Gravity Bugs / Issues

. . . if you pressed what is basically an analog switch for the reading light and that also turned on ambient lighting which is controlled by software, it almost sounds to me like a wiring gremlin somewhere that has too high resistance, but opening the circuit by pressing the overhead lamp switch overcame the resistance and then the lights were able to be controlled like normal. I don’t think mobile service can solve your issues, they need to take your car apart.

I didn't press the analog switch for the lights in the rearview mirror mounting module. It was the Quick Control button on the Pilot Screen for "Reading Lights" that turns lights on throughout the cabin.

We've had so many incidents of software-based features turning on and off spontaneously that I'm praying their fixes will ultimately lie in the software. The thought of having to take the car apart makes my blood run cold, partly because I fear you may be right the way things are going. Apparently I'm already in for having the dash pulled out to replace the HUD unit, and there's still no word on whether the ACU is going to have to come out to address the navigation system problems or whether the second row seats will have to be replaced to deal with the noise there.

I'm sort of braced for the long haul we had with getting the early-production Air Dream sorted out into the fine car it now is, but I'm certainly in no hurry for the second Gravity Dream to get here with this many problems. As slow as the production ramp has been, I think it's still been too hurried.

Uh, oh. Forgot about that. 🫨
I commute on Los Angeles freeways using the HOV lanes in the early hours on my way into the office. My Gravity DE is rock solid going 85-95 mph in the narrow HOV lane while feeling like I'm driving 55 mph. There's a section of freeway (often used for making movies) where the traffic disappears and I have four lanes to myself and plenty of freeway front and back. I hit 110 mph there last week and the Gravity just got better. Hardly noticed the speed but the section is straight so I cannot comment on the handling at speed other than the acceleration is insane from 80-110!

I've had a lot of really powerful cars over the years, but never one in which speed is so imperceptible. The combination of how quickly it comes on, how composed and quiet the car is, and how high you're sitting almost eradicates all the signals that cause us to register extreme speed. I'm hoping that my senses will adjust to recognize speed more readily in the Gravity. But meanwhile, you really, really have to watch yourself in this car.

The absolute effortless power this vehicle has is nuts. No other EV is as smooth about it as this. It can be brutal if you really want it to be, but even in Smooth mode, it accelerates so easily and smoothly that it is insanely easy to get into "go directly to jail" speeds and not realize it at all.

Ah I misunderstood, yeah more likely something wrong with software control.

Has anyone had an issue with Frunk not opening with first button press on dashboard? It tries to open, moves up like half an inch and then closes again. Second press opens it.

I’ve that had happen a fair amount in the Air. That’s annoying if Gravity is prone to this as well.

At least the ghost is there in only some light conditions. The blue oval never disappears, no matter lighting conditions, no matter whether the HUD is on or off, no matter whether I'm wearing polarized or non-polarized sunglasses or none at all.

I have to think it's due to a defect in our HUD. I simply can't believe Lucid would not have noticed and dealt with this during development of the HUD feature if it were present in all units.
Okay, I have seen the light

We have no ghost, because we don’t have a defect in ours. But I have figured out when this blue oval thing happens, for us - it only exists in certain lighting conditions (yesterday around 5pm) and the reason I never see it is… my seating position is as low in the Gravity as it can get.

Because I’m so used to low cars, I don’t like riding up high feeling like I’m driving an 18-wheeler, so I always have my seating position set as low in the car as it can go, usually, for my own comfort.

But if I raise my seat? Boom, blue oval reflection at certain times of day.

So for those who have this… try lowering your seat? I’m not suggesting it’s a permanent fix, but that’s why I haven’t seen it. I have no desire to raise my seat now that I have seen it, though. :)

I have the blue oval sometimes...but I definitely only see it when I'm at a certain low height in the seat...If I slouch down, it will creep up from the bottom right corner. I'm sure the blue oval is just a feature implemented to improve my posture!
Wow, fascinating. I exclusively see it if I’m at a *high* height, and it shows up at the top center.

I haven’t seen this on either Gravity fwiw, but have in the Air

Yep. Every time. Lucid service is coming this afternoon to address mine

Not the frunk, however I’ve experienced the trunk attempting to open and then failing. Upon attempting again, it opens successfully. Yesterday, while examining the latching mechanism, I noticed that it appears to be rubbing and scoring the latch. I wonder if a similar issue is occurring with your frunk. Perhaps it requires a minor adjustment? I’ll add this to my list of things to look into. Additionally, I’ve noticed that the second-row squeaks are progressively growing louder. Interestingly, when my wife sat behind me while I was driving, the squeaks largely subsided. Has anyone noticed what the technicians did to reduce or eliminate these second-row squeaks or noises? I’ve given up on charging my phone with the charging pad - too many charging error messages which are annoying.

I had been wondering how it was possible that the test driver at the Lucid factory failed to notice this as we were seeing it in all light conditions as soon as we got it, although to a less extreme extent. It's part of the reason I'm now thinking this might be the evolving result of continued exposure to heat and sunlight over time. (The car was transported from Arizona to south Florida in summer and, although it's kept in a garage, it gets a lot of heat exposure when the car's in use.)

If this is a one-off problem with our car, the replacement of our unit will be the end of it. If this screen material is not stable in such conditions, though, it could become a growing problem for Lucid if they don't get to the bottom of it before more Gravities with HUD units go into production.
Your HUD glass is transforming into a prism - evolving!
