How??? 3.3 is the average I get, even with 20" wheels. 4 m/kwh would be a dream. 5 - ??? How??
 
Hi - somewhat mea culpa- drove the 55 mph speed limit today on the Merritt Parkway like a grandma on Highway Assist and achieved 4.1 miles per KWH going to work from Darien CT to Milford CT (30 miles) which has never happened. So apparently it can happen. But I will say I may as well have had my hazard lights on - I was by far the slowest car on the road. Tomorrow I will try 'normal' driving - 65 -70 mph, not 55mph and report back.
When I grew up in Connecticut in the 1950s there was a minimum and maximum speed limit on the Merit/Wilbur Cross Parkway. Believe it or not...state cops actually enforced the minimum limit as well! But back then, cars were not very solidly built and would probably fall apart if driven at current speeds. My used Mercedes Benz 190D had an "official" 0-60 time of 26 seconds (purchased with 240K miles on it).

BTW...I do recall that Rosalind Russell was not very fond of your town! 😁

It's not the wheel size, it's more the tire type that is on them. 20" wheels carry sticky summer tires. My lifetime avg is 3.6 on 19" wheels with efficient, but not very grippy, tires. Much of that is at 75mph on long trips.
 
Electrek thinks it's the RWD Pure too. As a prospective owner (who got nervous about the tax rebate and ended up going EV6 last time) this is definitely increasing my interest in the upcoming midsized car!

Hope the Gravity launch goes well so Lucid can focus R&D on the third car

 
It's a product called "Driving at the speed limit" which gets you 4 mi/kwh. Try it someday, its free!
I just drove 145 miles at 65-70 in my Touring on 21's and averaged 3.9 mi/kwh. I was geeked! 😂 😂

There is a mode I wish Lucid could/would implement. It is akin to the "Conserve" mode on my R1S. My R1S is quad moto AWD. In conserve mode, it becomes FWD only. In doing so, range is improved by ~20-25miles or about 7%. On my long highway drive, I always use conserve mode. There is plenty of power already in FWD only and the extended range is more what I wanted.

I wonder if Lucid can implement "Conserve" mode on their AWD variants.

There’s been no confirmation of what vehicle achieved a certified 5 mi/kWh, just an assumption.
Smooth is already mostly if not all FWD. I think Swift is as well.

The only thing I manage to do while on long trips is to try and drive at 70mph...I just cannot and somehow end up at 85 or 90mph..not sure how that happens..impatience or a better charging network...with those speeds I am currently getting 3.4 on 20" wheels on a Touring. Wanted to share cos everyone seems to try and get good range..but there have got to be those like me who cannot drive slow and instead trade less time on the road with lower efficiency. I'm still happy with a 3.4 given I make zero attempts to get a larger efficiency number...

I also regularly use conserve mode on the highway, and it doesn't chew through tires. The forces of stopping and accelerating primarily wear tires in a vehicle with 900ftlb torque. When traveling at a constant speed, such as on the highway, there is very little of that force going on. A few people on the Rivian forum have complained about premature tire wear using conserve. Still, after further investigation, they all used it as a daily driver mode.

Yes, I am aware of the potential increase in front-tire wear with FWD. Unlike other EV manufacturers who do not always advise their customers of potential negative impacts, Rivian was forthcoming in alerting their customers of the tradeoffs.

For me, using the "Conserve" mode is mostly for highway driving to maximize the range. While I do expect some additional front tire wear, I think (hope) with proper tire rotation, the impact is not going to be significant. Since there is much less braking on highway drive, I hope additional front tire wear will not be significant. I will find out. But most importantly, I was informed about the tradeoffs with the "Conserve" mode by Rivian. They did not try to hoot-wink me.

While Rivian is not perfect, I have a lot more confidence in their guidance. For example, on Rivian OTA updates, they often detail what is being updated and the impact. In terms of achievable range and EPA, Rivian also use the 2 cycle test. But Rivian consistently meet and exceed their efficiency rating. They don't exaggerate!

Seriously. This will not be tolerated.

The thread is about Lucid announcing they managed 5 mi/kWh on the RWD Pure. There honestly isn't much else to discuss until someone independently confirms this claim, but let's keep the thread to that topic.
