No call about leaving the factory and only when it had passed inspection. By doing that, they just delay the delivery as it takes ti e to get the funds in order. Lucid? Are you listening? A heads up by the DAs would be greatly appreciated and would alleviate bottlenecks at the service centers by making deliveries more efficient.

I guess you will be a little different than me since yours must have a home delivery from Florida to Charlotte. They will have to have the paperwork and money before loading it. For me, had to do the paperwork and they scheduled a delivery date. I will wire the funds the day before. Wasn’t going to pay before they scheduled a date for delivery.

Yes, the frunk was totally replaced. There was a gap issue (passenger side has larger gap at the nose than driver's side). Second is the passenger latch seems to not make full contact with the latch lock once the frunk is closed and the sensor show the frunk as opened. Both issues were noted and will be addressed by Lucid. Although not happy with what I found, the car is under warranty.s
 
How did you know it was heavily damaged? Did they inform you beforehand?
My previous DA told me, my current DA acknowledged it and the FA that delivered by car seemed to be fully aware of it and was the one that told me the frunk had to be replaced.

Only reason would be to give some time to arrange financing and not have that be a gating issue to delivery once it is ready. I am not financing, so I am fine with how it has unfolded in this regard.

On the other hand, if something comes up in PDI that might cause the financing window not to be met, that might complicate things. They are not saying "your car is ready and must be picked up in X days" so it really isn't like they are rushing things. Again, not the case in my situation.

Now, they have told me the car is ready, sent me docs (which have been executed) and asked for payment (which is being set up to go out tomorrow), so if delivery isn't set up soon, I might have an issue, but that is not the case...yet.

It only matters for me having the funds ready and for Lucid to streamline deliveries. I could have picked it up over a week earlier if they communicated more. Now it is just taking up space at Costa Mesa and I would think they would like to have tha5 space free to get more cars from the factory. It’s fine if they want to keep it there. I don’t have trips planned so really not in a hurry to get it at this time.

OMG, I hit "post reply" only to open my email and what do I find but a VIN assignment. Order confirm March 29, 2022. VIN assigned July 5, 2022. (White/Mojave/21s)

It's a tricky point, though. What if something had been discovered during PDI? And it was major? That could screw up your finances as well. So they'd need to say something to the effect of "Hey, it left the factory, but it has not been inspected yet, so kinda get your finances ready, but don't, because we may run into a final issue and you'll be screwed."

There are too many unknowns until that final inspection is complete. I agree just seeing progress is good, so whenever the car leaves the factory, sure. Tell the customer. But I'd leave in a caveat that the "journey" isn't over, so don't set your sights on delivery just yet.

And then, of course, never try to rush the customer into payment when PDI is completed. Give them at least a good 30 days to get their house in order.

It's 7 days per the purchase agreement, at which time they can pull a Tesla and give it to someone else:

"You agree to take delivery of your Vehicle within seven (7) calendar days of Lucid's written notice to you that your Vehicle has been delivered to the Delivery Point ("Delivery Window")"

Anyways... not to belabor it, but more communication is better than no communication. That is all.
 
Here is a recent video from yesterday

So there 5 cars there which can be delivered? That is a lot of cars for a studio to have in their possession. It is still just a studio, correct? The service center is not scheduled to open until later this year.
