Nice outfit btw, lol.

Almost 2 minutes without actually mentioning or discussing Jaguar cars (they do still make cars, right?). Stunning. Manufacturing excellence no longer matters and it will reflect in their cars...again, if they still make those. Just as an aside, in the many EVs I've owned, only one left me stranded in need of a tow...you guessed it, my Jaguar i-Pace.

The message is clearly "Jaguar is about to utterly change the brand, but we don't have a car yet to show you." Which is a hard message to convey without making a sort of wacko ad, I suppose.

And that was 2009!

As odd as it seems, I’m actually not against it. They’re taking a radical new approach. It doesn’t make *me* want to buy a new Jaguar, but I’m not sure it was supposed to. I am very curious to see their future EVs, but that isn’t the point of this. If they’re great, they’re great; the cars will speak for themselves.

This may, however, appeal to a whole new generation of car buyers who are just coming of age. I have no idea.

We’re all about to find out together over the next few years though, and I personally find that exciting.

Just as I’m excited for Lucid doing new things in the tech of EVs, I’m excited to see people doing new things in marketing cars too; some won’t work. But some will.

And I bet most of our predictions will be wrong.

No one knows what the car looks like or it's features. I couldn't care less about the advertisement campaign. The car could be a bloated overstyled barge for all I know or the best sedan on the market. We'll see in the next year. I'll let the car speak for itself.

Jaguar certainly has a reputation as being a car for old men. That's just the perception of the brand, particularly in England. There's a reason Bond drives an Aston and not a Jaguar.

If this is part of a greater effort to lower the average buying age for Jaguar, good for them. Their long-term survival depends on it.

IMO, absolutely not! Not only will non-car people hate it, this is the exact sort of thing that would get endlessly teased at my school, like it or not. It does remain to be seen what they think of it after they mature a bit, though. Also, as they are apparently targeting Bentley, I feel that the opinions of 40-60 year olds should be targeted, not new car buyers coming of age.

I actually loved the XF and still think the XJ is one of the best examples of a old design aging well, but this ad doesn’t give me much confidence they can recreate that.

I think it's fair to say you are the exception to the rule in your age group, no? You are a self-described car nut. This ad is defnitely not looking to target that in any way, shape, or form.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new line of Jaguar EVs are more family-friendly vehicles. Not necessarily luxury sports cars. But we'll have to wait and see.

Dodge used to have this great TV commercial when they went all out with the 440 cid + three deuces (6-pack).

It was a bleak and barren drag strip with two technicians in white lab coats. They moved to the sides of the hood and pulled four quick pins and lifted the hood completely off the car, showing the monstrous 440 cid engine and the three two-barrel carburetors.
Then they put the hood back on and showed the 1/4 mile elapsed time. Right from the showroom. "Go on down to your Dodge dealer and pick up a six-pack today!"

These big block V8 sounds ... you could hear from blocks away and know who's car it was.
It used to be a thing that Maserati made shit cars with beautiful exhaust notes.

For a storied brand whose story included so many chapters on the chronic problems of Lucas electrical and electronic components, it'll be interesting to see how Jaguar's electric powertrains work out.

I've owned two Jaguars and made two cross country trips in them.

Two most memorable days were crossing into South Dakota when the outside temperature was -9F setting the cruise control at 95 and exiting the state a couple of hours later when the temperature had dropped to -15F (averaging 25 mpg).

Return trip, driving a 2-lane state road along side Glacier National Park before sunrise. I was passing the snowplows. Later as the storm ended I saw the sunrise through the blowing snow of the Montana plains. Made it to Grand Forks (1,100 mile) before stopping for the night.

They may not be reliable but the car was 15 years old and had 110,000 mile on it when it made that trip.

Can anyone define wokeness? No, because even Musk doesn’t know what it means. It’s just a term given to things about left wing progressiveness that one doesn’t like. But just because one doesn’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Inclusiveness was probably what Jaguar was aiming for.

It did get a lot of traction. Now, if one gets offended a decides not to by their EV’s, that’s on you. Jaguar got the attention it was seeking.

It was not one of the mods, it was all of us. We removed several posts that were either too political or insensitive. The thread title was changed because the thread is really about Jaguar rebranding and is not about Budweiser.
