Lucid Charging 2/5/25 Required Action!

I have free charging beyond 2/5/25, and I am waiting for clarification before I activate this upgrade. At first, I read the 'premium features' mentioned in the thank you note to be the free charging, but I think it is a generic message that has gone out to people who purchased something like SSP or DDP after a trial period, as I think was the case with the early (fully equipped) models. I'm sticking with @mcr16's instructions until she says something other than what I was specifically told to do in my email.

I'm not saying that the wheels will fall off the cart if you activate. I'm just saying I don't know that you have to do this if you are on free charging past 2/5/25.
Bob, I’m taking your approach too. I’ve got another 18 months of free charging. There’s no rush and I’m sure there will be clarification by 2/5. Strange that Lucid made something that should have been so easy, so murky.

You are certainly right about that! My guess is that certain changes made with credit card processing enabled two different process changes and enhancements to be launched at the same time, and they got convoluted. It also didn't help that communications on the forum got quickly split over multiple threads, which made it easy to miss something. What I am primarily relying on is the following reply post last Wednesday by @mcr16 on the EA Megathread...

****************

So does it mean that if I do NOT have a credit card on file in my Lucid Wallet online by 2/5/25, Lucid will cancel my complimentary charging even though it’s not supposed to expire til 12/2026?

@mcr16 :

It will not be canceled, but you won't be able to use the complimentary charging until you enter a credit card into Lucid Wallet.

*****************

I interpreted that to pretty clearly say that, for those of us with free charging beyond 2/5/25, there is no requirement to activate the upgrade, but I'm emphatically suggesting that Lucid sends out a single memo that clarifies all of the situations/permutations.

Given my understanding that only a fraction of Lucid owners read the forum, an e'mail blast should be the way to get the word out.

I added the lucid charging base plan, from the website dashboard. Thanks for the info.

I've tempered my initial excitement a little after reading the description of the lucid charging base plan, it seems to be saying that it enables the "plug and charge" feature at places like EA, but one still pays for charging (presumably charging fees will be billed to the card lucid has on file).

The lucid charging base plan also let's you charge at EA without incurring monthly fees. Not sure if they're alluding to the $7/mo pass+ EA subscription.

My free charging ends 2/5/25. I know for sure if the free charging remains available with this "upgrade" or not pretty soon.

When I bought the car in April 2024, I knew the free checking promotion had ended (per sales rep), and lucid provided credit towards purchase of a home charger. I've had 9-10 months of free charging, I'm happy about that.

I mainly charge at home (home has solar panels), and one of my work locations offers free charging (charge point), my charging costs are minimal overall.

Hi all, I know a lot has been posted in other spots about the recent communication from Lucid about changes to charging fees / idle fees on 2/5/25.

I THOUGHT I was fine and did not need to do anything as I already went online and verified that I had a valid credit card in my Lucid Wallet.

Please set aside all of the back and forth and emotion and do yourself a favor. Go to the mobile app and select “Vehicle Info,” then select “Upgrades.”

This morning just for shits and giggles I did the above and noticed that the Lucid Basic Charging Plan was listed as an “available upgrade” with a $0 cost (I have free charging for 23 more months).

I selected it and was required to add a credit card for payment (even though I already have the very same credit card I in my Lucid Wallet). Perhaps two parts of Lucid’s customer database are not properly linked?

Whatever the cause, just do yourself a favor and take this step. After so doing I again am showing “no available upgrades.”

I’d hate for someone to lose their free charging 2/5/25 because they failed to enter their credit card information in this manner. Again, please save the complaining, moaning and frustration for the already lengthy threads on this topic. I’m just trying to help folks take a step they may not have realized they needed to take.

Cheers. Enjoy the journey.
Done, Thanks

I did this but for me, Electrify America availability is so poor it's hardly worth the time to put in the credit card number.

Yup it's official. Free charging was great when it lasted lol. 10 months of free charging, I'll take it :)

I just followed your instructions. My Apple Card shows a $1 charge but that may just be a "placeholder"??
I also got a $1 charge on my Apple Card. Then o went back to upgrades the next day. It still showed I needed to upgrade. So, I did it again.

Got another $1 charge. LOL.

I did read someone about 72 hours. I’ll wait three days now and hope the upgrade disappears then.

EA always shows the cost. You’ll have to check the Lucid app and your card, and that’s assuming you didn’t use the EA app.

Just did my first EA charge after the 2/5/25 process changes. I still have months remaining on my free charging, and as requested by Lucid, I verified that I had a credit card on my Lucid account. I did not activate the Lucid Charging - Base Plan upgrade. My free charging went through exactly as expected. The only difference is that a pending $50 'Lucid Inc EV Charging' transaction posted on the card I have on file with Lucid. As others have said, this is no doubt just a pre-authorization charge, just like what happens when I gas up my ICE cars, so since I incurred no idle fees, it'll no doubt just disappear in a few days. All's well!

Blue,

I just read your eye opening information above. Sure enough, I see the same "available" upgrade. I too still have free charging 11/2025. I'm not sure if we should take the same steps. Can you explain more about this to me? We just had a issue yesterday where as we could not authenticate with Electrafy America. I called LUCID and they told me we needed to enter a credit care on our portal online. I did that and then the next time I tried to charge, it authenticated but immediately charged my credit card $50. I"m told this will go away in 3 days. I'm a little confused on what to do.. Any help would be great.

We are also trying to get clarifiation before activating this upgrade as we have free charging up to November 2025

Do what I prescribed. That $50 is just an authentication and will not be charged if u still have free charging. Add your credit card by “buying” the $0 upgrade through the App.

Previously for me the EA station's display screen always showed $0.00 during the entire charging session (when I had free charging). Yeah I no longer have it, my card was charged, and the charging receipt from lucid also shows a charge (previously it showed $0.00).

Fortunately I do >90% of my charging either at home (minimal cost courtesy of solar panels) or at work (free chargepoint charging there). Going forward I'll pay for charging when I do road trips, free charging was nice while it lasted.

wow, glad I looked at the post... just went to the app and fixed it... had to pay for my last EA charge, and customer care has not responded to my request to understand why it happened... bummer.

I don’t see how doing what I explained above can possibly hurt. It’s a $0 charge “upgrade.” I too have free charging (until 12/14/26) and that still shows correctly in the App after taking the steps above. I believe the risk weighs more heavily on the side of doing nothing as you propose as opposed to taking the steps above.

BTW, per the email, you DO have to have a valid credit card on file by 2/5/25, so if the system does not “see” your credit card on file by that date, it may delete your access to free charging. THAT is why I think taking the steps above makes sense.
I never received any message to activate/ upgrade before my free charging expires, which happened a few days ago. Should i still upgrade and it should be free? the process is not very elaborative, it doesn't show you the cost of upgrading even if it's free, instead takes you directly to the payment method, which is tricky, not knowing what it's might charge you other than that $1 fee. So every time i tried i just stopped at the step.

Whatever you bought in your original contact will remain. You are only putting a credit card in there for idle fees. You can look on your app to see when your free charging plan terminates.

Thanks for the response, my free charging ended a few days ago.

I added a card to the wallet a week ago. Now I just do the "Upgrade" and added payment again. Hopefully doesn't mess up my remaining free charging.
